Re: Tempur-pedic Contour Signature has gone soft - Good_Sleep

They do soften with use (As will most any foam bed). These beds are bricks when they are new.

I was opposite of you.  I didn't care for my Tempur. until it conditioned and softned up (I was thouroughly warned of this).  Same with folks that I know who have them.  I actually wished it was a bit softer.  I'm a back and side sleeper.   I have the Allura.  Maybe the contour select might be better but it too will soften from it's new form.

These beds aren't for everyone.  You may be better off with a firm innerspring.  I would avoid memory foam knock offs like the icomfort.  I don't think you can improve by going that route.

Re: Trying to decide between the Tempurpedic Rhapsody or the Contour Select - Good_Sleep

Hard to tell you what one will work best for you.  The Rhapsody has the cooler sleeping cover on it.  They should have told you that.  Try them both out for longer periods of time.  I have the pillowtop version of the Rhapsody (Allura).  Just make sure you get the right one.  These beds last a very long time.

I do know of people that have the Rhapsody and love it.  As far as sleeping warm, if your a warm sleeper you may have to adjust the weight of your comforter.  I travel a lot and notice no temperature difference from innerspring as opposed to the Tempur.

If you can return the bed, you should consider it.  I bought a Rhapsody (with my heart set on it!) and within 1 month, started getting back aches.

I've never had back problems in my life, and I slept on a Sealy Posturpedic Ultra Firm mattress for nearly 20 years!  The same mattress.  Never a back problem.

So I quickly took advantage of the retailers comfort exchange and swapped for their firmest, the Contour Select.  I couldn't reasonably opt out of Tempurpedic b/c

I had stupidly bought the mattress with a non-refundable Tempurpedic adjustable frame (and quite frankly, it's silly to use that frame with a spring mattress.)  So the Contour has been much firmer, but hotter.  And now that I'm one month into it....backaches.  Again.  Now...

I selected a Stearns and Foster 'Heathstone' plush mattress from Sears last June and gave it a couple weeks before knowing I didn't want to spend the next 8+ years on it.  I have a damaged right shoulder.  Tore the joint up years ago doing a bench press not warmed up and frankly wish I had never messed around with any barbell weights.  I'm not on sports teams.  8 years later, finally found a specialist in San Francisco, a pioneer in shoulder surgery who did an acromioplasty to make room for the impinged rotator cuff.  It helped but will always hurt a bit every day.

So, I don't get to sleep on my right shoulder in any bed out there.  The Stearns and Foster didn't allow it.  It felt pretty plush in the store, but the reality was the construction was cheap batting in the...

Folks,

I sure could use some help trying to figure out which Tempur-Pedic mattress to purchase. Candidly, I’m overwhelmed by the number of different systems they offer, and not sure what to do. The mattress will replace a 7 year old Sleep-By-Number bed that frankly I never liked. Both my wife and I wake up with lower back pain almost every morning, along with some other aches and pains in the shoulders and neck. On my SBN bed, I usually have it set at 85, my wife keeps her setting around 50. We are both in our early 40’s, tall and in decent physical shape…

My biggest worry is trying to figure out the proper balance of firmness, while not feeling like I’m sleeping on concrete. Support, given our back pain...

I really hate you had a very difficult time shopping for a mattress, but I can add some advice for comparison shopping to make it a little more simple. If you decided you liked a model at one store then all you need to do is ask for a copy of the specs for that mattress and then go comparison shopping with the spec sheet. The other retailers should be able to show you the same mattress with a different name and different cover if they carry that model. If not they will have something very close or similar. Get Coil type (Pocketed, offset, bonnell, etc..), number of coils, gauge of wire and number of turns in the coil. The lower the number of the guage of wire the thicker the wire and the firmer the coil. The more turns or rotations in the coil the more durable the spring...
Expecting a baby; switching from coil to memory foam mattress - smariner

Hello everyone,

We haven't shopped for a new mattress in over 10 years, and are looking for some advice.

We currently use a "Sealy Posturepedic Mira Loma Queen Mattress", puchased from costco over 10 years ago. We are expecting a little one in a few weeks, and are shopping for a king sized mattress. We tend to prefer firm/ultra-firm mattresses. Tried a few coil & memory foam mattresses. To give you a sense of what we've like....here are some models that we have liked so far.

  1. Simmons BeautyRest Elderberry viscoplush (at a mattress outlet)
  2. Sealy icomfort Revolution (at Sears)
  3. Memoryworks Olivewood Euro Pillow Top Cushion Firm (at a mattress outlet)

We tried a few plush mattresses, and didn't like it as much (eg: Costco's...

Tempur-pedic Contour Signature has gone soft - drexacek
Mar 12, 2012 1:31 PM
My wife and I bought a contour signature tempurpedic on February 4th.

The first day or so I didn't like it and had to get used to it, but my wife loved it.  After day 2 through day 30 I loved it!!! perfect mixture of comfort.

Now it's killing me. My upper back to the base of my neck hurts every single morning. It seems the bed has gotten MUCH softer.

I'm mostly a side sleeper but sometimes sleep on my back or stomach.  the last few nights I tried sleeping completely on my back to no avail, stil hurts.

Any ideas?

Any one else experienced these beds going much softer?

any recommendations for replacement?

BACK SLEEPERS - What Tempur-Pedic ...Cloud? - HighVolt29
Mar 17, 2012 3:26 PM
I'm 5'10, 145 lbs with no significant back problems except maybe a tighter lower back due to flat feet.

When I purchased my current medium-firm spring mattress, it took a good month for it to feel comfortable, mainly because it felt like it was "pushing" up on my lower back which was relieved by standing up and bending over/stretching...you know that feeeling. Thankfully, my current mattress conformed to my body by creating a little caccoon but when someone else sleeps in the bed with me, it's unbearbly uncomfortable with a lot of back pain (one of the main reasons I want a TP).

So my question is this, since I ONLY SLEEP ON MY BACK, given my weight and size, what matress should I be looking at from the Tempur-Pedic line. Back-sleepers, what is most comfortable for you?

I went to the store today...
