We had a Simmons World Class and the foam started sagging in 9 months.  Latex is better and won't sag.

Thank you Lynn,

that's a great suggestion. I've been reading the Topper threads here and I think your suggestion is already answering my next question about I have about toppers.....Do I buy 2 twins or one big king?

I'm looking at the SLAB.com site because of other's recommendations.

We also are in need of a frame.....Hopefully I can pick one up off the shelf at JC Penny or another local store?

Thanks

I would buy 2 twins since you and your wife may have different requirements for comfort.  They are also easier to move around and return if necessary.  I know it is probably a little more expensive, but it allows more flexibility.  You can even experiment...

I don't know if this is exactly the right place to post this -- but I have chronic pain and with that a hypersensitivity in my back so that a wrinkle feels like a knife sticking into me. So I have terrible problems with mattresses. I tried the tempurpedic and hated it because it was too hard and very hard to get out of and created too much heat. it doesn't seem to matter whether the bed is expensive or not because I found a bed in my parent's home before we sold it, that was a very inexpensive Simmons beautyrest but when I laid down on it was absolutely perfect for me. The material on the top was very silky and it was a very small pillow top that didn't bother me by digging into me. However, it being an inner spring mattress, it compressed after three years and...

hello,.. im amazed on how some people (like my wife and i) and you have the same prob with latex, my wife and spent alot of money on a top of the line latex bed and ended up trying different latex toppers to try and get the (why am i not sleeping) problem resolved. we tried putting 21ild 19ild and even 14 ild latex and we were still having prob trying to get a full night sleep i think some people just have to either get used to it or to use latex as a foundation or support for the matress than add other toppers to it to get the right feel.

we have tried everything that we could try even wool toppers and seems for us .. that we have ended up using 10 inches of firm latex and then 1 inch latex  pieces of 21 or...

My mattress is an innerspring Simmons Beautyrest Ridgewood Firm (and it's pretty firm!)..I talked to a  rep at Sleep like a bear and told her of my sleeping habits (stomach sleeper, sometimes side, etc) and she recommended the 24 ILD which is plush/soft but not the most plush one, or perhaps the 19 as well.

How to buy a mattress set - jp4120
Feb 19, 2011 3:22 AM
Buying a mattress set is usually a hassle but I think I have the best way to save money and avoid being overcharged.

Remember mattress sales people are all bullshi**ers and will make up any story they can as they try to be 'folksy' and sell you something overpriced.

I have recently used this method,

go into sleepys or equivalent alone and ask for moderate priced queen bed sets until you find one you like.

You need to write down firmness level and coil count. The names are different for each retailer so consumers cannot easily comparison shop.

IE, Simmons same mattress has a name at sleepys, a different name at Macys, a different name at mattress giant, etc.

After saying I would be back with my wife I went online.

These are all Presidents day...

Re: What is the softest mattress (or topper) available? - cooknwoman

I came across this searching on Google to find a mattress that is soft - very soft - pillow soft! I have Fibromyalgia, since I was 20 - I am not 55 and since an almost deadly accident I have had 5 spinal surgeries (2 cervical (neck) and 2 lumbar (back)

I live in constant debilitating pain - over all pain - it feels like it penetrates into my tissues and muscles and also my skin hurts. I could go into much more detail to describe why I need a mattress that is super soft but really bottom line is that it is crucial that I find something that will work!

My husband has had 5 low back surgeries refusing his lower spine because he was born with...

Restless Leg Syndrome and choosing a mattress, bonus question about the longevity of latex - lightsleeper
Mar 2, 2011 3:18 AM
Okay, I've been doing TONS of research and I think I'm only getting more confused.  I purchased my Simmons ultraplush-super-duper-soft worldclass mattress 7.5 years ago.  It was a love affair for the first 4 years.  I was obsessed with going to bed.  But the honeymoon ended with a thud.

After about 3 years, I developed Restless Leg Syndrome (at least that's what we "think" it is) and some other neurological symptoms.  I eventually could not sleep more than 2 hours/night.  I wake up after 2 hours with my legs feeling very warm and feeling like I just can't lay still.  I might be able to fall asleep again after 3-4 hours of this.  Aside from that I started having nerve tingling in my legs.  I take Gabapentin at bedtime which lets me get 7 hours of sleep on most nights.   Now I'm not saying...

Latex and Pillow Tops - esil19
Mar 23, 2011 4:37 PM
I am interested in getting the Simmons World Class Elderberry Pillow Top bed from Macys. I have two concerns: The mattress under the pillow top also has coils and comes either in the visco foam or the latex. Although the latex sounds like a better way to go over visco foam, I am not sure if I will like it for I was not able to try it out. I liked the feel of the floor sample which is the visco foam, and I understand the latex is a more firm mattress - being that it is underneath the pillow top (which is made with a synthetic polyester jersey knit) would I feel a difference between the two, and might it be too firm? And I also wonder if the heating aspect of the latex would be an issue or not, being that it is underneath the pillow top?

Looking for an inexpensive replacement mattress - 77Pat
Mar 26, 2011 3:39 PM
I am starting my search for a new mattress.  My current mattress is around 10 years old (Simmons Back Care Entre) and I am starting to feel the springs when I sleep.  I have flipped and rotated the mattress and still feel them.

I do not know how long I plan to keep this mattress since right now I am living with my parents, but depending on job situation might move out in a year.  When I move I plan to invest in a more expensive mattress (Sleepez/Flobed/maybe Carpe Diem, Vi Spring, or Hastens) and the mattress I buy now would be for when I visit.

I weigh around 150 pounds and usually sleep on my stomach or side.  I just want to get something that will help me get better quality sleep.

Right now I am mainly looking at:
