Re: Are FoamByMail's memory foam topper densities accurate? - BeddyBye

@Sandman:
Thank you so much for your reply. In the meantime, Chris at FoamByMail has been graciously answering my questions about their toppers. He said the same thing as you did. All their memory foam toppers are 14 ILD or IFD. He said they feel very similar. The biggest difference is durability between the three densities. He suggested a 3 in h for the best performance if I'm a side sleeper. However, the 2" 3 lbs. Sealy I have seems to be working under the thick CuddleBed fiber mattress cover. It's sitting atop a 1.5 inch firm Omalon topper. The bed is 2 layers of 36 ILD Talalay latex over 1 inch high density poly foam and heavy springs. Since this topper was such a bargain, I might just stick with it and if I feel the need to, order a 4 lbs. density topper from FoamByMail later. Chris...

Dimmy. Your experience with several beds sounds horrible. It seems you need a very soft mattress. The challenge is to find a mattress that is soft enough to eliminate pressure points and supportive enough to allow for a sensible sleeping position. Have you looked into an alternative material mattress like latex or memory foam? Mattdud

Sconnie. Agree with previous poster. Put wool under you and over the mattress if you want it a little cooler. How old is the mattress? If it still supports you properly you can control temperature rather easily. Mattdud

spur0701. You are exactly on the right track. Very firm double sided mattress then add toppers that fit your weight and sleeping style. You might both like a medium topper since she thinks the current bed is too soft and you are a bigger guy. If you both don't like the topper you get you can cut it in...

Years ago after I was experiencing shoulder pain and numbness, and after a bit a research, we bought a Sealy Newport Beach king latex mattress.
With the exception of the incredible heat, this was one of the best purchases ever! It is now time for a replacement, but all of my info is dated.
Any help on suggesting a comparable replacement that is hopefully cooler would be appreciated. Of course, better is better, and right now all comparable options are on the table. Thanks....

Hot Sleeper... recommendations? - sirwoodland

Hi all,
I've always been a very hot sleeper and currently have a Simmons plush with a pillow top... I roast most nights. I've started looking at new mattresses but I'd really like to move away from a traditional inner spring if possible (for longevity and pressure point purposes). But, I keep reading that most of the alternatives I'm considering run hotter.
All this said, I went to a local mattress store and of all I tried, I actually liked the hybrid mattresses quite a bit (comfort-wise). More specifically, the Sealy Kingsthorne PL hybrid, and the Simmons Hybrid 5000. However, does anyone know how well these handle heat, and which mattress(es) are the best for heat dissipation in general? Thanks in advance....

Hi everyone...new here! I hope y'all can help me out. We have got to get a new mattress soon! I can not take my current one anymore! It's to the point that I dread going to bed to another sleepless night.
A bit of history first....we had a pillow top Sealy Posturepedic for several years. I loved it! It doesn't seem like it had the super thick pillow top that I see on many mattresses now. It was just right. It had the firmness to give good support but also soft enough to be comfortable and cozy.
Well, a few years ago I started having lower back/hip issues. I have a bulging disc that causes hip and sciatic pain that I've been getting nerve blocks every few months...putting off surgery as long as I can.
Coincidentally, when these back problems started or became noticeable to me, our Sealy Posturepedic started giving me...

BED AND MATTRESS BUYING NIGHTMARE! - dimmy

Why is that POCKET SPRUNG MATTRESSES are so popular over OPEN COIL type mattresses?. I find the pocket sprung type far to firm and uncomfortable and therefore they, create pressure points especially around the hip area. During my earlier years I bought a Silentnight ULTIMATE SLEEP SYSTEM bed which had an open coil spring system in the mattress including a zonal extra support in the middle of the mattress. This bed also had a sprung base. THIS BED GAVE ME THE BEST NIGHTS SLEEP I HAVE EVER HAD!. Unfortunately these beds are no longer available so I decided to go for a pocket sprung bed which proved to be a terrible mistake!. This was a Sealy with a comfort rating of "medium" with a platform base. This was like lying on a slab of concrete and killed my back, so I had to invest in 2 memory foam...
