The convoluted topper came yesterday and I unzipped the mattress cover and put it in.  I'm not sure the convoluted topper offers any improvement over the 3 core layers.  My back ached last night and this morning when I got up.  My mattress is F/XF/XF.

I don't expect my mattress to *solve* all of my back problems, but I do expect it not to *exacerbate* my back problems.  While I *know* my old mattress was exacerbating my back problems, I don't know yet whether the Flobeds mattress also exacerbates my back issues.

I'll give it a week and see how I feel then.

Let me try and offer a word of encouragement if I can.

What I am finding with my FloBeds is that it takes time for your body to adjust to the new feel. At first my bed on the firmer side felt quite firm indeed. In fact...

catlover said "The Dunlop latex looks good and I like the slight aroma. Fresh-clean scent IMO. Not overpowering rubber smell at all."

catlover: I am curious how the Dunlop layers looked in a little more detail if you would. Were there any imperfections? Any cracks, cuts,or tears? Any discoloration of any kind?

It is my understanding that 100% natural botanically grown latex, whether it's Talalay process, or Dunlop process, will have some minor imperfections. Not pristine looking. It is my understanding that the only way you can get pristine looking latex is with a blended product. But then you have a product that has a distinct rubber chemical odor, due to the fact that it is at least 60% petrochemical-based latex.

I know that the Talalay I receive from FloBeds had a few of these imperfections. And the smell you mentioned is exactly the way I would describe it. A very slight...
Re: FBM Foam & Latex 1 year update - eagle2

B White:Thank you very much for being willing to come back and give us this update on your mattress experience.

I have only been sleeping for two weeks on a FloBeds. But what you have revealed from your one year experience makes a great deal of sense to me and reinforces some suppositions that I have felt myself. For instance. The idea that the foam actually softens with use. I was told this could happen by a knowledgeable person at Savvy Rest. This individual indicated that the foam would soften up over time.

I have an all natural botanically grown Talalay process latex mattress. I had one side of my California King that was initially set up, from top to bottom, firm, over extra firm, over extra firm.  When I first laid on it it seemed very solid and firm indeed. But the more I laid on it the more accommodating...

I think jello is actually a pretty good description for all natural talalay latex! I know we're all different in terms of how things feel, and of course it also depends on how firm your layers are... maybe well-set, firm yet bouncy, jello :) But my husband calls it "the sponge bed", and he can sleep on most anything, whether it's a sponge or a rock.

Linda: The new soft layer of Talalay I received from Flobeds to try out, is quite soft and does have a some what Jello feel. The mediam piece is some what firmer, and you might call it, "Jello like", I would not, but the firm and extra firm are surely not Jello in their consistency. And this is if you do not lay on them. Once you lay down on them and spread out the load you have an entirely...

Randy: I do not agree that latex feels like Jell-O. At least not the Jell-O that I'm used to.

Latex feels different than just about any other substance that I'm aware of. In my case I'm talking about 100% botanically grown natural Talalay process latex. I know, that's a lengthy name. Unfortunately, because nobody big enough that is willing do it has stepped in and required a universal definition for latex, this problem will persist.

It can be either a blended product of petrochemicals plus natural, and almost any percentage point, one way or the other. And processed by two different methods, either the Dunlop process or the Talalay process. Both processes produce a very different products. Or it can be a latex made out of 100% botanically grown material.

I'm sure the point has already been made, but Tempurpedic memory foam latex mattress, are made exclusively from petrochemicals. And...

OK.  So I called Custom Comfort and told them I wasn't happy with their customer service.  They told me the core was going to be 32, what they delivered was 28, and since I am heavy, I was sinking right into it.  They told me they would come out next Thursday to pick it up and adjust it.

So after a conversation with the manager, I ended up asking them to come pick it up and refund my money.  They agreed to do this after some arguing.  Then I told my husband that they are coming out to pick up the mattress today and he's got steam coming out of his ears!  He says it's something we should have discussed (true) and now he's going to have to sleep on the couch until something new arrives (also true) . . .

Re: Latex - 2 layers vs 3 layers - KimberlyH

Randy,

The Flobeds come with either two or three base layers.  The base layers are three inches each.  These can be swapped out as many times as you want during the 90 day period.  In addition to the two or three base layers, Flobeds come with a soft two inch convoluted latex top layer.

Here is the two-base layer bed:

Here is the three-base layer bed:

There are two methods used to manufacture latex.  One is called the Dunlop method and one is called the Talalay method.

Talalay latex is available either as 100% natural latex from the rubber tree or as blended latex, which is a blend of 100% natural latex and...

Thanks for the note on Flobeds.  I also came across Savvy and then seem to have high quality and a good price.

Hi John-
After researching for about 4 weeks, I finally ordered our bed on Saturday from Savvy Rest. I felt we really needed Dunlop, and if it turns out to be too firm, we can exchange for Talalay because they sell both. (Flobeds doesn't).

It costs more than SleepEZ, but after talking, at length, to both companies, my gut said to go with Savvy Rest. (although $600 more for our king w/foundation)

Savvy's owner, Michael Penny, is  helpful/ friendly, and he really seems to care about his products. And all his customer reps are informed as well. Everyone is helpful/friendly.

Because we need firm support for a bad back, we went with Dunlop as companies that sell both Dunlop & Talalay seem to say Dunlop has a more...
