FWIW, LI uses the term 'Talatech' for both products. They use Talatech Natural when referring to their 100% latex non blended version. If refering to their 30/70 blended product, they just call it Talatech.

Thanks. Yeah, I just now figured that out, as you'll see in a rather lengthy post in tjstogner's thread. I was figuring things out as I wrote it, and then saw your post here....

Latex International (LI) certifies that the compound utilized to manufacture its Talatech® natural latex mattress cores and toppers includes only natural latex rubber harvested from the “Hevea Brasiliensis” rubber tree, as well as soaps and curing agents. We do NOT use any man-made or synthetic latex in our Talatech® natural latex formula.

Interesting. That letter is dated from 2007; it might be worthwhile to contact LI and find out if their terminology has changed since then (it's hard to tell from their website). My understanding is that Talatech is the trademarked name of their blended-latex product, in which case the phrase "Talatech natural latex" is a contradiction in terms and (obviously) a possible source of much confusion. If they're using "Talatech" to refer to both their blended...

The description on that OM topper page says "all-natural," but I think that is misleading. The ILDs of those toppers match those of the Talatech (blended latex) sold by Latex International, and the PDF showing the Oeko-Tex certification says "Talatech."

The ILDs of the natural Talalay latex produced by LI are designated differently. On SLAB's website, they are given as N2 (soft 20 ILD - 24.99 ILD), N3 (medium 25 ILD - 29.99 ILD), N4 (firm 30 ILD - 34.99 ILD), and N5 (extra firm 35 ILD - 41.99 ILD).

As some of you may know from my other thread, I have an all talalay mattress on the way... 3 different layers, made with 100% natural Latex International foam. But from searching around these forums, I don't see anything positive about the talalay latex, as people seem to prefer dunlop. Most of the comments I see are the talalay "pushes back" and "can't get comfortable". I have only tried it in the store, and it was nice, didn't sleep on it yet....but I have one on order that will be showing up in 2 weeks. I'm starting to think twice after reading these forums though!! Does anyone have positive experience ?

Really? I get the impression talalay is actually the preferred choice among most members here.  And I like the support of "pushback" into the arch of my back,...

At 43 percent less than the 100 percent Natural product listed at SLAB I'm not surprised or even disappointed to know this is the LI TalaTech blend.  It is disconcerting how opaque the manufacturers and resellers are with this information.

I would expect a small shop like Overnight to do better by appealing to the informed DIY latex consumer instead of trying to be the online version of Big Bill's Mattress Emporium.  I just ordered the topper last night but will report back in a week or two after giving it a ride.

February 8, 2012 update:

My "overnight" mattress became "almost a month" mattress.  The LI 3" latex topper (19 ILD) is apparently backordered at overnightmattress.com; they said it would it probably ship next week but I cancelled the order.  The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was pleasant but it had...

The majority of 100% natural latex sleep products are produced via the Dunlop process, while our latex is produced via the Talalay process. LI’s proprietary compound mix required by the complex Talalay process includes raw materials such as natural rubber latex, zinc oxide, fatty acid soaps, and sulfur, which are needed for the vulcanization, foaming, and curing process.

I just noticed on that webpage the manufacturer's warranty on their Talatech Natural v.s. the Classic Talatech. They give a 20 year on their blended product, yet only a 10 year on their natural.

This leads me to believe budgy's theory even more about the LI making more money off their blended product vs. the all natural. They try to sway consumers and bedding manufacturers to buy their more profitable product by offering a much longer warranty which will almost certainly never be honored.

I don't doubt that tjstogner's new mattress is 100% natural latex (should be, for the price); I just think that name "Talatech," used the way it is there, is a bit problematic.

Talatech is a good product, but it is a blend of natural and synthetic rubber (I don't know the proportions of each).

Just mentioning this because I think people need to know what they're buying, and some retailers do...

Well after a bunch more consideration tonight I just can't get 100% natural for the entire mattress within my budget.  But I can get it for the top layers (via SLAB) and go with the Talatech blend for the bottom 6" (via overnightmattresses).  I'll sleep on the idea overnight and make a final decisions tomorrow.  Thanks for the input!
