I wanted the OMF Ortho Ultra Firm, but didn't have the money and am not done moving around the country yet, either. So I went cheap, buying a discontinued mattress. I'm happy with my setup, here:

Original Mattress Factory Orthopedic Ultra Firm. Next one down is the Orthopedic Firm. There are a chain with regional markets near their factories.
I have a friend who weighs 400# or more. He bought the Ultra Firm in 2007 and it's still holding up very well to him. He got the double row of foam cyliners at the edges, though, and they only offer a single row now due to flammability issues or something.

Re: New Sealy Posturpedic causing back pain - crock

If you are already "hammocking" in bed, any topper you buy will just make it worse. I your lower back is hurting you first have to determine if your mattress is too stiff, or not supportive enough. If it is too stiff your hips will cock at an angle to let you midriff touch the mattress. If you don't have enough support your butt sinks lower and your whole spine takes a curve. Have somebody look at your back while resting on your side. Your shoulders and hips should be square to the bed and your spine at your butt almost level with the spine at your shoulder. Once you find mattresses that are close to that ideal, choose the most comfortable one. The most common mistake is that people find a soft mattress that lets their hips sink too far. This feels comfortable for a short time but causes...

What did you end up with that's comfortable? I am in the same situation. I really liked the OMF latex beds but they were too spendy. I ended up with the orthopedic firm with intentions to get a topper. I have it home now and put on the Costco Cuddlebed but it needs more softness. The bed is really firm. I am looking for toppers now. By reading some other posts it seems like people say the FBM 20 ILD is not all that soft and is closer to other companies 28 ILD so I don't think that would compare to the OMF latex beds in terms of softness. I am looking now at other brands which are a little spendier but I'm nervous as I'm in a CA king size and it adds up quickly. Just curious what you've ended up with and if you're happy. I previously had...

1. The break down was what I thought I picked up here as well, though dunlop generally seemed a bit firmer according to most people and could be a substitue for a cheaper core option.
2. Any other options than Pure Latex Bliss? The nearest retailer to me is about an hour and a half away. If I must, we could maybe hit it up, but if another vendor has a similiar option that would be prefered.
3. Are sleepez and FBM pretty much the only reasonable online options? Are there other online vendors that are comparable?
4. The covers at either place, are they universal? Will they fit regardless of the depth of the latex we go with? Outside of a wool cover, do we need any other kind of matress protection/protector?
5. So if I went with...

When I Surfing google I read article about Benefits Of A Memory Foam Mattress Topper.
Headaches: Stress headaches tend to be a result of strain on neck muscles.
Arthritis: Since foam soaks up a few of the pressure brought on by the tension in the spring unit, your body will be less vulnerable to arthritis discomfort.
Back and neck pain: Even though it is possibly that your pillow is the reason for neck or back pain, those who sleep on low quality or extremely firm beds are more inclined to develop this kind of pain.
Poor circulation: Orthopedic beds are often much firmer when compared with traditional medium tension solutions....
Please help me choose a Costco Memory Foam Mattress - Betsy80

Hi everyone!
I've been sleeping on a 20 year old sagging mattress. The lower back pain is debilitating. I am dumb for not realizing what I was doing so long. I have had tmjd for 13 years, severe head, neck, tmj, temple, jaw pain due to orthodontics. But my back was fine till the mattress got worse. So I would like to buy one of the 3 below, preferably one of the 1st two because their on sale. I use a tempurpedic pillow which I can't live without, but can't afford that brand in mattress. I am seeking a medium firmness, not too soft not too hard. I would be using the mattress with slats, not using a box spring. Any help appreciated, I chose 3 from Costco below, please tell me why one is better for support and pain issues over another. Thank you!

I bought this mattress here in Whittier in April 2011. As of now, it is sagging in the middle and is very lumpy all over. My back hurts every morning and the whole thing is just terribly uncomfortable. I complained to ORTHO, under the false assumption they would honor their warranty, about the hole in the middle and got a total run-around. Their Customer Service people were nasty and rude. When I called the President's office I was assured of a response but to now (a month later) have heard nothing). There so-called inspector (for which I paid $58 non-refunable if complaint was denied) found an invisible stain which ORTHO claims invalidates the warranty. To the best of my knowledge I had nothing to do with this stain. However, ORTHO refused any alleviation of the problem. Unless I want to sue guess I'm stuck with this lousy mattress until I can afford a...

Really if someone just has a good idea of any general guidelines for the maximum amount of padding you want on a firm mattress you are going to put a topper on later, that would be enough info.
I can find out at the Original Mattress Factory store how many inches (or half-inches..) of padding is on their Orthopedic Luxury Firm mattress and compare.

Best OMF matress to buy to add a topper to later? - levander

I realize nobody can tell me what the most comfortable mattress for me is going to be. But I'm wondering if anyone is familiar enough with Original Mattress Factory mattresses to offer advice on if there are any design issues that will make certain mattresses better or worse for toppers to be added to later?
I really, really liked the Orthopedic Pillowtop mattress in the store. But from what I've read and personal experiences, I'm too worried about the pillowtop sagging after a couple of years to buy one.
And it's my understanding, once your pillowtop wears out, adding a topper on top of your pillowtop isn't an option that works very well.
So, pillowtops are out I'm thinking.
Now the Orthopedic Luxury Firm doesn't have a pillowtop and I was able to lay down on it very comfortably at the...
