Barry,

Where did you find that delivery review?

When I went to Costco's site and looked for reviews on the sleep science LATEX mattress, I couldn't find any. ...

Ordered mine just before the sale ended.  Hopefully receive ship notice soon.

Can anyone provide the total HEIGHT of the foundation AND mattress?  link doesn't seem to be available on costco site.

And Randy, were you saying your arm is falling asleep with the new latex mattress or only with the tempur?

I'm sure hoping this works, my next option is to try a Tempur Classic or the 14" Celeste from Costco

BTW, any recommendation on a good mattress cover for this?  I assume we want water resistant and thin.

thanks!

it is happening with the bellafina tempurpedic...cant remember if it happened with the costco/sleep science foam mattress or not...back is killing me, everyday...new bed should be here next week...

My wife and I have been sleeping on a king for almost 2 weeks now and love this mattress!!!

great to hear, i ordered mine 12-17 and it hasnt even shipped yet...wonder if they ran out and forgot to tell me   may I ask a question, hopefully you come back to answer...when it was delivered it was set up on the softer of the two sides, i know this because I called sleep science and asked them, did you swap it to the firmer side?

then, how is it from a firmness standpoint?  do you have lower back problems and does this help?

thanks

Before ordering mine (last night!), I called Sleep Science and asked about their statement of the 100% natural latex. The customer service rep was very nice on the phone and assured me that there are no fillers. She said all 4 layers are 100% natural latex. Costco's site states "The Sleep Science Natural Comfort Latex Mattress is 100% natural latex throughout" and "Certified by the ECO-INSTITUT as 100% Dunlop processed natural latex". Not that the company can't lie. But that is what they put in writing and stated over the phone.

i HOPE so.  because according to savvyrest's statement on what the eco institute certifies exactly, "The Eco Institut does not label anything as organic, such as an organic mattress. They merely test to be sure that materials meet certain thresholds for emissions...

this foundation for $200 more- metal with plastic top & four legs... but what IS that exactly?  what is that ridged box between the legs & actual mattress?  similar to a box spring, with some type of internal structure, or something less substantial?  i'm not seeing any up close photos of that foundation or its insides, or the latex itself for that matter./  i just hope its quality isnt' too cheap.

well at least one poster here recommends against the foundation after having bought it in a set.  his was sleep science's m.f. mattress, but they are the same foundation according to costco's product description-  "The Sleep Science coordinating metal foundations are specifically engineered for the Sleep Science memory foam mattresses, including the Latex mattress."

"Avoid the matching foundation. It comes fully assembled and is made of steel with plastic panels for support. While it...

This Costco 10" queen latex mattress sounds like a fantastic deal. In contrast, the quotes I received from Land & Sky for their queen mattresses ranged $1500 (6" latex core "Meadow") to $2000 (9" latex "Rainforest"). Lifekind quoted me $2400 for their standard "Euro" model. Their "Trio" was $3400. The Soaring Heart Natural Bed Company queen latex mattresses range $1300 to 1400, and their all cotton/wool futons pads run $400-500 or so. Now, I'm sure those companies craft a far more polished and organic product than the Sleep Science model Costco is selling. However, 10" of natural latex for $1000 shipped/installed free and with the legendary Costco return policy can't be beat.

Anybody received theirs yet? How is it?

What's the catch? Is the zippered case doused in nasty flame retardants? Is the "natural" latex actually 80% synthetic? Does the mattress smell bad and take forever to off-gas / outgas?...

becky, did they mention who actually manufactures sleep science's latex in these mattresses?

I just called customer service and they informed me it is manufactured in Thailand by Latex Systems. Does anyone know if this is a reputable company?...

I would think that any traditional foundation would be suitable.  I didn't order the slat foundation from Flobed when I got my latex mattress, I went down to my local mattress store and bought a regular foundation for $200 and had them deliver it.  It's working fine.

BTW I was browsing the Savvy Rest site FAQ and under their "Dunlop or Talalay?" link they make the following statement:

"Some companies add “fillers” such as clay to make the latex go further. (If you find a Queen natural latex mattress for $1000 or less, there are fillers.)"

This really makes me wonder whether the latex in these Costco beds has fillers.  The price is *so* much lower than what the established latex mattress companies are offering.

Has anyone ordered and had one delivered yet?  If so, what's your experience been?

Latex Mattress Cover - Natural or Synthetic- Does it Matter? - becky
Dec 29, 2009 10:26 AM

Like some others on this site, I just ordered the Sleep Science Latex Mattress from Costco. The mattress cover is basically all polyester according to customer service. My question is, although Latex mattresses are not supposed to sleep hot, will the synthetic cover trap in body heat and keep the mattress warm? Does it make sense to spend money on purchasing a cotton (or another natural material) cover? I'm not overly concerned about sleeping on the polyester as I will have my own fitted sheets against my skin. I'm only worried about it holding in the heat. Any thoughts?

Thanks...
