I agree with Budgy that getting a mattress with less pu foam is key. You can find out which has less by looking at the label on the end, usually positioned at the head against the wall because they don't want you looking at it! wink

The debate between S&F and Simmons is one that there is no "right" answer to. Personally I now prefer the Simmons (though I have not slept on either Simmons or S&F - just studied them a bit), because the way I see it they have more wire in their springs and more springs per square foot (density). S&F tries to push the idea that their "intellicoil" is really 2 springs because it is wrapped in such a way that it has a firmer base and a lighter top - it actually is kind of like 2 springs in...

Update: I put another 2" of latex on this thing for a total of 3.5" and must say the springs are  still a bit too uncompromising for me. Arms always alseep in the morning etc.  Going to swap it out for a foam/latex hybrid at a loss.

Hi, I cannot say from experience in sleeping on one but from looking at them very closely I can say that the Simmons are some of the best pocket coil springs around, aside from much more expensive "specialty" or "custom made" mattresses.

I have had a complete turn around on this, I used to hate Simmons. Now I am anxious to buy one and try it. Why the turn around? Simply because I have laid on them, looked at the way the springs are made and compared them to others like S&F and...

Anyone know why latex is so unpopular in S brand mattresses? - slpngoc

I've read here how good latex can be a fantastic comfort material in mattresses.  I've even sampled organic mattresses with natural talalay latex and they're great, but the price and terms not so much.  But, I'm appalled at how few choices there are for mattresses in major stores than have any amount of latex in comfort upholstery.

Serta sells a $1,600 twin 8" mattress (Vera Wang where you're paying for the fancy cover) set which felt inconsistent between 2 stores.  There are no Sealy latex mattresses around.  Simmons makes a Natural Care that was decent, but the stupid thing is a 13" height mattress when it doesn't need to be.    The choices are very limited.

Anyone venture why?  Is it that latex is hard to produce?  Expensive?  Too heavy? Most don't like the feel?

Memory foam is all over the place and often found stacked...

Ive been on an icomfort Revolution for about 10 nights now.   It is a very plush mattress and I sink too much into it.  I can feel too much warmth mostly on my hips sunk in during the night.  I have a very good back, but my lower back feels a little stiff in the morning.  I will probably be setting up a refund on it tomorrow.

Another person recommended to go a little firmer on memory foam.  I too thought the Genius was too firm, but I might switch to that model.  There is still 2 3/4" of memory foam to sink into on the Genius.

Since I also have a Comforpedic Mystic (AKA "Respiro", AKA "Navina") Plush, I thought I would post an update of my own.  Unfortunately, for me, this bed has not worked as well as I wanted it to.  The first few weeks were OK, but then the pain set in - pain like I haven't felt from a mattress before.  I will say that my partner doesn't have these problems, and thinks the bed is pretty comfortable -- we are about the same height and weight (6', 180lbs), so it goes to show that everyone's different.

I appear to have 2 problems with the Comforpedic:

  1. It is not soft enough.  Although the mattress conforms to my body, it's not soft.  I woke...

Hi all,

Since my husband does not like the feel of Tempurpedic, we've decided to go firm firm mattress with a good latex topper. (Maybe like 1" memory foam b/t the mattress & latex topper if needed)

I believe we have narrowed our search to the following:

1.) Stearns and Foster "Foxbridge" Luxury Firm (Mattress Firm will price match for $1,799 for the King set) http://www.mattressfirm.com/Stearns-and-Foster-Foxbridge-Firm-P94.aspx

2.) The Simmons Beautyrest World Class extra firm (30 day return also for $1,799)

They feel quite similar in person, both very firm, little to no bounce. They also have similar coil count, foam, etc...

Any thoughts on long term durability b/t the two (NO SAGGING)? Stearns and...

I think they all pretty much soften over time with enough use. I have tried a ton of mattresses as well at many stores. For example, I have tried the Rhapsody at many stores & today again at another store. It felt a good fit softer than it did at all the other stores. I can only assume that one has simply had more traffic than the others.

So, today I went to some local stores to check out really firm mattresses that I could put a latex topper on.

I really liked the Simmons Beautyrest World Class (Parksdale) extra firm. Anyone have experience with this mattress? They actually had a 2" Natura natural talalay latex topper at the store, so I was able to try it on top, which felt great. Nice and firm, but the latex was good on top.

I'm having a hard time finding a lot of reviews on this mattress in general. It felt very nice & firm in store and they of course assure you of no sagging. But- hard to know. Do these materials seem like they'd be durable? Or no? Or anyone have this one?

Extra Firm Mattress Options and Latex Q's? - eric_s
Jul 23, 2011 2:53 PM
In the market for a mattress and trying to understand the options.  Memory Foam and Latex were basically non-existent in the market when I last bought a mattress.  Yes, it's probably long over due for replacement.

Visited a nearby mattress store whose selection was primarily S/S/S . . . With the caveat that my back was bothering me today (occasional, but not typical) the mattress that felt best to me in the store was a Simmons World Class Corita Extra Firm with a Comfort Level Rating of 2.

Mattresses with memory foam as the primary material are more or less out due to heat retention concerns, can't stand being too warm when I sleep.

Interested in Latex, possibly even DIY.  Is any Latex mattress going to provide a similar feel to an Extra Firm Coil Spring mattress?  Or is it going to be...

Hi - I am so sick of trying mattresses. lol  I feel like Goldilocks or the Princess and the Pea.  Its too long a story, and it involved Sleepys and their sneaky, dishonest ways, but that isn't what I'm interested right now.  I am looking for my 3rd mattress in 2 months...  and this is what I am interested in right now and having a hard time deciding on, so if anyone has any experience with these, I'd appreciate your insights.  My goal is to have a good mattress for at least 5 or 6 years without sagging (as much as possible), and doesnt make a ridge in the middle, etc.  I will just have the mattress, as I have a platform bed.

I layed on and like very much (in the stores, Goodness knows if they would feel the same at home, its crazy) -- and this...
