Hi Jim - You may want to look at Original Mattress Factory.  They have mattresses with 12.5 gauge springs.  They are very upfront about what's in their mattresses, and have a website with all the info.  In their stores they have cut outs of what's inside each one.  The 12.5 gauge springs were too firm for my taste, but I imagine they are very long lasting.

Hi, I was surprised to see this thread. Just so you all know this thread was dug up from almost 2 years ago!

I am quite sure the Englander springs I have were 12.5 gauge. Yes some companies do use 12.5 gauge springs though nowadays here in 2011 most companies are using pocket coils from 14-15 gauge.

I am actually very interested in trying some of the new pocket...

ALL the S Co mattresses will likely break down in a year or two. When they do, do mattress surgery (see highlighted posts at top of the forum re mattress surgery or DIY mattresses).

As to the new Sealys and some others with extra foam in the hip area I really don't know if they work or feel good or not. But in general I'd say the S&F is better than the Sealy. The starter S&F's don't have as many coils as the Simmons but I've not tried either so the S&F may or may not be good coils. Honestly if I were going to buy a spring mattress and couldn't afford too much money I'd probably look for a deal on one of the Simmons close out models. They just came out with new ones to replace their Classics so you could pick up a classic for...

My Simmons was fine for the first 9 months, but then the Poly foam started sinking and sagging and the next thing I knew I started having back pain.  Come back in a year and let us know how it's working out for you.

Thanks Sail, I am curious if you have only had the mattress for 9 months or so, why not simply return it as it states there is a 25 year warranty? Which model of comforpedic did you have?

I found what looks to be a nice latex mattress from http://perfectlatexmattress.com but its to far away for a comfort test which I require before buying any mattress. If this mattress fails then I will seriously consider going out to test this one.

We had it over a year before I figured out what the problem was and warranties are pretty much useless in this industry unless it states that you can return it for any reason. They generally have caveats that make...

We just purchased the Comforpedic Mystic plush - it arrived a little over a week ago.  A week is too soon to really judge the performance of a mattress, but I already like it much better than the sleep number bed that we were using before.

I have not seen a whole lot written about Comforpedic in general.  They still may be junk, but I think it's hard to compare it to a spring mattress.  Only time will tell how it actually performs.

If there's anyone out there who has had a comforpedic for a year or more, I'd also be interested in hearing about the experience.

I plan to update every month or 2, to keep everyone informed. My fingers are crossed. I have my receipt in hand and I don't eat in on at all so I don't have to worry about stains. So if it fails I will be the first in line for warranty coverage. There isn't to much information out there on these particular mattresses so i'm assuming with most of the reviews on this board your mileage may vary.

My last mattress was a Simmons that served me well and I hope this one does the same but only time will tell.

UPDATE -

So the bed arrived the Friday before last, I checked the box springs and mattress thoroughly before it was inserted into the frame and everything was factory sealed. It came with two memory foam pillows and a waterproof mattress protector which I installed immediately.

Now I ordered a firm and this thing is FIRM and that got me worried again because it was hard. After a couple of hours of watching tv laying down it felt better UNTIL I fell asleep on it that night. I woke up Saturday morning in PAIN and feeling like I was 80 years old instead of my early 30's. I immediately called up the store I purchased it from and told them I thought I had made a terrible mistake and would be trading it in for a plush model ASAP. They explained that there are...

Memory Foam side effects? - galileo
Jun 11, 2011 10:15 AM
We recently purchased a new Simmons Beautyrest NxG 250 Luxury Firm Mattress from US Mattress which is a hybrid mattress, consisting of their Super Pocketed Coil System with 1.5 inches of regular foam and 2.5 inches of memory foam on top.

We sleep pretty well on the mattress but I had a minor headache the first 3 days and then today I woke up feeling dizzy. I'm worried that I might be sensitive to the chemicals used by the memory foam, and read some anecdotal evidence online supporting this. I was curious if anyone here has experienced any side effects from memory foam, but it sounds like most people on this forum go the latex route.

Which brings me to my real question. Since we can't return/exchange our mattress, it sounds like our best option would be going the "surgery" route, taking the...
