Is it true that the S Co's are all going to mostly pocket coils now? - jimsocal
Apr 9, 2011 12:03 PM
First time I have been in a mattress store for years. I walked in and there was no one there and I was able to talk to the mattress salesman for 15 min. or so while I laid on a few mattresses. Mostly I just went in to see what was selling these days because frankly, for me, laying on mattresses in a store does me no good. I can tell if they're too soft (most are) but other than that it's a waste of time. I have to spend several nights on a mattress before I can get a sense of how it supports or does not support my body.

What I found most interesting is that the sales man told me (not sure if it's true... maybe Budgy or another mattress insider can tell me) that almost all the Big S companies are switching over to...

Re: Post surgery advice - Stearns and Foster Plaza Ambassador with PICS - twalkman

I did surgery on a S&F from about the same time that developed massive depressions (although still 30% away from what the manufacturer considered defective). I found that the quilted pillowtop cover was the biggest reason for the depressions. I had planned on keeping it. The eggcrate foam was the next biggest reason.

I would just recommending ordering foam in thinner slices - nothing more than 2" and 1" slices for getting the final adjustments right. You may need different solutions for each side of the bed since there is such a big weight difference between you.

If you are looking for info on latex mattresses, I would start by reading this link:  http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/forum/my-mattress-arrived/15666-A-1.html

There are many posts in this link and it may take some time but it might be worth it.  It is mainly about his mattress and how he came to design and where he bought it.  There are other places too and some of his other posts include recommendations on toppers and mattress stores on line.  Flobeds, Sleepez and Custom Sleep Design are all respected latex places which have had many recommendations for latex.

Make sure you click on "all" below the first question to make sure you see all the posts from the beginning.  This thread by Phoenix is one of the most researched mattress purchases I have seen in over a year of reading this forum.  Phoenix is no longer here but he left a wealth of...

I'm no Einstein but 7 inches of poly foam doesn't sound like latex foam.  Putting good latex on top of poly foam would seem to mean that when the 7 inches of poly foam starts sagging in about 9 months or so, the top layers of latex will sag too.  Seems very expensive to me for 9 months worth of sleeping.  You could buy some very nice all latex mattresses for that money.   I think you have to have a good base to support latex, not some cheap poly foam.  Without a good solid base, sleeping on top of only a couple of inches of latex make no sense to me.   But then again, maybe I don't get it.  Also, anything discounted that much must be way overpriced in the first place.   I wouldn't touch it.  There is a wealth of information on this forum.

New to mattress shopping - know what I like - I would love your help!!!! - idlovehelp

Hi!!

I am so happy to find this forum. I'm new to mattress shopping and visited 3 stores recently (two sleepys). Learned I like individual coils, so the bed doesn't sink when someone sleeps next to me. I have a herniated disc, sciatica for long and recently neck troubles - yikes! so I like a firm bed. But, I do like something cushiony too. :) I'm 5' 3'', less than 120lbs, young. And my friend, he's twice my weight and tall. OK... I started with kingcoil in the $400s, and after many mattresses they showed me stearns and fosters with cushion top the firm side - which I liked best, and then kingsdown 400 red which I liked even better. I do have a budget but also want to get the perfect bed since it is an important purchase :)

At the next store, they converted my thinking...

I've checked out that mattress several times (trying out mattresses on my lunch break), and I really liked it.  It's kinda firm, but that's my thing.  Funny though, I always thought that it was ~99% latex--I didn't know there was a 7" poly foam core; making this a pricey bed @ $2.4K.  I'd find a Pure Latex Bliss if I had that budget for a mattress.  There's quite a few custom latex-mattress shops online as well.  As an example, I had a really good experience with Arizona Premium Mattress Co (see: http://www.mattresses.net/eastern-king-ultra-plush-latex-set.html).

Good luck on your new journey/mission....

In the market for a new mattress (king).  Think we've settled on a latex foam.  Tried out a model at Macy's that seemed quite comfortable and was hoping to get your opinion on it.  Thanks in advance!

Tempurpedic vs. traditional coil mattress - kalash
Mar 11, 2011 11:55 AM
My wife and I have been using a Sealy Posturepedic for the last 8 years.  It is a Lighthouse Plush model, likely no longer produced.  I suppose they consider it "plush," which means between firm and medium, but maybe closer to firm (but not the firmest they make).  Anyway, I've been relatively happy with it, at least for the first 5 years or so . I have low back issues, and I prefer a supportive mattress.  Well, over the last 3 years, my back issues have worsened, and I've noticed that the mattress is less supportive.  The visible depression where we normally lie down isn't terribly noticeable, but when you lie down you can tell that the area where most of our weight is sinks down more than when it was new.  Also, when we lie close together, you get a sloping effect.

So I'm in the market...

I own a miralux maestro cushion firm pillow top and would not trade it for the world. I had back problems for over 2 decades and this is the first mattress that help me solve my terrible sleeping problems. Would recommend a miralux mattress to anyone looking for a good nights rest. Mack
