Re: Simmons Comforpedic vs. Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme vs. KIngsdown 600 - mrbutler

I slept on a Tempurpedic before and it is very hot.  If you are looking for memory foam make sure it has open cells.  Many options for a lot less than temperpedic.  i can't share anything on the other two.  Good luck and read all you can before you make a choice.

After much deliberation, I have decided to go with one of the mattresses that I originally looked at - the Sleep Number.  I am getting the p5 in a kingsize.  After one of my close friends who swears by this mattress suggested I go to their store, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the comfort and liked the flexibility.  As I read reviews on how various beds that I have been looking at have sagging and/or heat issues, the Sleep Number bed should not sag as long as there is not a mechanical failure - which if it does occur is covered by warranty and the individual parts can be replaced.  By staying away from a memory foam bed I think I will avoid the heat issue.  I am also going to put an Outlast mattress pad on the bed to further help insure that there are no temperature issues....
New to mattress shopping - know what I like - I would love your help!!!! - idlovehelp

Hi!!

I am so happy to find this forum. I'm new to mattress shopping and visited 3 stores recently (two sleepys). Learned I like individual coils, so the bed doesn't sink when someone sleeps next to me. I have a herniated disc, sciatica for long and recently neck troubles - yikes! so I like a firm bed. But, I do like something cushiony too. :) I'm 5' 3'', less than 120lbs, young. And my friend, he's twice my weight and tall. OK... I started with kingcoil in the $400s, and after many mattresses they showed me stearns and fosters with cushion top the firm side - which I liked best, and then kingsdown 400 red which I liked even better. I do have a budget but also want to get the perfect bed since it is an important purchase :)

At the next store, they converted my thinking...

Hi..I do have some questions for you. In the spring I bought a mattress for the first time in nearly 18 years and didn't know how much things had changed. The salesmen tried to steer me towards Kingsdown. I had never heard of it so decided on a different brand in a high end pillow top. Had to return that when it started sagging within 5 or 6 weeks. This store (which sells beds only) had nothing softer than "Firm" in a non-pillowtop. So I ended up with the Kingsdown anyway and was overcharged for the mattress only since I kept the original pillowtop boxspring. It was still too firm for me but less hard than other brands. I was very disappointed in the whole process.

Anyway, the good folks here gave me the info to make my bed comfortable through the use of toppers and now, thanks to...

Welcome to the sisterhood!  I too have done some surgeries. After the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on (Kingsdown) started to flatten after about 5 years, and with no chance of activating the ten year warranty, I started out with simple, let's call them, exploratory surgeries. Those led to some major 'transplants' . I learned a lot about mattress construction.

Several years and beds later, I am of the notion that all pillowtops/pads (the part that keeps you from contacting the springs) should be designed to be removeable.  Using zippers, buttons, the price tag like plastic 'stays', whatever means needed. Not only does this make your bedding at least dry cleanable, but there is a huge green element to this if people aren't discarding mattresses because the pillowtops have prematurely worn out.

In the end, if you purchase a moderately decent mattress, the springs will last for the manufacturer's warranty period or...

I have been lurking aroudn this fourm and other sites for a few weeks now.  My wife and i have decided to repalce our 14 year old mattress and i was unsure wich direction to go in.  Originally we wer egoing to go with a spring mattress as it's what we knew.  After reading a lot of reviews from various sites  I went out the other day and tried out some really nice ones from Rosedale-simmons, kingsdown, icomfort and tempurpedic.  I came home and of course googled the mattresses and everyone said the same thing about the spring brands.  They start out great, but in a year the pillow top is gone and your stuck with a uncomfortable mattress.  THe Icomfort seemed to start off well, but i saw a lot of people who said that it wore down fast and the y eere left with dips and a uneven...

DoreenA,

Sorry I did not reply sooner.  I haven't logged in for a couple of days.  Kingsdown is a 110 year old company that is based in North Carolina.  They did have models that were still hand tufted and handcrfted, but honestly I was at their showroom during the recent World Market in Las Vegas and did not recognize anyone and did not see any models that were handcrafted or tufted.  Tehy seemed very much liek the "4 S's".  They were actual know for their soft plush models and had some of the plushest on the market.  They also had in their top tier, a lifetime warranty.  But honestly that waranty allowed for up to a 2" impression.  that was due to the plushness of their beds.  But those were at least 2 sided.  In response to your model, I m not familiar with it.  But from what...

I am currently in the specialty mattress industry in a retail capacity.  I have experience with latex, Tempur-pedic, Aireloom, Kingsdown, Carpe Diem, Vi-Spring, natural and organic mattresses.  By the previous listings, you would correctly surmise that I have been mainly focused with premium lines.  However, I am very familiar many of the more affordable options, such as Flo-Beds.  If anyone has specific questions that they would like ask me, I welcome them.  I have a reputation for honesty and integrity.  I do apologize to those that have felt that they have not always experienced that in those they have encountered in my industry.

After looking at the website, I see that I've fail to miss this: "44 oz Hollo & Silk Fibres are quilted to two layers of solid high density foam" I'm going to assume this is actually poly foam? And this is actually the top layer in this mattress isn't it..

First off, I'd like to say I'm soooo grateful that I've found this forum when I did. I've been reading through, and its been very informative and I've learned a lot!!

My boyfriend and I have been mattress shopping for a good week and a half.. The whole proccess has been daunting and at first very confusing! We decided we better do some research before just jumping right into it.(although we did actually buy a bed right there and then that first day, but had second thoughts the next day so we went to cancel it, and I'm glad we did!!) We almost bought a simmons beautyrest world class, but through research its led me to believe that the coils in these beds now a days aren't as durable as they once were.(?) Through further research, we've learned that the pillowtops are also, and mainly, the cause for...
