Re: What is the best foundation for latex mattress? - Lynn2006

Phoebe2011, To live in a state that has a lot of humidity and to have a mattress last as long as yours is amazing.  If you are able to get a good price on three layers and a topper that may be the best way so you can move the layers around. I would go with SuperFirm on the bottom and Ex-Firm on top and then the topper.  If you only want two layers, then since you will be closer to the platform, I feel two layers of X-Firm will be enough.  If the bed is too firm despite the 2" convoluted topper.  I have three layers and the 1" topper and I like how everything fits inside my zippered cover. I would not want the topper over this since having it inside the cover makes nothing move around in my opinion.

If you go with SleepEZ, I would...

Re: Innerspring Mattress Recommendations PLEASE! - jimsocal

I am one who needs some kind of springiness under latex, and my wife is even more so, so I can understand the dilemma of trying to find an innerspring mattress that might work.

I went through a number of inner spring mattresses years ago and found all of them lacking and returned them all. Nowadays most mattress stores charge around a 20% handling fee for comfort exchanges plus an extra delivery charge that may be around $100. So if you buy a $2000 bed that's around $500 cost to exchange it and most will not take a pure return, only an exchange.

That said, I must say I am leaning towards trying a Simmons mattress at this point. I used to hate them becuase I had one that became very uncomfortable in a short time. But in hindsight, I did move it around a lot...

Does anyone on this forum happen to know what "smartlatex" really is? Just curious why they don't just call it latex. Must be synthetic?

Any help deciphering this buzzword would be appreciated! Myself, I'd prefer it if they'd call a spade a spade, and quit giving things names like "smartlatex." Between that and all the other marvelous undefined enhancements being touted in the mattress industry, like they're supposed to mean something and that we're supposed to know what they mean, I'm getting the shudders. I'm about ready to make my own mattress out of straw.

I did some recent investigating of foams and mattresses from Sealy/S&F and Simmons.

The Sealy literature says that "smart latex" is latex that has soft latex poured over firmer latex, so really it's similar to 2 pieces...

Re: is this true "100% Natural Talalay does not exist"???? - jimsocal

Budgy, thanks for all the information. I want to believe that natural latex is better and longer lasting etc. than synthetic latex. I am just kind of playing "devil's advocate" here and noting that there is a controversy about it; that the S Co's are saying their product lasts longer. Also I seem to recall that either S&F or Simmons claim their Talalay (synthetic) latex is also anti-microbial and/or dust mite resistant or dust mite free. Don't quote me on that but I seem to recall reading that in my research.

As someone pointed out, the main problem is that S&F etc. are charging natural latex prices for their synthetic product, so even though it's cheaper to produce (of that there is no doubt), they are not selling it cheaper.

Simmons claims all their foams are made in the USA and are all low-VOC and contain...

I have always believed that natural latex is better than synthetic latex but now I have to question that.

I happened to be looking at a Stearns and Foster 97% latex mattress just for fun (I was really there to look at their Intellicoil pocket coils which are made from one wire twisted into a spring within a spring; very ingenious design). Anyway as I was trying out the latex mattress a representative from S&F was there and asked me if I had any questions! Boy, did I! I am sure he did not expect to encounter someone who was well-versed in latex specs and who in all honesty probably knows more about it than he did.

However, he made the claim that natural latex will NOT last as long as synthetic latex (i.e. retain it's positive properties). I said I had heard different and was...

Re: Omaha Bedding Company - marcia

Well,I just wanted to post this reply to those who thought I had a fine and fabulous mattress from Omaha Bedding. I had the mattress set for 1 year and 3 months. It was the replacement for the first set that I had for 3 months.

Both were terrrible quality as they caved in, in a matter of days. I weigh 145 pounds. And they both smelled awful for at least 3 months.

May 1, 2011 I purchased a Simmons Beautyrest as I couldn't stand sleeping in a rut on the Omaha Bedding mattress.

I LOVE MY BEAUTYREST!!!!

IT IS FIRM,DOESN'T CAVE IN, AND DOESN'T SMELL BAD.

So,to those who seem to have known all about MY bed, guess you are wrong!...

best matress for chronic pain situation - Betsy
May 11, 2011 11:35 AM
I got a nerve injury from a Yoga class that developed into chronic pain and finding the right mattress is a nightmare now. I have been lucky to have twice found mattresses that worked over the last 10 years but each of them compressed after three years. One was a very inexpensive Simmons beautyrest that I found in my parent's home after they died and another was also a Simmons -- slightly more expensive. The price doesn't seem to really matter. I have been reading the posts for quite a while now and trying out organic latex beds, but part of the problem I am running up against is that I need a smooth soft surface with a firm base for my back and most of the mattresses seem to have all kinds of stitching on them. Part of my chronic pain situation is a hypersensitivity so the stitching causes...
Love our new Talalay latex mattress from The Foam Factory!! - Freedom1955

Well we needed to replace our 13 year old Simmons mattress because my lower back was killing me if I slept on my back and if I tried to sleep on my side my shoulder ond hips would be sore. My wife didn't have a problem with it though. She is 95 lbs. and I'm 230 lbs. She also told me she could sleep on anything so all I had to do was find a mattress that I could sleep on that eliminated my lower back pain and the shoulder and hip pain.

I investigated matresses and discovered latex. I spent many hours on the computer learning about latex. Eventually I had latex samples sent to us. We also checked out Tempurpedic and various other mattress options at Denver Mattress co. Many of the latex mattress companys products were very expensive but I decided that a pain free...
