Re: ILD 26 latex - haysdb

No. Sorry, I should have mentioned that. It's described only as "100% Natural Latex." It's most certainly a Dunlop latex, and could be from anywhere. I do not have a sample of it so I know nothing more.

Correction: Their website states "Our latex toppers are manufactured via the Talalay process resulting in the highest quality, most supportive and comfortable latex toppers available.  No harmful additives, just 100% all natural latex." That means it's either LI or Dunlopillo. If it was Latex International they would say so, therefore the latex has to be made by Dunlopillo in the UK. BTW, there's nothing wrong with that. Dunlopillo is to Europe as...

I'm glad I asked because I was thinking the Dunlop was softer, so a x-firm Dunlop would be more like a firm or med Talalay.

Hays - Thanks for the info on Creative Ventures - this is one I have not come across before.  She lists a Talalay Cal King core as $650.  Is that not the one from LI?  Or did she special order an LI one for you?  After doing lots of research, I have this idea that the LI Talatech is the best, but I don't know why.  If all 3 manufacturers of Talalay are good, is there any reason why you wanted the LI Talalay?   Is SleepEZ talalay from LI?  SleepEZ does indeed have a great deal on 2 layer (or 3 layer if you want to look at the core split in 2).  I don't know why I passed them up...

Thanks again Hayes for your very helpful info.  Do you think I could go wrong buying a Dunlop mattress?  May I ask where you got your Talatech Cal King?  That is a great price for the Talatech.  I was pretty set on getting a Talatech core, before I came across this Dunlop core at this foam store.  It was so comfy!  Maybe I should go with a Talatech core, and add the 3" topper and padded case from this store.

Now, trying to compare apples with oranges ~ do you think a 100% natural Dunlop x-firm core might equate in firmness to a Talalay firm core?

[Begin Book]

The firmness descriptions such as Firm, Extra Firm and Super Firm are not standardized units of measure. One company's X-firm may be another company's Firm or Super Firm. ILD's are more useful. Both FloBeds and SleepEZ show the ILD ranges...

Is anyone familiar with mattresses.net?  They're offering just the core for $600.  It's Talalay, 60/40 synthetic/natural.  Anyone buy from them before?  I wonder where they get their mattresses from.

I have not done business with them but they have crossed my radar for the simple fact that they sell solid core mattresses and their prices are good. I spent $900 on a Cal King Talatech core, and this was a very good price. FoamSource wanted over $1100.

Remember, there are only three companies which manufacture talalay latex at this time, AFAIK, and as far as Dewey at FloBeds or Shawn at SleepEZ are aware. It won't be long before we start seeing Chinese talalay latex mattresses, but this isn't happening yet. There is Latex International of course, Dunlopillo in the UK, and Radium in the Netherlands. SleepEZ.com has some information on each of these companies. Talatech Re: How do I begin? - haysdb

You can build your own mattress out of materials you can buy piecemeal online, but if it's a latex mattress you are after, you won't save any money and you won't get the luxury of swapping out a layer if you find the mattress too firm or too soft. I am a walking example. I was aware of FloBeds and SleepEZ and others, and I thought they were all charging too much. Now I wonder how they charge as little as they do. For what you are getting, the "kit beds" are a bargain.

There is a "Natural Talalay" that is both all natural latex and manufactured with the talalay process. It's confusing, but there is natural latex and latex blend, and then there are two processes, dunlop and talalay. 4 possible combinations of latex content and manufacturing process. One U.S. company, Latex International, manufactures talalay latex, and they offer it...

Thanks for the report.  May I ask where you got your 44 ILD Talatech cores?   Are they 3.5" thick?

What is often referred to as a "core" around here is actually a half core. Talalay latex cores come out of a mold that is 5.6" thick [1]. FloBeds and SleepEZ have these cores sliced into two 2.8" layers. You will see latex in 1", 1.5", 2", and 3" (2.8") layers. Rarely if ever 3.5" or 4".

[1] Latex International also has some full 6" cores.

Novahelp thanks for sharing.  I hope you continue to be happy with your SleepEZ bed and your configuration you chose.  It seems you like a firm bed also like I do.

My configuration (FloBeds) is similar but a little more firm than yours but with a 1.5" soft topper over a 44 ILD over a 36 ILD over a 36 ILD.  I tried the medium firmness (32 ILD at FloBeds) and it was too soft for me but that was before I had a 44 ILD to put under it so maybe I would have loved your configuration also if I had no topper.  But I still think I can not go softer than a 36 ILD in my configuration and I like having a little cushion near my pressure points I found out from my experiences these past several months of trial and error in getting my bed just right....

I am very chemically sensitive and can't sleep on a conventional mattress due to the Polyurethane outgasBing and the flame retardant chemicals they used.  I can't have anything but solid wood in my home due to allergies to particle board that outgases formaldehyde.  New carpet and new paint bother me for months and months so now I will only use NO Voc paint and even let that air out.

I had no problems after airing out the latex cores for several days over my banister and zipping them up in the enclosed organic cotton cover (with wool in between) that Dave sent me from FloBeds.com.   I liked the 90 day latex core exchange policy since I wanted to make my bed perfect for me and not be stuck with a configuration I was not happy with.  I also liked the 90 return policy for my money back if a latex bed was...

The Thickness of Latex Cores from FloBeds.com and SleepEZ.com are from 2.8" (for blended latex) to 3.0" (for natural latex) so a 6" core would be like you having two latex cores. I think that would be fine with a topper over a slat box or platform bed.  I would not put latex on top of a box spring since latex needs a very firm solid foundation....

Suz312, He bought the 44 Talatech Latex  Cores from FloBeds as part of their 90 day exchange policy. You can exchange latex cores as many times as you want up until 90 days to find the best comfort level.  I was also amazed at how firm they were and that I was not bothered by the smell after airing them out despite the blended latex but I was bothered by the smell of 100% synthetic latex that was not Talalay processed from a pillow I bought last year and had to give away.  Hence, I like the Talalay Process a lot and feel blended is good product and I do not have to go with all natural like I originally thought.  The 44 ILD does not come in Natural Latex so that is why I caved in and went with blended which I am happy with...
