Re: Questions for all the latex sleepers - JCturboT

Mike,

I have owned my SleepEZ latex  series 13,000 for over almost four years. The 13,000 is a 4-layer non-laminated mattress.

Regarding the motion transfer: it is much better than a coil mattress. I am a restless sleeper while my Wife sleeps very still and she has yet to comment about the motion from me tossing & turning .Whenever we stay at a Motel on a spring mattress I know I disturb her sleep.

The edge support is OK-not as good as a spring mattress but certainly useable for when I tie my shoes on the edge of the bed.

The matress is only slighly heavier than my older Stearns & Foster coil mattress.Plus, it has 4 separate layers to deal with but if you are trying to move it all a whole it is harder than a coil mattress as the bed tends...

Your foam wore out.  Maybe the springs did too, maybe not.  If you buy another off-the-rack bed it will happen again.  Not the issue of the springs necessarily, it is the foam.

If you have lots of disposable income and don't mind a bucketload of stress as bed after bed do the same exact thing as this one did(and no it says absolutely nothing in the description...but sounds divine, doesn't it?!), go for it.  Budgy has  a top of the line bed that he described here before that is apparently lasting well for him.  Sometimes expensive beds do last longer, but many are expensive just because of the name and not the quality components.

Personally, I've been most satisfied with having a mattress made for me, simple and the old fashioned way...and it was less expenisve as well.  Not only that, but it eliminated the hassle...

I don't know about the springs or the foam that is in your mattress, sounds okay to me.  I think you might just need a topper to make a total of about 4" of cushion above the springs.  If you bed has 2" you need about 2" more.  You could try a polyfill topper...they feel great.

I would NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVERNEVER again buy a Stearns and Foster bed.  They are owned by Sealy, and use cheap foam, breaks down quickly(try 3 months) and don't honor warranties. It was so bad, first I slept on my side of the bed until the hips cratered, then I slept in the center until that failed, then I slept on the very edge of the bed until I couldn't stand it anymore.  I ONLY WEIGHED 115#!   I had to give my new bed to a friend who liked...

Spent two weeks sleeping on pillow top, spring beds at Four Seasons and Fairmont hotels, all beds were spring and usually Stearns/Foster...instead of paying $3000 for the one from Four Seasons I decided to buy similar one direct from Serta where I can return it if willing to pay 15% plus $200, which I am willing to do...

After having both latex and foam, I have decided I need an old fashioned mattress, i think  :-)

time will tell, but those beds in those hotels were wonderful...if the new serta works out i will be returning the latex/costco bed, which is ok but i could never get it perfect

12 3/4 gauge steel in the coils. determined this by lying on a lot of beds. LOL. the shifmans are all of that gauge. a few mattresses have them. king koil has a line called extended life made for heavy people. the top of the line stearns and foster , which are only made in king and queen sizes, also has that gauge. the holland maid coil from hickory springs can be ordered in that gauge. cost is 90 dollars for a full plus 200 to ship it with the side rails in. can be shipped very cheaply just rolled up without the side rails, but I have no idea how to construct that , so that is not an option for me.

Thanks for you advice and help on the other thread. I have decided to cancel my order for the Stearns and Foster mattress and go with either a memory foam matress or latex matress through foambymail.

I quickly realized that getting a euro pillowtop will be a very bad idea for me very quickly.

Good decision, IMHO.

The memory foam matress that I would get from them is:

4" Slow Recovery Foam - 5.5 lbs/ft.3
w/ 5" LUX-HQ (Firm) Foam - 2.6-2.8 lbs/ft.2
Queen Mattress (60" x 80")

price - about $503

This is their pre-configured one.

Unless the...

New SleepEZ 10000 - TheOC

After lurking on this forum for quite a long time, I decided to purchase a SleepEZ 10000 Cal King.  Since I live in Southern California, I took a day trip to Scottsdale in order to check out SleepEZ’s showroom.  Shawn was out of town but Jeremy did a nice job showing me SleepEZ’s products.

I am about 360 lbs. and my wife is about 260 lbs.  That makes us a bit heavier than many on this forum.  I was a bit concerned about bottoming out a latex mattress.  Nevertheless, we decided on the 10000 model based on Shawn’s recommendations and the fact that my wife thought that our existing bed was already too high off the ground.  We chose blended talalay over natural talalay based on Shawn’s recommendation and my showroom experience; I did not detect an appreciable difference between blended and natural talalay.  However, there was a...

Thanks Kait. I was told S&F has changed their Springs and foams complete for this year, but I've seen those bad reviews of sagging bed. I just checked the S&F today again, and they have a good sale, so option is either to keep Simmons I got and add a topper, or to get the S&F that's got more foam on top (says it's a combo of Latex and Memory Foam).

latex topper advice please - kavikat

We bought a firm Stearns & Foster and my husband LOVES it -- he no longer wakes with back pain.  I, on the other hand, toss and turn all night becuase the bed is just too hard for me.  We recently slept at a hotel with a deep feather-bed on it -- I slept like a baby whereas my hubby moved to the floor during the night becuase his back was so unhappy!   I purchased a one of those poly-foam mattress covers which does help a little but I think I need more.  I'm thinking of purchasing a twin-sized latex topper for my half of our king-sized bed. (I don't want a feather-bed because one of my young kids is allergic).   So here are my questions:

Is this is a workable solution (a twin topper on my half of a king bed)?

What IDL...

S&F Help!!! - karenh4slah

Hi, I have already bought a Sealy Posturpedic Cameo Glow firm and it is too firm and I swear it sinks in the middle when I'm sleeping.  I wake up and my back is so stiff and it hurts.  I toss and turn ALL night!  I am utilizing my 60 exchange from Mattress Discounters and want to upgrate to a Stearns and Foster.  I am 5'4, 135lbs and mostly a side sleeper.  I also have minor scoliosis and my back does get sore.  I think I have chosen a bed, but am second guessing myself in fear of choosing the wrong bed again.  I really like the Fleet St. Luxury Plush TT (also called Duval St.)  I like the way it supports my back and gives a little extra cushion for my shoulders when I sleep.

I have read so many posts about "body impressions" and "sagging" and...
