Re: Anyone bought a Sealy Posturepedic Excitement Plush that can recommend it? - sandman

Hi Paul,  Sorry to hear that you are still struggling.  I agree with you that the interlaced Sealy Reserve is probably not the best for side sleeping.   If I were starting over, I would want to try pocketed coils.   I have compensated by having 5" of foam above the coils.  So, it feels more like a foam bed with a firm base.   It works pretty well for me, with plenty of support yet reasonably soft.  At some point I might want to get a used pocketed coil mattress to try surgery on, but pretty happy right now.

I don't know anything about the models you are looking at.  Anything that has much PU foam would now make me hesistant.

Anyone bought a Sealy Posturepedic Excitement Plush that can recommend it? - shovel99

HI Folks,

I am about to give up mattress surgery and try another mattress.  My continuous coil Sealy reserve springs don't have enough accommodation for my side sleep, and combos of latex, memory and PU are just not cutting it.

I demoed two 2011 models at MattressFirm today.... with individiual pocketed coils, titanium progressive spring system:  Irresistable Tight Top Cusion Firm... which felt very good and not that different from the Excitement Plush.  According to the sales person, the tags and the website, the Plush has thinner coils and .79 inch of latex on top + 1 inch of PU, + 2x .75 inch of "Core" (more PU).

The cusion firm has 2 inches of PU on top.  I still have a boatload of 1 inch toppers.... 14 ILD, 20 ILD latex, 4 lb mem foam, 5 lb mem foam, 5.3lb mem foam, supersoft...

The main problem I had with the entry level 'Hearthstone Luxury Plush' (tight top) from Sears was the foam indented in hips and shoulder areas in only several days.  I know we've heard that a million times.  It was a good looking mattress and the cover fabric was nice, but it would have been nice to have really durable and 'springy' foam.  The box spring was decent.  I pressed down on it fairly hard and it was solid under there.

I guess it's a moot point for me to plug S&F because it didn't work for me.  Maybe a pillowtop would have worked, but I don't plan to get one. I'm much more interested in high quality latex comfort layers.

I have physically cut open a S & F warranty return mattress that was supposed to contain wool and silk in the mattress, there was no wool or silk in the fibres underneath the cover.  The fabrics may look fancy but they are essentially still mass produced synthetic covers from overseas just like the stuff on the 'lower end' Posturepedics.  Regarding coil differences, there are many Posturepedics that contain pocket coils, ironically enough a lot of people have complained about the quality of S & F beds going down since they made the change to invidual coils a few years ago.  They used to be very simple heavy gauge bonnell springs.

The beds also used to come with a card that was supposed to be signed by the person...

Sealy came out with the 2011 model Posturepedics with the individual coils (DSI) and 'power packed' center and all.  That's the posturepedic I would shoot for.  The SS and DSX coils are the older style coils.  DSI coils are also Titanium.  Over here Sleep Train carries the new Posturepedics.

The Stearns and Foster silk infused fabric is nicer than the knit covers on the Posturepedics.  Not that it will matter all that much with a pad and fitted sheet on.

I tried a Posturepedic with memory foam layer.  Those twin suggested retail are about $1800 twin, not cheap.  It was ok.  The plush was not Plush enough for me.  I can't speak about how durable they are. ...

Do you want free springs/foam to experiment with? - Susan123

Hi All - some of you may remember I tried to salvage my brand new non-returnable Sealy Posturepedic with mattress surgery.  I never could get comfortable on the mattress.  Now, it's in pieces and kind of hard to haul away tied to the top of my car ;-)  So, I thought I'd offer it here to see if anyone in the Triangle, NC area might want to pick it up.   I thought someone wanting to experiment with an innerspring base and different foam layers might find it a way to get started at no cost.  It's a nearly new 2010 posturepedic innerspring full sized, plus several different densities of foam layers.  It's very clean, but the top is not attached.  If you want to pick it up, please email susanandsam@gmail.com for more info.

I had a Posturpedic set for 15 years and it held up very well, but I understand quality has degraded over the years. The one you linked looks very nice, but personally I wouldn't buy a bed I couldn't try out first. Finding this mattress to try at another store will be very hard since each retailer sells it under a different name.

If you do order it, just make sure there's a good return policy, which I believe Costco does have, and no unforseen fees.

Good evening all.  We are looking into a new mattress since our current one is being exchanged under warranty.  We are limited to what JCpenny sells, and at first glance we really liked the feel of the Serta iComfort Revolution Plush, but after reading so many reviews here we are now unsure. We have not had much luck in the past ten years with mattresses since this will be our fourth being replaced under warranty. Mainly issues with sagging mattresses.  So being that every retailer has a different name for the same model mattress, finding reviews is very difficult.  So with this said, anyone have feedback on this mattress? Also if anyone knows the name of this mattress at other stores so I can research further, I would appreciate it.  Any info greatly appreciated.  Thanks again

i feel weird buying a mattress I could not try out.  Do they only make this model for Costco or could I find it somewhere else?

Any feed back on these Posturepedic sets?...

Hi folks...

I posted a question on this forum a few weeks ago & wanted to say "Thank You" to all of you who gave me really well thought-out, detailed, & helpful answers.

I've been searching off & on for a new mattress for more than a year.  I'm sleeping on an 11 yr old Sealy Posturepedic innerspring mattress (NOT a pillowtop)  that is soooooooooo dipped that it looks like a soup bowl.  I'm literally sleeping in a giant hole.  It's killing me.  So, that's it.  I have to get a mattress, any mattress, because anything would be better than this.

So, I would like to know >>  If price were NO object & someone offered to buy you ANY mattress you wanted, would you get a Tempurpedic, or not??  Because it seems like what holds a lot of people back from getting a Tempurpedic is the OUTRAGEOUSLY HIGH PRICE.
