Anyone bought a Sealy Posturepedic Excitement Plush that can recommend it? - shovel99
Sep 18, 2011 5:33 PM
HI Folks,

I am about to give up mattress surgery and try another mattress.  My continuous coil Sealy reserve springs don't have enough accommodation for my side sleep, and combos of latex, memory and PU are just not cutting it.

I demoed two 2011 models at MattressFirm today.... with individiual pocketed coils, titanium progressive spring system:  Irresistable Tight Top Cusion Firm... which felt very good and not that different from the Excitement Plush.  According to the sales person, the tags and the website, the Plush has thinner coils and .79 inch of latex on top + 1 inch of PU, + 2x .75 inch of "Core" (more PU).

The cusion firm has 2 inches of PU on top.  I still have a boatload of 1 inch toppers.... 14 ILD, 20 ILD latex, 4 lb mem foam, 5 lb mem foam, 5.3lb mem foam, supersoft...

I have to agree with montana. Tempurpedic spends almost 300 million on ads. They have so many 1800 phone numbers. They advertise heavily. All that money could be better used by having lower prices but it is opposite!

Cloud is only 8 inch. Just a few inches of visco and rest is their special poly foam. It is not suitable for most people. In fact, most tempurpedics have only a few inches of their special foam, rest is poly foam. They also sleep hot. So be prepared for high utility bills in summer. Along with the sinking dollars feeling you will sink in the tempurpedic! Many people don't like that. Would you want yourself be deep in a hot piece of sponge like foam? I rather not.

Ok, so a king size TP Grand Bed (their most expensive) with fixed foundation would be $8k plus tax .... you got 'em on that count.

Ever heard of Hastens?  How about Kluft?  How about you check the prices on some of their high end beds.  Nevermind .... Hastens makes a bed, I think Vividus that is $54,000 as I recall.

At least start by reading the Tempurpedic web site.  The don't like to call it 'memory foam' like everyone else does because they hold that their Tempur material is proprietary, they mfr. it, and no one else makes it quite like they do.

btw, their entry level models like Cloud aren't all that much more than something from Serta, Sealy or Simmons.  And I'll tell ya, even though the Cloud is only 8" thick, it seems to be a darn good 8".

I actually sell Icomforts, the way the Genius is made does make for a much more firm bed than all of the other Icomforts.  If you like firm, but wish still for great support you might try the Insight.  We've had the Genius in for a short period of time, but most prefer the Insight over it.

Also, for others thinking the boxes are dipping, making sure you have a good solid frame.  If you were sold a new one, make sure all connections are made and tightly done.  Almost anytime we see a problem it's frame related.  I realize there are a lot of dealers out there, and lots of information, some bad and some good, but our practice is to provide a very heavy duty frame for...

I know they put them on the Serta stabl base box spring foundations.  I had one of those foundations with my iComfort and the twin XL foundation had an 8" gap between vertical support rods all down the center of bed, head to toe.  There are a couple rods that run the length head to toe, but they have no vertical support under there.

If you're really keen, you can feel the foundation surface and tell the vertical rod pattern - There's a rounded edge that goes down to the cross slats.  If you feel a big gap in those rounded edges all down center of bed, I say it will sag.  You'll have to pull mattress off obviously and salesman might look at you a bit weird.

100% positive my foundation sagged about 1/2" right in the hips / butt area.

Want to know what we found in our Sterns and Foster Mattress? - nightowl720

5 Yrs ago, my husband and I spent close to $3000 on a Sterns and Foster king size mattress and box spring set. We thought this brand was the "best of the best" WRONG!!!

Within 6 months, we had sagging. My husband and I are not overweight. You could see the "dips' even when the bed was made. We paid the warrenty guy to come out ($99) and was told our dips were only 1 inch deep and to get the mattress replaced they had to be 1 1/2 inches. It got so bad that I have been sleeping either on the couch or in our guest bedroom all summer. The bed in the guest room is a $400 Simmons set I bought 11 yrs ago. No sagging and still very comfortable.

Afraid to buy another bed and get ripped off again, we...

Decent Innerspring Mattress + Talalay Latex Topper - Where to find topper?? - KennyH
Sep 12, 2011 11:02 PM
Hi,

I currently have a flotation mattress (soft-sided waterbed) and have pretty major back pain. So I think it's time to replace. I need the support of a good firm mattress, but cannot sleep at all on anything hard (hence my flotation bed).

Since I really don't know what's going to work yet, I want as much flexibility as possible. And unfortunately I can't afford a really top-of-the-line mattress right now, so I have to get 'creative' with about $1000-$1300 or so if possible.

It seems like getting a decent innerspring mattress with good firm support, maybe a mid-level pocketed-coil like Simmons or Stress-O-Pedic (local brand) would be the most recommended for support. Anyone concur here or have recommendations?

Then I could top it off with a decently thick 100% natural Talalay latex topper to give the comfort and pressure point relief...

As opposed to which industrialized country?

Fact is Tempur-Pedic and their infomercials created the memory foam mattress market.

No one believed consumers would pay $2k for a foam mattress until Tempur-Pedic because consumers identified foam with cheap products like disposable cups and packaging material. Without Tempur-Pedic and their infomercials there would not be the option of buying low priced generic memory foam mattresses.

It is a free country,at least for a little while longer.

You can  buy a generic memory foam mattress or inner spring mattress for a few hundred bucks or spend $50k on  a mattress.

Whatever you are willing and able to spend.

These comments are pretty far from what I'm experiencing -

Yeah, so the regular Cloud is 'only' 8" thick.  So what?  I had an 11.75" thick iComfort Revolution.  It had a whopping 5.75" of memory foam (even though Serta clearly advertises 4.75" memory foam).  You imply more memory foam equates to a higher value / better mattress.  Really?  I sank like a stone down into that Revolution.  Everyone in the household who laid on the Revolution sank too far into it.  Also, it slept hot.  Hotter than this Cloud for sure.  And my neck was tweaked after about 2 weeks.

So, if you want to compare, say, an icomfort Revolution to a Cloud Supreme.  $1600 for twin icomfort set.  I think $2450...

I have a Simmons Beautyrest that was supposed to be top of the line.  It is now sagging in the middle, and I don't even sleep in the middle.  I actually sleep on one side of the bed like if two people were in the bed, but I sleep alone.  I had a car accident a few years ago and have had back trouble ever since.  I am not sleeping well in my present bed, and it's not really that old.  I sleep better when I am in a good hotel that has good-quality, firm mattresses than I do at home.  Heck, I even sleep better on the couch than I do in my bed!  So I have been looking.

Someone suggested the Serta beds that were on sale at Big Lots.  They said they bought one and loved it better than their much more expensive bed.  I...
