Thank you very much for the response. The Olivia Plush/Firm uses alternating rows of 13.75 gauge coils and braided 17 gauge coils from what I have been told. The salesman at one of the "more" trustworthy shops says that the Black line uses upholstery grade foam for cushioning layers. It is listed as visco memory foam and transflexion foam, not sure what that consists of. From what I understand pretty much every mattress made uses some polyurethane foam. It seems to me then that it would depend on the quality of the foam, which unless someone were in the industry it would be pretty hard to know. I like the idea of the Springfree latex, but I am getting a little turned off by some of the reviews I have read and by the fact that they use dunlop latex instead of talalay.

Thanks for all your posts.  I've researched the contents of the Sealy SpringFree line by going to USMattress.com and looking at that Latex matress comparison.  It is not LI Latex, it's Sealy's own proprietary all synthetic latex.  I am not too hung up on it being synthetic, and it does have a lot of latex in it! I am still shopping around, but to me for the price, the Sealy SpringFree Firm, or Plush model is a great value for the money.  I am more concerned about durability and long term comfort, especially since the spring only bed that we have now is only 1 year old and it started giving us back pain (it was a pillow top).

In any case appreciate all your responses!  I am probably going to wait to see more responses.  I am trying to decide between the Firm and Plush model now....

I know that there is very little latex inside the mattress, and it has several layers of PU foam, which will most likely break down very quickly and cause craters in your bed . . . look at US mattress to see what is inside the Springfree.  The website has a chart of all the Simmons/Sealy/Serta "latex" mattresses and breakdown of what is actually inside these mattresses.  They aren't 100% latex.

This US-Mattress website has a handy reference to the components of the Sealy/Simmons/Serta latex mattresses.  Of course you have to figure out which mattress compares to the one you are looking at as they are all branded under different names.  It looks like the one you looked at might be the Sealy Posturepedic SpringFree Latex Garden Vine Plush on this chart:

US-Mattress is offering this mattress for $1,259 for a Queen and $1,511 for a King, so no, you're not getting a special deal.

FYI, according to Sealy, "SuperSoft SealyFoam" is high density polyurethane foam.

o.k. i've found it close to that- $1529 but not sure if it included shipping (& extra for split queen for me).  i agree they feel better than anything near that price, even sealy's springfree firm latex.

so i went to the roomstore this week. they had both that one at $1629 but with "unconditional price match guarantee" (we'll see, they match internet prices just not 'direct from warehouse' type sellers), and they also had the sealy signature firm.  the latter was a special designation of the signature line called "rejuvinate" (?), which is the same, just with some special covering ("aloe treated").  but i matched up all the layers in his paperwork on it, & except for the case & tag, layer for layer it's the exact same thing as the signature greenhurst firm for $909.  roomstore has it for $1099, & they will not price match that much.

anyway, the whole point is for me, BOTH of those models feel so nice out...

really appreciate the in depth & personal response.  thanks for taking the time.  by the way, i'm already familiar with the shill police around here, so you & eagle can drop the act (i know you're all just deep cover sales reps).

So from what everyone's saying about them, i have no doubt that f.b.'s are among the best.  And i'm glad to hear you went with 3x all extra firm, because it seemed so counterintuitive to get a custom mulit layered design, only to order it with all three layers of identical ild.  but that's just what i would do with this type- all in the firmest latex available.  super firm. that might come close to how firm i like conventional mattresses, i.e. those couple of inches of marvelux (55 ild? 45?) that i know i like.  But if we can't evne reliably compare ild's from one type of latex to another,...

I need to buy a king-sized mattress and am looking at the Sealy Posturepedic Springfree which is a latex mattress at $1700 or the Comforpedic which is a memory foam for $3800.   I currently have a queen Comforpedic which I love but we didn't pay anywhere near the $3800 at the time and I'm having a very hard time even contemplating spending this much money on another Comforpedic.  With that said, does anyone know anything about the Posturepedic Springfree?...

Hi mattress geniuses,

I am hoping to get some advice.  Here are our specs:

Me (M): 6'  215 lbs - side sleeper switch sides frequently during night.  Sleep with pillow under my head another to hold onto with my arm and a body pillow for between my legs. Not sure if it is relevant but I also have severe acid reflux.  I tend to get hot while sleeping and am very allergic to dust mites (just giving all info :)  )

Wife (F): 5'7" 148 lbs - usually side sleeper but sometimes uses other positions / just one pillow under head

I'm looking for any and all kinds of advice regarding a latex mattress.  Our current bed is a king Simmons Beautyrest (either World Class or Classic or something similar judging by their pictures) we've had for about 6 years and it is getting pretty uncomfortable to sleep in.  The matching box springs would...

Sealy Latex or Simmons Black - Mike22

I've been shopping around for a bed now for quite a while. I ended up buying a pillowtop mattress about 6 months ago that I find to be way too soft now. It just doesn't provide my back the support I am looking for unfortunately. So I have narrowed down my selection to the Sealy Springfree Plush model and the Simmons Beautyrest Black Olivia Plush/Firm model. In the back of my mind I am also considering the Simmons Black Josephine Firm. Problem is that I like the feel of all these with the first two being my favorites, but I don't know how they will feel over a period of time and I don't know which will theoretically be more reliable. I've heard that latex is typically more reliable than coil mattresses, however the Sealy I believe uses a synthetic form which is not supposed to last as long as...
