ILD/IDF do measure compression, mainly in latex and memory foam matresses. But the problem you are going to run into is that there is no standard for what is soft/medium/firm, so you are really fighting a losing battle. If it makes you feel any better I have a Sealy Posturpedic Plush Euro Pillowtop and I have never gotten a good nights sleep out of it without a layer of memory foam on top.

Precisely what I am trying to say.  ILD gives us one way to measure 'firmness' in essence and assign a numerical value.  But what we label as soft/medium/firm is based on subjectivity. Science can tell you one bed is firmer than another, but not what the cut of point should be. If we left it based on this it would be like saying a 19 ILD...

cool in the summer and warm in the winter...this is the nature of any good insulating material that can breathe and wick away moisture.  animal hair products are the best for getting all of these properties in one.  its pretty hard for science to beat out millions of milions of years of evolution.  wool is such an ancient material...if you really think about it, humans have been living with animal hair products (wool, alpaca, cashmere) for tens of thousands of years...even we have evolved somewhat with the use of these materials.  it makes nothing but logical sense as to why its so comfortable.

online. i am talking about a new latex mattress they said they will sell. can someone confirm this from them.

when and big question is if.

To me it seems they were lying to me. Because different people said different thing. And I have called many times.

But when enough people call and ask if they are bringing a new latex mattress to sell online they will have to come up with truth. ...

I did get the hybrid from Cosco and have had it for about 90 days.  The mattress appears to have pretty good quality but I found it is 10" rather than 11".  The base foam appears to be 6" rather 7" as described.  I sent Sleep Science an email suggesting they revise their description on their web site accordingly and consider a price adjustment but didn't even get a curtesy response.  Anyway, I consider the mattress to be very firm and doesn't seem to have much cushion in the comfort layer.  Seems like they need to add another two inches of 5# in the second layer to provide that cushion.  As a side sleeper, I find the mattress too firm and am debating on returning it and getting the Ara or adding a 3" talalay topper in the 19 ILD area.  If anyone has suggestions, they'd be appreciated.

Tons of interesting responses in this forum about Dr. Breus' beds. In my experience, the name of the person on the bed (Donald Trump, Vera Wang, Dr. Breus, etc) usually have very little to do with the actual product performance. I will say that Dr. Breus , in the area of the sleep sciences, is absolutely phenomenal... when it comes to the actual mattresses, it seems like it might be a little self-serving. I havenot tried out this line of beds yet, but I do know some of the other reponses have listed some inaccurate info.

Re: update/reviews requested on Costco adjustable memory foam bed - BBALLARD

We looked at a variety of memory foam split-king mattresses with adjustable bases, ranging in prices up to almost $10,000.  The Costco Sleep Science product was a little over 20% of that cost.  We took a chance.

There was an issue.  Some of the reviews indicated that the mattress was on the firm side, and we found that to be the case.  We purchased two inch memory foam toppers to soften up the bed and that has worked out extremely well for us.  We are very pleased and the cost differential was huge.

Sleep Science Folding Mattress Foundation - jaco0582

Hi,

I slept on the "Garretson Firm" another night, and still pretty dissatisfied about concerns of chemical exposure as i did again wake up dry & stuffy.  If I end up ordering a fancy natural mattress from Soaring Heart, will this be a good foundation for it?  Otherwise, I can return this foundation along with the toxic rectangle.  I assume the wood is wood, and I am willing to assume the metal isn't grossly radioactive.  But the foundation meets the requirements of 16 CVR Part 1633, so does that mean the included machine washable cover is loaded with toxic chemicals?  Here's the link:

Thanks for any advice.

Please help me choose a Costco Memory Foam Mattress - Betsy80
Feb 4, 2013 7:00 PM
Hi everyone!
I've been sleeping on a 20 year old sagging mattress. The lower back pain is debilitating. I am dumb for not realizing what I was doing so long. I have had tmjd for 13 years, severe head, neck, tmj, temple, jaw pain due to orthodontics. But my back was fine till the mattress got worse. So I would like to buy one of the 3 below, preferably one of the 1st two because their on sale. I use a tempurpedic pillow which I can't live without, but can't afford that brand in mattress. I am seeking a medium firmness, not too soft not too hard. I would be using the mattress with slats, not using a box spring. Any help appreciated, I chose 3 from Costco below, please tell me why one is better for support and pain issues over another. Thank you!

I tore a disk in my back in 2008. My back never has healed to what it was. I go through mattresses like some people go through shoes. Tried every type.

Select Comfort (setting at a max. of 100% still way too soft), The firmest Temper Pedic made (got maybe a week of good sleep from it untill it started to sag).

A traditional inner spring Stearns and Foster (hard to find now), that was not all that firm and it did not take long before it started to sag.

My last bed that I gave away was a Sterns and Foster 100% latex foam bed. Again might have got 2 weeks out of it before it too started to sag. Ouch.

The one I am on now is some sort of hybrid. Part foam part inner spring. It is a Simmons....
