Call me skeptical but again I look for real world examples of how blended latex is somehow more durable than natural rubber.  All I am saying is that comparing the two different materials natural rubber should be more durable in almost all circumstances, I have yet to see a logical scientific explanation of how blended somehow could be more durable, I do understand that composite materials often times get the benefit of both source materials, but this is not always universally true.  And of all the hundreds of latex matts our company has sold we have had few problems but the only ones we ever had were with blended talalay latex from latex international and dunlopillo.  Considering people in Europe have been using 100% natural rubber core beds for a long time and that we know how ridiculously durable some of these beds are, even just arguing that blended is...

Hey Budgy,

Not asking this to be controversial or at all grumpy- just asking as I continue my own search. As you've probably read, I too had had problems with a pillow top bed (no surprise there- lesson learned- just wish I'd found this board before that mistake). I love everything about latex on paper, but in real life I just could not adjust to the 'push back'- but, I think I had an all latex from SleepEZ that ultimately was just too firm. And, while I do love the 'cush' of a nice memory foam, our Sealy Embody is mushing on us far too quickly :( That is unfortunate, bc I loved the feel of this mattress for a few months and now it's just so so. Many mornings I have pretty bad back...

Roy...what kind of mattress do you suggest?  Memory foam is the only material out there that doesn't have some of the 'pushback' that you are describing...and it softened on the OP....

Explain to me if I am wrong on any of these points -

Cheap poly foam breaks down quickly, it sags and softens and is generally poor quality.

Latex provides 'pushback' and no pressure relief whatsoever (even though there are many that would disagree with this) and there fore is also no good.

Memory foam softens and is also no good.

So what kind of mattresses are we left with?  Beds with no foam of any kind...Hastens, Vi-Spring, Lavital?

Re: sleeping hot: claiming that the mattress itself is not the culprit -- that it's all about bedding and room temperature -- is utter nonsense.

I have discovered this the hard way.  Just purchased a new mattress (the saga is documented here on several posts), and it is definitely much warmer than my previous mattress or any other mattress I've tried.  In fact, with my old mattress, as long as I didn't use too many covers, I was fine.  It was only when I bought a new, thick mattress cover, that I felt the bed get warmer.  So whatever material was in the mattress cover, it was a problem.

Our new, Stearns and Foster latex plush pillowtop is a whole different deal.  The...

I have not made a comment for sometime.  I continue to frequent this forum, but I will  only comment when I feel I have something to contribute.  The Vi-Spring Elite and Coronet are their opening models.  They represent Vi-Spring at tremendous values.  They have the same handcraftmanship and lifetime warranty that the $34,000 models have.  They are intentionally under priced to introduce the difference a mattress of this quality can make to someones sleep and thus improve their overall health.  They are still available in dual firmnesses and there are 4 firmness levels.  They are all natural and 2 sided.  With the outertuffting and hand side stitching they will truly last a lifetime.  They will sleep cooler than virtually any other all natural mattress.  There is no horse hair in either model.  The Elite uses a total of 22 lbs. of British fleece wool/cotton blend in...

In need of a king mattress. We are replaceing a 12 yr. old pillowtop that is like sleeping in a taco shell !! I looked at the Vi-Spring yesterday. The price is much higher

than I thought but I'd like to go no higher than 5,000. I am a side sleeper, 5'7" 120 and hubby is 6'3" and 220, side as well. I'm thinking of getting a medium because I couldn't

tell much difference in the medium and the firm. I'm afraid of getting the firm - might be too firm. Also is there anything else on the market (in Houston TX) that is decent and

will last for years?  I've been reading and it seems every other...

#sleeptight - I noticed you said it seemed softer then in the showroom. Can I ask what what sort of frame you have it placed on the matching Divan from Vi-Spring or do you have it on sitting European slats?

The mattress is very heavy I know we have two Vi-Spring Magnificence we bought in 2005 and a Sublime we just bought today but, moving on.

When we bought them we tried it on the European Slats they can't support it's weight and yours. We went an bought a divan for it the next day & have been Very pleased with all of them!

P.S. Sorry to hear it took eight weeks for you to receive it, there really is no excuse for that.

Hello Dallasgirl,

Personally I think that if the pushback of all latex was too strong for you, or too harsh so to speak.  Than its hard to imagine springs and latex being better.  The pushback effect of latex has to do with its elasticity and resiliency.  Steel is the most elastic material there is that is used in mattresses (chrome steel is more elastic, and amorphous metal, or 'liquid metal' is even more elastic), it is hard to imagine that springs and latex would work.  Perhaps an incredibly high spring count pocket coil with thinner steel used, although with latex on top its hard to imagine it would still be an improvement.  This is why I mention stuff like Vi-Spring or Lavital.  The cushioning materials...

"Pillowtop-ectomy" advice for a newbie? - Warrigal

Hi everyone - I found this forum several weeks ago after I could no longer ignore the nightly beating my current mattress was giving me. WOW - you all are such a great resource, I only wish I had found this forum two years ago prior to my mattress purchase. Well, I've been making up for lost time and devouring threads on here for the last few weeks, exploring webpages for retail stores and online sources, and I think I'm finally ready to ask a few questions.

Background: very unfortunately for us, two years ago we paid about $1600 for a Serta Vera Wang "Toast" Eurotop "with latex" (queen). Body impressions were noticeable after a year or so but they have gotten progressively worse over the past year, with an uncomfortabely ridge in the middle. (Of course they're only an inch, and the warranty is...
