Re: Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme vs. Costco Ara 13" Pillow Top Visco Foam - sandman

I would be concerned that the Ara would be pretty soft.  Not sure if that is what you are looking for.  Over 6" of memory foam on top is a fair amount.    Soft can feel comfortable, but cause back issues for some people. The Celeste is pretty firm, and the 10" Emma is somewhere in between.   You can also try calling Sleep Science for info. of the 10".

Ten years ago we bought a Sealy Posturepedic Camillo Plush. It was among the last crop of SCo flippable mattresses and we have really liked it. After traveling we're always happy to be back home on our own bed. It's not as if it ELIMINATES my back and neck troubles... but they're far worse on other mattresses. Plus, it's a double and we just bought a new queen-sized bed.

It's crazy, but my wife and I just "retired" a 15-year old Sealy Posturepedic queen mattress and boxspring set. It was flippable and still slept pretty darn well. Despite it being a pillowtop, there are no visible craters or depressions in it. Crazy. Guess they just don't make 'em like they used to.

I went to mattress stores twice this weekend and kept going back and forth between Cloud and...

Pianoman, I appreciate your response and suggestions! I had seen some of those other threads but missed the one about the Emma.

As I understand it from this forum, the major properties of latex seem to be that it is more antimicrobial (hypoallergenic?), does not wear out as fast as coil or foam mattresses, and has more "spring" to it than memory foam or Tempur-pedic. The longevity isn't as important a factor as whether I like the feel of something, and thus far, I haven't ever *seen* any latex mattresses. None of the salespeople in the mattress stores have even mentioned them, although they were happy to show us a range of traditional and Tempur-pedic. The closest I have come is a 3" square of latex on a Tempur-pedic display used for comparison. I do like the Tempur-pedic/MF "sinking feeling," like melting into a bed and being comfortable...

Re: What do you think about Sleep Science Memory foam mattress? - Phoenix

Couple of comments.

Comparing the Dr Breuse or a latex mattress to a memory foam mattress can be a little misleading. I seriously doubt though that the Dr Breus even could be called a latex mattress since it probably (almost certainly) has a fair bit of poly in the top where it counts. I also doubt that what it feels like is indicative of what a decent latex mattress feels like. If you want a more appropriate latex testing ground at Sleepy's then the latex bliss would be a much better representation of a "latex mattress". No matter what you found using Sleepy's as a testing ground ... I would seriously look at your many other options if you are thinking about using them as anything but a way to test different materials.

The Sleep Science has a LOT (6.5") of memory foam in it and...

HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT MATTRESS...no, I'm NOT trying to sell you anything - Bruce_G

Hi, my name is Bruce and I have worked in the mattress industry for 12 years now.  Many years on the retail side of the bedding business taught be that a mattress can be the most difficult piece of furniture to pick out for your home.  There are several major contributing factors to this:

  • The sheer variety of mattresses found on the market (tens of thousands of options...brand name is essentially a worthless metric)
  • Misleading sales people (the ones who work off straight commission want to sell you the item THEY make the most $ on...big chain stores tend to do the customer a disservice in many cases)
  • It is whats "under the hood that counts...don't pay more THINKING you're getting more (a $500 mattress can LOOK like $2000 mattress...thickness does NOT equal quality)
  • What makes...
Re: Sleep Science Ara Foam Mattress at Costco - mstroder

These beds are made by South Bay International and sold to resellers. Costco being one of them. I did not get it from Costco and now I am stuck. Here is my story:

I purchased the SOUTH BAY INTERNATIONAL'S (Sleep Science) Supreme 14.5" mattress through a reseller and had it freighted to my home. After a few months while re-arranging my bedroom I tore the cover. I was very disappointed. So, I started the process of finding and ordering one. I contacted SOUTH BAY INTERNATIONAL, who still makes the bed for resellers, and tried to order the replacement for my $2100 SOUTH BAY INTERNATIONAL mattress. At first I was told that the cover was not available. I became irritated and told them that I was going to what I am doing here, let everyone know that South Bay International does not support it's products or customers. I was...

Ha ha! Thanks so much! Truthfully I'd pay for the SleepEZ if I could get it right! The jury is still out on the cheapo Sam's spring mattress.

Friday night was ok. Little bit of ache in the morning, but not bad. But, the mattress was so firm that I had a hard time falling asleep.

Saturday I put a simple 1" memory foam topper on it. Nothing fancy- like 3lb, but just enough to help a bit. Well- that was a BAD idea.

Sunday we both woke up at 5am with excruciating back pain! I mean bad. We both promptly moved to the guest room. Of course, after about five minutes I just could not lay down anymore and had to get up. And my back hurt all day yesterday.

Sunday night we tried again mattress only, no topper. That was...

I'm in the market for a new mattress.  My wife and I have had a S&F for 8 years that we like.  However, we're changing beds and decided to get a new mattress at the same time.  We're both side sleepers and found (when we first got the S&F) that a pretty plush mattress is most comfortable for us.

This past week, we visited the local Mattress Firm and tried out several of the plusher S&F's.  My wife like the Fiona pillow-top best.  I preferred the Abbey Lynn and Fiona plush (both of which were a little firmer that the Fiona pillow-top but still plenty plush).  However, the mattress we actually liked the best was the TempurPedic Cloud Luxe.  That surprised me.  I had typically found the TP mattresses too firm.

Anyway, I've got two basic issues with the TP.  First, I don't...
