Re: Anyone know how to build a DIY air-bed mattress - jimsocal
Jul 31, 2013 12:19 AM
One thing I would be careful of with diy air mattresses is using vinyl. Not sure if they make them of vinyl or not but I know vinyl is said to be very toxic and one would not want to breathe the off-gassing vinyl all night long every night. Just a word of caution.

Aside from that I would love to try an air mattress but they're so damned expensive!

Also I am interested in a water mattress. I slept on one for many years in my 20's and 30's and then had a couple leaks in a short time and gave up on them. However I never had back problems when sleeping on them. Is it coincidence, just that I was younger then, or are waterbeds better? I can't answer that. But like air mattresses, they are so over-priced...

The Cloud and Cloud Select should feel almost identical.  Tempurpedic didn't change anything about the bed except for the base layer which shouldn't make much of a difference in feel.  Therefore, the Supreme should definitely feel softer as it has a thicker "ES" layer on top.

I'm not sure where you are buying them from, but one of the biggest negatives of buying clearance is that you won't get a comfort guarantee or warranty.  Some places when you buy a new one will offer you a comfort guarantee, that way you can make sure it works out for you.

I've worked in the mattress industry for 12 years and Tempurpedic is one bed that I have seen have very few problems.  It's just like everything else and there are bad ones out there, but not nearly as often as you see with a lot of your...

Hey there Dave... Listen I have been the route of latex, and memory foam.. believe me they saw me coming.. spent a fortune on all of them.. and still terrible..the mattress industry is a very profitable one for the manufacturers and the store owners.. they love us..!!!   They have all the gimmincks, all the textures, all the material you could want in a lifetime, trouble is you don't get anything for your money today.  You are lucky to have had your Tempurpedic for 10 years.. they have improved upon them over the years and offer all kinds of  comfort levels today.. I finally gave up and went back to a coil mattress with a firm feel and soft but not too soft a top as I didn't want all this padding to compress on me.. do I love it .. NO.. but it is the first bed in 5 years...
Re: New Sealy Posturpedic causing back pain - crock

If you are already "hammocking" in bed, any topper you buy will just make it worse. I your lower back is hurting you first have to determine if your mattress is too stiff, or not supportive enough. If it is too stiff your hips will cock at an angle to let you midriff touch the mattress. If you don't have enough support your butt sinks lower and your whole spine takes a curve. Have somebody look at your back while resting on your side. Your shoulders and hips should be square to the bed and your spine at your butt almost level with the spine at your shoulder. Once you find mattresses that are close to that ideal, choose the most comfortable one. The most common mistake is that people find a soft mattress that lets their hips sink too far. This feels comfortable for a short time but causes...

Mattress too soft? Should I try another? - jstluise
Dec 14, 2012 10:18 PM
Some background: Our IKEA mattress was getting old (12 yr) and worn out.  While I seemed to sleep fine, my gf wasn't too happy with it.  I agreed a new Mattress would be a good idea, but I dreaded searching for the right one.  We went into SleepCountry (popular here in the northwest) and ended up going home the same day with a Simmons Beautyrest Truenergy (specifically the Bryanna Plush Eurotop).  We narrowed it down to that one and another Truenergy that was slightly firmer (which I liked better, but the gf did not), but ended up choosing the softer one.

As soon as we got it delivered, it felt a lot softer than it did in the store, so I was skeptical...too soft.  The first night sleep was horrible; I was tossing and turning all night because I couldn't get comfortable (we are both back/side sleepers).  It...

Re: My back hurts & I'm still ISO a non-sag mattress! - Oliver

I tore a disk in my back in 2008. My back never has healed to what it was. I go through mattresses like some people go through shoes. Tried every type.

Select Comfort (setting at a max. of 100% still way too soft), The firmest Temper Pedic made (got maybe a week of good sleep from it untill it started to sag).

A traditional inner spring Stearns and Foster (hard to find now), that was not all that firm and it did not take long before it started to sag.

My last bed that I gave away was a Sterns and Foster 100% latex foam bed. Again might have got 2 weeks out of it before it too started to sag. Ouch.

The one I am on now is some sort of hybrid. Part foam part inner spring. It is a Simmons....

According to the current FloBeds website, I have the orginal Talalay Latex Select Mattress.  It has 2 layer of core which I have selected as XFirm.  It also has a 2" comfort pad and the  100 percent Cotton & Wool Cover.  I took the comfort pad and cover off for a couple of nights and I was back to no acheness.  But the wife is still complaining about neck and shoulder aches.

I did notice there is some breaking down of the comfort layer.  I am going to call FloBeds to see if I can get a new comfort pad layer.
