What is the best firm innerspring mattress from the S brands? - kimutt01

Hi everyone!

I have been a long time lurker and this is my first post.

Let me share my story with you first as to why I am not asking for a latex or memory foam mattress (which would be my choice).

A year and a half ago my fiance and I bought a new Spring Air Four Seasons Ultra Plush mattress from J.C. Penny.  We spent about $1,300 for the mattress and loved how amazing it felt in the store.  Prior to this, I had a Plush Sealy Posturepedic that was about 10 years old and still was great, but when we moved in together I sold my furniture as my cal king bedroom set was too big for the bedroom.  Since my plush Sealy Posturepedic was so comfortable and durable, we though that an ultra plush Four Seasons would be the ultimate luxury.  Oh...

Re: Sams Club 100% natural latex mattress??? - bert76

Does anybody know if Sam's Club changed their 100% latex mattress?  It seems that it now has a bamboo cover rather than wool/cotton.  That change makes me wonder if other important factors have been changed.

Thoughts?

Like a lot of folks, it seems, I'm trying to decide between the Coscto 100% latex in king and the Sam's Club 100% latex in king.  Both seem to have their merits and are priced about the same right now.  I do like that the Costco one is flippable to different firmness levels.  And there certainly are a lot more reviews of the Costco mattress.  I've read through all of the  posts on the subject, but I'm still not sure which way to go.

I'm also considering the Simmons Natural Care Forevergreen Cushion Firm from JC Penney, mostly because we have a JC Penney Home...

Surgery On Simmons Danny Seo Latex? - pbpme
Sep 3, 2010 10:19 AM
I read BillB's review the simmons Danny Seo.  Unfortunately we bought ours 2 years ago and cannot return it.  It is the Simmons New Hope Natural Care 'Latex'.  The mattress has become way too soft, and gives us severe back aches.  We hate to replace it so soon after a 2k$ investment.  So, after researching this site, I'm thinking of the cheapest way to "fix" the mattress.  One option is a topper.  I'm not sure what ILD to choose and what thickness for this option.

Another option, is to cut the mattress open and insert a 1/4 inch plywood between the top layer and foundation layer.  I understand the top layer of latex is only 2" thick?  Is this possible?...

Latex Mattress, Latex Top on Innerspring Mattress, or Build Our Own? - kyley

Hi All,

First post here!  I just discovered this forum and it's nice to see a group of knowledgable people helping each other out with something as difficult as mattress shopping!  We've been looking at all types of mattresses and found we don't like Tempurpedic, like the Sleep Doctor - Dr. Breus all latex bed (know anything about this bed - type of latex, will it get body impressions, etc.?), and like the Sealy / Simmons innerspring with latex topper beds.  But, I like the idea of an all-latex bed, yet they're pricey, I don't know what type / quality of latex is used in these and whether it will hold up, and I hear horror stories (user reviews) of the mattresses developing cavities / body impressions that lead to people sleeping in a valley...  I want to avoid that!

Anyway, I'm intrigued with the comments here about things...

Sorry, I see by my last posted reply that I didnt post it right so trying again!  Phoenix, I'm wondering who/where you finally bought your mattress layers from??  Can you exchange them at any time if you want to?   I am wanting to do the same as you did...building the layers but, not sure where/who to buy them from?!  I'm finding the whole mattress buying thing as stressful as buying a car and just wish I could be done but want to make sure I am getting the right fit the first time!  What size did you get and approx how much did it cost you?  Did you already have a foundation to put the...
Re: Adjustable Bed-Latex-OMI OrganicPedic-Flobeds - Phoenix

I certainly understand your point. I have suspicions though that OMI's efforts towards being organic are more driven by a desire to capitalize on (mis)perception than they are on real organic manufacturing. I have no doubt that much of what they say is true and they even have an actual USDA organic mattress (not latex) ... but it's in the part that isn't true at all (I believe that some of what they say is completely false) and the price they charge for the perception they create that I have some "issues" with them. Having said all that, their mattresses are without a doubt very nice. Greensleep for example ... while still too expensive IMO ... are much closer to being organic than OMI in ways that really count as they really do control their own latex supply. I also understand that their latex could be qualitatively different from other...
Re: Ikea latex vs. Sealy Embody - Phoenix

Jimsocal:

The Sealy Embody has 3" of what they call smart latex on top and that is on top of 7" probably HR base. There are only these 2 layers so there is no poly on top. They describe their smart latex as "continuous pour" so it is likely LI dunlop. Whether this is natural or blended is open to question but it is latex for sure. Even all synthetic latex would be less likely to develop body impressions than any polyfoam. There are some mattresses made by the "S" companies that use natural Dunlop and also Talalay (probably the blend) but IMO they are way overpriced and they mostly spoil them by adding polyfoam in the wrong places. The highest content of any of them is the Simmons natural care elite (Uses Talalay) which only has a 2" layer of poly and this is in the support...

I have the stats for the Simmons natural care and even more importantly (they are almost all latex) the natural care elite. How each of these felt to you and the specific model that felt that way can lead to great information about combinations that work for you.

Using more expensive mattresses with higher quality materials in a mattress store can be an invaluable research tool in finding a much much less expensive mattress with similar qualities in a much lower budget.

They are well worth trying out along with the Serta pure response and the Sealy embody just for the information you can gain from knowing which of these fits you. This information could be very valuable in choosing a different (and much less expensive) bed with similar characteristics.

That's too bad. IBC has an origins line which is their latex line so it would have been nice if you could try them. I guess you're back to holder. Have you talked to them on the phone? At least we know thay have all latex mattresses and latex top mattresses and I'm guessing they have decent prices.

Failing that, I would either

1. Widen your search a bit to neighboring states and then do most of the work on the phone before you take any trips.

or

2. Go to local mattress stores and lay on mattresses that are mostly latex (Sealy springfree if you can find them or embody, Serta pure response, or Simmons natural care  and natural care elite, or any other latex mattress that they carry that has mostly latex in the top). Do most of the work...

I went looking at The Room Place today, mainly because they are listed as retailer on Dormia.com's site (a latex mattress maker I found through Google).  What a huge disappointment, partially because they didn't have any Dormia products, but mainly because the guy helping me didn't know anything!

He showed me three Simmons Natural Care mattresses.  I asked if they were entirely made of latex and he told me they were.    There was one of the little construction cutouts by the $1800 mattress, and at the bottom was a 2" lay of foam -- clearly NOT latex all the way through!  There was one for $1500 and one for $1800 and I asked him the differences between them a couple times.  All he could tell me was that the foam densities were different.  I asked him for numbers, said I was a computer guy and wanted to...
