Phoenix, seems as if you have a low opinion of the "S" brands and I did at one time myself. However 3 months ago I purchased a Sealy Springfree Garden Vine Latex king for $800 including boxspring and frame.. That has been the best $800 I've spent. It has a 8.9 inch synthetic latex core under 3 inches of Sealy Super Foam. This mattres has alleviated all of my back and hip pain from a 10 year old mattress. I am a very heavy guy and don't think I could have made a better choice for $800.

Please come back here and report on how you like your Sealy after 1 year.

Even if you get 1 year without back pain, though, that would be...

I don't know anything about this mattress, but I don't think the major S brands do the best job on latex.  Read this recent post about a Simmons latex.   This is one thing I could find on a springfree constuction.  I am not too excited about the Sealy foam and the high perfomance foam.  It is also not clear what the quality of the latex is.  Is it all synthetic?  A blend?  You try to find out exactly what is in it and the type of latex.

Personally I would prefer a latex that can be customized and you know what of latex is going in and there are no cheap PU foams (which Sealy foam is).

Sounds like that salesperson lied to you or doesn't have a clue about what they are selling. Sealy does not make a talalay latex mattress. They only use synthetic dunlop for their latex and it is mainly in the core for their Springfree line. It is not latex all the way through. They also use a poly core in at least one model in the Springfree line with about an inch or so of synthetic latex so just make sure you know which one you are looking at. In the new Embody line they use a poly core with synthetic dunlop latex on top. Even though it has a poly core it sounds like the technology makes more sense since I think it might resist sagging a bit better due to the latex being on the top where you lay and not the bottom....
Down to 3 latex choices need help deciding - Mike22

Well, I have been searching for information that would ultimately lead me to choose the right mattress. While I have found a lot of useful information, I have also found a lot of choices. I've narrowed them down, but I would like your thoughts before I decide. For reference I will be getting a king size mattress. My choices are Sleepez 10,000, a Sealy Springfree Beachside on clearance, or a Sealy Springfree Seacliff Heights, which is the new model for the Beachside. The Sleepez 10,000 with a foundation bought locally would be about $2000. The Sealy Beachside is on clearance for $1400 after tax. Because it's on clearance they said it does not come with a warranty, but I would think that the manufacturer would still honor it, not sure though. The Sealy Seacliff Heights is the same as the Beachside, just a different cover and costs $2200 after tax....

Synthetic latex vs. Polyurethane foam - Mike22
May 31, 2010 4:06 PM
I am still searching for the right bed and have narrowed it down to a few a like. It seems like the best option would be one of the online choices of latex mattresses, but I am a little hesitant to buy without being able to lay on them. One of the mattresses I found is a Sealy Springfree Beachside and has a synthetic latex core, the other is a Lotus Asana plush made by PranaSleep and that one has a poly core with two inches of latex on top . My question is, since they are both made from chemicals will there be much of a difference in durability or is the synthetic latex still better. I am still considering a Simmons Black coil mattress, but would really like to give foam a try. Let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks.

"Phoenix, seems as if you have a low opinion of the "S" brands and I did at one time myself."

In general terms absolutely ... and I think that low opinion is shared by most in this forum ... including those who have sold these brands over many years.

Having said that ... you will see from my previous posts that I believe that the latex models in these brands (they all have some) are among their better values. Much of this forum is about "duplicating" some of these at a much lower price without the polyfoams that they often include (including the garden vine and the rest of the springfree series to a greater or lesser degree). The springfree series has been discontinued and replaced with the embody series although they remain available in some places so it may be quite possible to get them...

That's too bad. IBC has an origins line which is their latex line so it would have been nice if you could try them. I guess you're back to holder. Have you talked to them on the phone? At least we know thay have all latex mattresses and latex top mattresses and I'm guessing they have decent prices.

Failing that, I would either

1. Widen your search a bit to neighboring states and then do most of the work on the phone before you take any trips.

or

2. Go to local mattress stores and lay on mattresses that are mostly latex (Sealy springfree if you can find them or embody, Serta pure response, or Simmons natural care  and natural care elite, or any other latex mattress that they carry that has mostly latex in the top). Do most of the work...

SleepEZ joy! - Sharon

18 Months ago hubby and I came to the conclusion that we had to change our 15yr old lumpy, innerspring mattress.  After much research, I was sold on latex, and SleepEZ with the ability to change up the layers, seemed like the best choice to me.  Dear hubby however, was not prepared to spend that amount of $$$ on something he was not able to try, and given the fact that we're on the other side of the country, that was out of the question.  He called around and found the Sealy Springfree line and suggested we try them out.  I did a bit of research, and it seemed that most people were happy with them.  We landed up choosing the Beachside as a compromise 'cause hubby likes firm, and I like soft.  Well, time has passed and we're so unhappy with the mattress.  It has developed dips on each...

If nothing else, if you make it clear that you've been doing your homework (a few hours reading at this site) their "countermeasure" might be to sell you the same mattress for a lot less. Just make an agreement with yourself that you will buy nothing until you've taken your notes and come back and researched your notes before you buy. If their "countermeasure" is to offer you the mattress at an incredible, amazing, unbelievable, once in a lifetime, but time limited price if you buy before leaving the store ..... run away really really fast. That's assuming that you even want their mattress at any price once you gather some good information.

If the brand starts with an "S" ... you may want to run away regardless.
