I happened to be looking at a Stearns and Foster 97% latex mattress just for fun (I was really there to look at their Intellicoil pocket coils which are made from one wire twisted into a spring within a spring; very ingenious design). Anyway as I was trying out the latex mattress a representative from S&F was there and asked me if I had any questions! Boy, did I! I am sure he did not expect to encounter someone who was well-versed in latex specs and who in all honesty probably knows more about it than he did.
However, he made the claim that natural latex will NOT last as long as synthetic latex (i.e. retain it's positive properties). I said I had heard different and was...

Sealy is now using a titanium spring which is going to feel different than steel. They also are now using pocket coils in their latest midrange and higher end Posturepedics.
As to the Simmons problem I would recommend this:
Call the mattress store you last bought from and ask them for the number of their Simmons representative. If they won't give it to you call around to other stores. Someone will eventually give it to you, I think.
Once you have it be very nice and ask very nicely if he can help you figure it out. Have the info on your tag ready to give him...

- what do you base that comment on that cheap spring system would probably not provide better support than all latex core?
- how do you identify a cheap spring system vs. good? I've read on this forum around a 12.5 gauge is good, but thats about all I know about springs.
- is it possible to buy just a set of springs somewhere, then put latex toppers on top of it and wrap it all up in a mattress cover? would that work? would it be too squeaky or unstable?anyone try it?"

We just received our SleepEz mattress today so if it works out, we'll stick with that and skip the springs. I do need to find a foundation as my next step though, right now its just on the floor. But, if I find myself needing an innerspring, I'll be sure to check out the Stearns and Foster pocket coils you mention.
with you being in socal (as I am), I wonder if you've checked out Room and Board's mattresses and what you think of their mattresses in general and their "encased coils" specifically?
On the downside, their selection is small and their main business is furniture not mattresses, but what they do offer looks pretty nice. I tried their latex mattress in the store once and it was comfortable. they also have an "encased coil" with what looks to be...

This is a post i wanted to make on here because i just want people to know that this (new) bed that stearns and foster has had out for about a year now is good in some aspects and really bad in other areas of manufacturing there beds.
My wife and purchased the springbrook queen bed from stearns and foster for around 2300 and within three weeks we already were sagging down on our hips and waking up with severe lower back problems. the bed in the showroom felt as if it would be almost to firm that is why we bought it, because...

I had a chance to go by a mattress store this evening that had a couple of mostly latex setups. They had the Sealy Embody and a new line from Stearns & Foster - Luxury Latex collection. This line is not on their website yet, but the one I liked the best was this one: http://www.gotomattress.com/p-515-stearns-foster-italian-garden-villa-plush-mattress.aspx I still want to do a DIY setup to save money, but I'm wondering if the makeup of this mattress will help inform my decision on the components to get.
The S&F is made as follows: 8.75" Smart Latex w/ Interlock Support System, Comfort Layer - 1" HD Supersoft Foam, 1.5" x .5" Convuluted Hypersoft layer, with a 1" Hypersoft quilt. This mattress felt very supportive with just the right amount of support. It is labeled as Plush, but...
