Thanks for all of your comments. It is true that a matress like Vi Spring(or Hastens, etc) will perform a bit differently than most people are used to. A nice gentleman at Vi Spring told me that this mattress has over 3 feet of filling that is compressed into this mattress. Of course there will be a settling period. I have 90 days to decide if I'd rather have a firm. My wife's side is a firm and it is quite firm. But Vi Spring does make a fantastic topper that would help a lot. I flipped my mattress over last night and the other side is just about the same. A very soft mattress. But I slept well last night and have very little pain this morning. I have a lot of time to decide so I will of course sleep on it and see how it goes....

After an 8 week wait, we finally received our VI Spring Tiara Supreme 3 days ago. It is an absolutely gorgeous bed and is incredibly comfortable. We opted for 2 twin XL's to make a king. And they zip together. This is an incredible feature. My side is medium but my wife has a firm. She is thrilled and is raving about it. But I am not as enthusiastic. This bed is soft. Seemingly softer than in the showroom. I fall asleep in two seconds flat and have gotten 3 very good nights sleep. However I have lower back pain upon waking. I am a side sleeper and feel that my hip sinks into the bed a drop too much causing my body to make a slight "V" shape if that makes sense. I believe this is the cause of my discomfort. I called VI Spring directly to discuss this...

If the padding is animal hair instead of foam, then the break in will probably be different than most users here experience. It is possible, as Budgy says, that it can get firmer as it mats down. Maybe that explains the difference betweens yours and the store? Probably best to give it time and make sure you keep your options open. Not sure how long it would take, since I have never used a mattress with that construction....

If it feels too soft, and it feels like your hips are sinking in too much, and you are getting lower back pain, then it probably is too soft for you. While the feel of the mattress will probably change a bit over time, usually it is in the direction of getting softer (at least with the foam layers). I have not looked at the construction of this particular mattress though, to know if it will be different for some reason.
When is the deadline to switch to a firm? I assume there is nothing in between medium and firm? It is probably worth sticking with it a while to see if changes for the better, but don't let any deadlines pass without resolving the issue.
Generally one is better getting a mattress slightly too firm (as opposed to too soft) and adding 1-2" of toppers to soften to...

Hand made has its distinct advantages, in certain areas. However the materials that the bed are made out of is still overall more important too the overall build quality. Such as latex based foams outperforming polyurethane based foams, or sheeps wool out performing polyester.
All fabrics are woven by machine, and they are stitched by machine (hand guided).
Most mattress upholstery layers (foam in particular) are laid by hand, even in cheap beds. So in essence just about any brand can claim that they hand make their mattresses.
Things that are typically not done by machine.
Side stitching - essentially it is like using twine to reinforce the edges of a mattress, Hastens, Savoir, and Vi-Spring all do this by hand, this is a very labor intensive process but leads to a more comfortable seating edge that cannot be...

Royal Pedic, SleepTek, Vi-Spring, Hastens, Savoir. All brands worth looking at....some may require a wool topper or feather bed to get the desired softness. SleepTek will be very well priced...

I do not have experience selling Vi-Spring but what they are saying actually makes sense to me because animal hair fillings get firmer with compression and use, and do not degrade. See how long you have to decide if you wish to swap to a medium spring tension, if the problem isn't better before the deadline then make arrangements if you can....

I know nothing about that specific mattress but it makes sense that it will settle and will only get worse. This is typical of a mattress used by side sleepers that is too soft or has settled or "sagged" because the comfort layers have formed an impression and don't provide proper support. My opinion is to return it for your money back or at least the firmer one and then hope that you can add layers of softer latex to the top to be comfortable. Side sleepers have a more difficult time getting the proper support and keeping their spines aligned correctly. Good luck....

The VI-Spring beds have the option of different depths for the boxsprings (divans) -- 15 cm, 23 cm or 30cm. If you go with the shallowest boxspring, your bed will have a firmer feel; the 23 cm is the one usually shown in showrooms, and the 30cm is designed to accommodate drawers. We definitely preferred the feel of shallower divan, and combined with a medium mattress, and found that it gave a solid medium (or medium-firm) feel overall, which worked for both my husband (a stomach sleeper) and me ( a side sleeper). You might want to give it a try in the showroom -- pair the Sublime with a shallower divan (if they have a shallow viceroy of course). I personally found the Sublime in medium too soft when paired with the regular depth divan, and always wondered whether I would have liked it better with the shallower divan....
