If it's a pillowtop, then yes is will show where you sleep. I believe that is the idea. Soft foams conforming to your body. If your expecting it not to show impressions then buy a bed with minimal foam layers and add/replace toppers as necessary. I overheard a sales gal once at a mattress place say this; 'If your bed doesn't show where you lay in 6 months, give us a call, there's something wrong with it'. It was a pillowtop....

It depends on your definition of a high quality mattress. I bought a Simmons Beautirest World Class that lasted about 9 months before it started to sag and causes back pain for my wife and me. It is more important to buy a bed that is durable and comfortable than one that is a name brand at a big box store or mattress chain. But then again if you want to buy a new one every year or so, anything comfortable will do. Having a latex topper on a bad mattress won't help much. Plush and pillowtop are the most likely to fail early....

Rusty,
I'm in a similar situation as you, but my latex mattress is new from SleepEz. 8.5 inches thick. currently on the floor as we try to figure out what foundation to get.
I've tried various configurations of the layers using soft/med/firm, more firm, more soft, etc layers. it doesnt seem to make a difference - my lower back hurts all the time and my right shoulder has developed a very bad constant pain since sleeping on this mattress. i sleep in multiple positions - back, sides, semi-stomach....
the frustating thing is I sleep fine on an inexpensive firm, older innerspring Simmons at my Mom's house. no back or shoulder pain from it. i feel frustrated for spending so much money and doing so much research to end up w/a mattress that isn't very comfortable for me...
I'm also confused on what...

We recently replaced a serta king size pillow top, with a stearns and foster pillow top... we only bought the s&f mattress and used the box springs from the serta.. why? because the serta was only about 10 months old (give or take.. maybe a year). The sales guy said box springs are box springs. as long as they are not damaged - any box springs would be the same as the next.. is that true?
I know the serta mattress weighs about 50 lbs, where the s&f weighs about 150 lbs. Just wondering if investing in the s&f box springs is worth it?
The typical box springs vary a little bit.
Most 'S' brands seem to use Leggett and Platt innards, their 'semi-flex'...

Hey Dallasgirl,
If it comes to it, maybe try the above posters suggestions for a hybrid bed with springs, latex and / or memory foam. I saw a pretty interesting one a few months ago from Simmons. I know it had springs and memory foam. Just a thought.
Good luck!

As said in the other post, ALL foam soften up a little when you have a body laying on them all night long. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, you wouldn't want your mattress to have exactly the same feel forever as the day it arrives at your house. Let me compare the Stearns and Foster vs. Tempurpedic.
Stearns and Foster 'Hearthstone' plush arrived at my house brand new $1115 set w/ tax twin XL. It had give and cushiness the first days or so. It was ok. First half hour or hour laying on it was alright. After that, and by morning, it sucked. What I figure is the cheap batting in the quilt and possibly cheap, lighweight foam didn't do it's job for more than a week.
The Tempurpedic came in brand new and was kinda fimer than the store, but I liked it. I broke in over several days...

Simmons Pemberton Mattress - is this a good one? - kkb1997mu

Hi
I am looking to purchase a Simmons Pemberton Plush pillowtop King Mattress from Macy's. I am a side sleeper so need a more plush mattress. I currently have a luxury firm that is way too hard and makes my body ache each day.
Mattress says it has 1,024 coil density and 15.5 coil gauge. Is this good?
What is PurFoam?
I also had a bed that had too much pillowtop and made huge dents even after 30 days. Will this mattress sag and have body impressions?
Thanks!

Coil density is relative to the other beds from that manufacturer. The coil gauge sounds like it is average and , depending on being tempered or not, should give you good support. Let me give you an example of the first comment to help:
In Simmons Beuatyrest beds, they have had 6 model lines for awhile; Studio, Classic, Anniversary, World Class, Excepsionale and Black. Note the differences below: (specs are in a queen size and all coils use high carbon steel)
- Studio: 713 coils, 6" coil, 13 gauge and no added edge support
- Classic: 800 coils, 8" coil, 15-1/1 gauge throughout with 2 rows of 13 gauge on the left and right for edge support (firm option maybe 13 gauge throughout)
- Anniversary: 850 coils, 8" coil, 15-1/2 gauge with a 3" foam edge all the way...

Well it seems that I have read complaints about the poor quality if the icomfort foundation and outgassing issues. Can anyone advise me about the Simmons Comforpedic "Phenom" made for Sleepy's? The 12 inch thick mattress is supposed to is supposed to be the same as theSimmons Harmony with the Sleepy's label on it. I am trying to compare this to the icomfort Revolution, but I cannot find a store that displays both beds. Any good info would be appreciated, thanks....
