Nice design. It's a Lura-flex offset coil unit with a "pillow top" composed of six 3" thick blocks of Natural Talalay latex which can be arranged to provide firmer support in the middle third than the top and bottom.

Mattress prices start at $3800 for a king and go up to $7000. For that price you darn well better get the best quality stuff.

I do wonder why FloBeds doesn't offer something like this instead of their zone-on-point layer. It's possible that these folks have a patent on this design. I remember reading several patents that all had to do with various zoning techniques.

Edit: They have a lower-priced line that starts at $1800 for a king for an all-latex mattress, but the mattresses in this line aren't component mattresses, don't offer any configurability, and dont' offer the configurable pillow top.

Suz312, He bought the 44 Talatech Latex  Cores from FloBeds as part of their 90 day exchange policy. You can exchange latex cores as many times as you want up until 90 days to find the best comfort level.  I was also amazed at how firm they were and that I was not bothered by the smell after airing them out despite the blended latex but I was bothered by the smell of 100% synthetic latex that was not Talalay processed from a pillow I bought last year and had to give away.  Hence, I like the Talalay Process a lot and feel blended is good product and I do not have to go with all natural like I originally thought.  The 44 ILD does not come in Natural Latex so that is why I caved in and went with blended which I am happy with the mix I have...
Sharing my new FloBed Latex Bed configuration - Lynn2006

Since I had some time yesterday to take out my latex cores to exchange the old cover for the new zippered up new bed cover Dave at FloBeds sent me, I thought I might as well move the 44 ILD in the middle of my two 36 ILD cores with my 1" topper  on top. This was perfect!  the new cover feels wonderful and I was ready for this new firmness combination.  I never knew a 36 under a 44 ILD would give a nice feel until reading posts on this list. I thought having it on the bottom would be the best foundation.  I had asked for a new cover a few months ago due to when it arrived, this was a rip in it around the zipper area and another part inside.  He told me it rarely happens but as soon as I am was sure I was...

D3FI, I was surprised I did not have any allergies to the blended latex when I finally caved in and ordered a 44 ILD on each side of my bed that gave me the support that I needed. I had allergy problems to a synthetic latex pillow that was not the Talalay process that I bought last year that I gave to a friend.  I never had any problems so far with natural or blended Talalay Latex. The blended actually has less of an odor but a slightly different odor that I needed to air out for a few days over my banister in my upstairs hallway before putting the new latex cores in my zippered up cover.

I have a feeling, you and your wife would like three 44 ILD's with a 36 ILD 1" topper if you like it that soft.  I could not sleep with the 2" convoluted...

Well typically it is recommended that you use latex on a platform bed or other solid foundation, rather than a traditional boxspring. That is of course up to you. :)

Firm vs. X-Firm varies by company so you would need to know what the ILDs are. It might be tough to find a firmness in any mattress good for stomach and side sleeping simultaneously (as you said you do both). I've somewhat got this problem also as I almost always go to sleep on my side, but I often wake up on my stomach. Although it's hard to compare a latex mattress to an innerspring in any sense, I think a 44ILD (Talatex) latex would be the closest to a firm innerspring. I am 6'1", 170 lbs and I still sink a bit with our 36ILD natural Talalay. If you have looked at Flobeds, a 36 is an Xtra-Firm.

Typically when I see 4...

blaupunk,

I just wanted to add that we received our blended Talalay sample from Flobeds today. I couldn't quite recognize the smell but my wife helped me out. It smells exactly like an Old Fashioned donut! (that's what Dunkin Donuts calls them anyway). We're going to have to come up with some very non-scientific tests to compare the support between the sample and our natural Talalay cores....

Why choose natural latex? - James

So, the benefits of 100% natural are purported to be non-exposure to petroleum-based synthetic latex, which makes up, what, 60 to 70% of blended latex?  Seems prudent to avoid exposure when possible.

But looking at FAQs on this website, it states that
"natural latex has a lot of impurities in it which is only natural, so it breaks down much sooner than the mix."

And Latex International, who appear to be producing the natural latex used by the better known dealers, state on their website that
"Wear and tear simulation testing shows blend superiority. 100% natural latex cores experience 5 to10% more mattress core height loss (i.e. body impressions) due to wear and tear than our Talalay and 2 to 3 times more loss (softening) due to repeated sitting and sleeping."  I guess if blend softening is really minor than 2-3 times that small amount may not be that great, or 2-3 times...
