Re: Compare latex mattresses - EcoCloud, CozyPure, FloBed, and even Simmons Black Viola - Lynn2006

I have a FloBeds all natural Talalay Latex except for the bottom two Super Firm 44 - 46 ILD latex cores that are the blended Talalay Latex.  Most of my Talalay Latex Cores are 37 ILD which is very Firm.  I have a 1" topper since the 2" topper was too thick for someone like me who is not quite 5 feet tall and petite in weight as as well height.  I love my cover.  The first cover sent was not as nice but since it had a tiny rip in it, I called Dave and he told  me to wait until all my pieces of latex were selected with exchanges and he would exchange it postage paid with a new topper and then I could also send back which legs I do not want since he sent me a few sizes to see what I would like due to...

I tend to think you're right since I had that similar issue with the Marshall coils I slept on. My lower back is what bothered me the most. I felt like the springs were just not holding me up. My mattress guy tried a couple of other things to no avail, until he decided it just had to be the springs. He was right. LuraFlex still helps with decreased motion as do the pocketed coils. But they just feel stronger and more supportive under my back. Even when I took off my latex/foam layers and put my hands on the coils, they just seem to "give" too much. The wire gauge is just too thin for me.

One thing though. I slept one on a Westin Heavenly Bed which is a Simmons Beautyrest with those pocketed coils and LOVED IT! Now I'm not sure because it was just one night, or...
Anyone tried a Select Comfort or similar air type mattress? - jimsocal

I have a friend who swears by his Select Comfort although admittedly he never had any sleep issues such as back pain.
He even bought one for his parents and says they love it too.
I think they seem very over-priced but if it gave me a good night's sleep with less back pain the price would not be an issue.

Just curious if anyone here has ever tried one of these?...

I do believe that is exactly what I need to do!  I do NOT want to buy another bed and trash this one.  I've returned TWO Restonics and gave away a 3 1/2 month old  Stearns and Foster in the last year alone.  Before that I gave away a nearly new latex mattress and a Select Comfort(to the kids, at least).  Ridiculous.  I'm at a point that if somebody sells me another new, expensive mattress that doesn't work, I'm going to see red!
I just looked up your bedmaker...I used to live in Santa Cruz!   How fun!  Figures that a really good bedmaker would be there, LOL!  I'll have to take a road trip.
The reason I think it is the springs is that is the only part of this bed I haven't changed out.  Also, I have had good nights sleep on spring mattresses when I've been out of town. ...

I have been in the bed buying/replacing cycle for quite awhile now.  My main problem is low back pain when I awake.  I finally have cut open my Stress-O-Pedic bed and changed the insides.  I have come to the conclusion that the most important thing to consider is the part of the mattress that supports you...the springs.(YES I have had a latex mattress which did sag after a few years, and I also had a Select Comfort which the kids now own, both don't work for me).  This mattress has a Marshall unit, individually wrapped coils of a 14.5 gauge wire, seems to be 3-5 turns each.  This is the part of the bed that is letting my back down.
What seems to happen is that unless there is pressure pushing up from underneath you, the body sinks and just lays there.  As my butt is the heaviest part of me(and...
Help deciding on slatted bed base - Edward
Sep 21, 2008 11:03 AM
I'm currently sleeping on a borrowed bed that has a lousy spiral bed base and a very old mattress, which are starting to hurt my back. I recently visited a local Ikea and found the latex sultan elsfjord mattress quite comfortable and within my budget. Now I need to decide on a bed base... I do want a slatted bed base, but I have some trouble deciding on which one.
I stumbled upon this site while looking for info on latex mattresses and reckoned there might be someone here who could give me some advice on this matter :)

These are my picks, they both cost 90 euro's:

Ikea's 'sultan laxeby:'
42 slats of layer-glued birch, divided into 5 comfort zones
8 slats in the centre section are adjustable to give your body just the right support.
7 slats in the shoulder section are adjustable to give your body just the right support.

Re: For people who buy expensive ($1500+) latex etc mattresses; have you tried cheaper foam mattresses ? - DuLL_ExIsTeNz

There are always going to be people that run into a situation of a poor (and expensive) choice.  I've reviewed quite a bit of the information regarding latex mattresses specifically on this site, and I can't say that I've seen a lot of cases where the mattress performance is diminishing quickly.   Do you have specific examples?  I'm curious as to the brands mentioned.

I can speak for others, but I certainly tried mattresses in virtually all price ranges, as well as many mattress types.  The cheapest, for a king, was ~$450, and the most expensive was ~$12000.  I probably laid on 75 mattresses total before deciding that latex felt the best.  After laying on quite a few latex mattresses, I made a compromise on price vs quality and warranty.  I certainly did subjective and objective comparisons between all mattresses I tried before making my decision.

I'm glad you had good...

To BillB:  Thanks for the info!  Unfortunately, I read it after I had already made a purchase.  I know what you mean about affecting the feel of the latex... I'm hoping that I don't end up disappointed with the results.  Below is an update.  Oh, by the way, I love your setup!  Great pictures, a very informative post.  I was thinking of doing something very similar, but really wanted dual adjustable firmness and a generous return policy in case I don't like it.  Keep us updated as your experience continues.

I reviewed some existing posts, and decided on a National Allergy Supply mattress encasing (the high end model, hoping I "get what I pay for").

I'm approaching the purchase of my flobed as I would any other mattress - it's function is to provide both comfort and support.  Layers can (and probably should) be added to suit the user.  I understand...

I had a Select Comfort for about 5 years and would say my experience was similar to pondkoi.  I had a lower end version but it really did not seem to support my body the way I needed it to.  I got rid of it because of lower back pain as well.  I tried memory foam after that.  It was better but still not the answer.  I just ordered the latex Flobed and am hopeful it will be my last bed purchase for a long time!...

This Thursday they come to pick up my Select Comfort bed that I have had since November. We bought the 9000 model in a king size spending over $5000 for it. In the store it was pretty comfortable. They showed us our pressure points on a screen and how by increasing and decreasing the air they would change. The first night there was an air leak in my air chamber so I ran the tests and called them. They sent another set out and extended my 30 day warranty period to 60 days. I contacted them several different times about the air pressure changing quite a bit. In reading the material I saw where depending on the weather, the air in the chambers can go up or down. Mine went up as much as 15 and down as much as 10 on a given day. When I asked about this...
