I do believe that Green Sleep has some models that would be under $3,000.  They use coils and latex, no PU foam whatsoever.

I am biased but I think the Natura with the 4" of Talalay latex on top and the wool/cotton batting is an all around healthier and better quality option.  Plus in the US Natura models are made in Texas of mostly all north american made components.

It's funny you mention that, Budgy actually pointed me to a few mattresses... namely the Royal Pedic, Green Sleep & a sleeptek that is sold in the US by "The Clean Bedroom" as the "Naturally Organic European Tufted Cotton Organic Mattress".  Since  all three of those lines are carried by The Clean Bedroom, I swung up to their Westport location today to check them out.  Unfortunately they didn't have any Green Sleep in the showroom, but they had both the Royal Pedic and "Naturally Organic" on the floor so I was able to compare them.  I liked them both a lot, and found them to be fairly comparable in feel.  The Royal Pedic is a good...

Newbie questions. Keetsa & Sultan Laxeby - XJGPN

Hi,

I’m a newbie but have been doing lots of research the last few weeks so I have a “little” bit of knowledge now on this subject.  I was wondering about the lack of reviews on the Keetsa mattresses?  I saw them mentioned here:

http://www.whatsthebest-mattress.com/forum/stearns-foster-luxury-firm-too-soft-gah-what-are-my-options/14293-21-1.html

So being from NY I stopped by to take a look at the Keetsa Latex as it really sounded like what I was looking for.  (Nothing fancy, just an innerspring mattress with better quality materials than the “S” Brands, but without getting into Shifman/Hästens pricing).  Unfortunately, their latex/innerspring mattress was way too soft… but I really liked the feel of their Tea Leaf Dream and their Tea Leaf Classic which are innerspring with a claimed “Memory Foam”.  Their “Memory Foam” doesn’t really feel like most memory foams.  It feels between the...

Keetsa ... IMO ... is a prime example of "greenwashing". This is not to say their products are bad ... but to call "green tea" memory foam "green" because they've replaced a little bit of their oil based polyols with plant based polyols is a little like saying just try this "reduced arsenic" drink. It tastes great and has less of the bad stuff in it.

Their latex is probably an example of some of the latex I was referring to in the Ikea thread. This too is not bad as there seems to be some very good latex coming out of Asia (both Talalay and Dunlop) but there is also some "not very good" latex coming from the same area. It certainly makes it more difficult to know what you are getting. I wish they (and others) would be more open about the source of their latex...

Re: Latex in St. Pete (FL) - Phoenix

OK, here's a few more that are either in St. Petersburg or reasonably close.

http://www.originalmattress.com/locations Regional manufacturer. I'm including this even though the closest is Kimsimmee because they have great value.

http://www.restonicflorida.com/products.htm National manufacturer. I'm including this one because they build all the Restonic in FL and they are one of the "better" national brands in some areas (they are different in different areas). If you come across Restonic anywhere this will give you a way to check what's in it.

http://www.pittsburghmattressfactory.com/ Local manufacturer in Ellenton

http://www.panachemattress.com/about.html They are a specialty manufacturer usually available through retail outlets. They have a latex/poly and memory foam line. Good for testing out what construction feels good but are often priced more than I would pay. They would probably give you the names of retail outlets that carry them near you

We are also in the market for a new mattress and live in Houston.  I am focused on a healthy one and have found a store in Houston called New Living (http://www.newliving.net/) on Kirby we are looking at the Green Leaf Supreme by Keetsa (non toxci memory foam) and the Lago by OMI (latex).  Another store that carries a healthy mattress is One Green Street, I believe the model they carrie is the Serene by Natura.

Good luck!...

Great info on alignment, Phoenix. The illustration really helps. I think I'm fine for now in this regard. I used my new Natura pillow last night for the first time and it gave me great support (I just have to get used to the smell, which, though less than pleasant, is at least non-toxic!)

Out of curiosity, I checked out some "natural latex" mattresses while I was Christmas shopping. Went into the Keetsa shop ( I noticed that the products are made in China...not very environmentally friendly for a self-promoting "green" company!) Someone like you should write a "Dummies Guide to Buying a Mattress" or an online manual that, for a small fee, helps to cut through all the misinformation and hype...or else a documentary expose on the industry.

Once again, thanks for your time, Phoenix.

I checked the Brick's invoice and they offer a 'Sleep Better Comfort Guarantee': " a one-time reselection for 90 days from the date of delivery. This offer is extended to 180 days with a matt pad." So, I'm considering one of the following:

1. Buy the Springwall plus a good topper as you suggested (The Sertapedic is the same price as the Springwall, but I'd have to ask about the amount of polyfoam in it: http://www1.thebrick.com/brickb2c/jsp/catalog/product.jsp?id=CELITEQPK&navAction=jump&navCount=5). This option seems practical and economical. I might try a Natura latex topper; I have one of their latex pillows, which I find very comfy and supportive.

2. Do some research this time (!) and try out the Tempur-Pedic RythmicNC: http://www1.thebrick.com/brickb2c/jsp/catalog/product.jsp?id=RHYTHMQPK&navAction=jump&navCount=18

It's the only full latex mattress offered by the Brick plus it has the wool liner...
