Update to Celeste:  it's been 5 nights of sleeping on the Celeste since switching from the Ara.  It's weird, the first night was ok,  the next four nights have produced sore backs and my RIBS hurt.  This mattress is like sleeping on a slab of granite!.  I'm willing to give it a little more time. However we have been sleeping through the night so the "jury is still out".  The latex and PU foam in the Celeste must be very firm because the visco memory foam on top is lovely.   I'll let everyone know if/when we throw in the towel.

ara too soft, celeste too firm, try the emma which is the 10 inch...i liked it better than any tempurpedic i tried...

I had the same impression.  I really liked the feel of the memory foam on top, but overall it was too firm.  Not totally sure why, since 4" of memory foam and latex should be about enough.  But, as you said the...

Sandman,

The memory foam is  3" at 5 lb density.  I sleep on my side and weigh 217 lbs.  My wife sleeps mostly on her back and she weighs around 125.  Of course I've only had the bed for a few weeks, so can't speak to longetivity, but w/ Costco's warranty and the manufacturer's 20 yr. warranty (warranty states > = 3/4" sag), I think that taking a chance is in one's favor.

I just looked at the Costco website, and I could not find the density of the memory foam for the 10" Emma.  The sleep science website no longer shows the 10" version.

How do you know it is 5lb.?  Did they tell you that?  My memory was that it was 4lb., but maybe I remember it wrong.  The 5 lb. memory foam they had on the Celeste seemed pretty good, so hopefully that is what it...

we bought the 10" 100% latex costco mattress back in january.  although it is not available now, sleep science is supposed to offer it again this month. (see thread on this mattress)

the mattress was very comfortable at first, but after about a month, i began to have hip pains while sleeping.  several weeks ago we flipped the mattress to the firm side and the pain went away.  apparently, i needed firmness instead of the softness i was seeking.   you might find it worthwhile to spend more to get the adjustable mattresses favored by many on this forum.  so far we are satisfied with the costco  purchase.

Hi, I bought the mattress and foundation on this by the way. The smell was pretty strong especially at first. We had the bed for about a month and you could still smell it, but we had sheets on it the whole time -- never left it to air out for a few days. We did not buy any other memory foam mattress.

sorry for the delay - don't visit the forum consistently. It did not sink in 7 inches. The Ara had 7 inches of memory foam. We had both the mattress and the foundation. I liked it more than my husband because I don't sink in as much. When you first sit on the mattress it feels like a rock, then in seconds it sinks in. For my husband he felt like he was trapped. He only weighs 160 lbs. We didn't get it for any specific back pain reason but several aches and pains while sleeping, hips, numb shoulder, pressure points....

Yes, I confirmed the thickness during discussions I had w/ the manufacturer before I purchased (may also be in literature I have, but I'll have to look).  Below was captured off Sleep Science website for the 8.5" mattress.  .

Hi all, I've been reading this forum since about 4:30 am (which is the time I wake up and start fighting the sagging hole in the center of my King Coil Eurotop - yuck.

I see that a lot of you are going towards latex and some towards memory foam.  I'm afraid to make the jumpt to "the dark side" but what do you think of this Sleep Science Celeste bed from Costco?

Is there anywhere I can get one for that cheap that's as good or even better where there's not 4-6week delivery?

One last question:  I may stay with inner spring beds, and know that I want to go firm and build upon it if necessary rather than get one with all this cheap padding that sags.  I've learned about heavy coil gauge and don't know if should go with latex or visco on top.  I found a SpringAir for $999...
