What you describe sounds like the 7" of foam is too soft to support you. That is why the back ache shows up only if you lie on it for a long time. For short periods of time, your back muscles will support you. After a while they begin to ache if they have to work for hours....

pondkoi, please post how you like your new mattress when it arrives. I have a feeling you will love it since I have never read anything bad about Jamison Talalay Latex Mattresses. I agree that a Latex mattress needs a good firm foundation.I wish I could help pressurepoints but I bought my slat box when I bought my mattress. Maybe others can access the smartbox foundation for pressurepoints that know a little bit more about foundations. I just know the slats can't be too far part. My foundation is splilt so that it is supported in the middle also which I love and the foundation is easy to move around when the mattress is off of it and the headboard is off of it and the two sides are disconnected in case I ever need to move....

Have you done a search on the forum for convoluted latex toppers? You might find some answers there, or send them a PM, whoever has one (I forgot who has them now).
Search Jamison on the forum also. Can't remember if they are all synthetic latex or not. They could have foam in it too, some of the S brand latex mattresses do.
Are you happy with those jersey sheets? I am still searching for thicker quality jersey sheets. The ones I find locally as way to thin and cheap. Seems to be the quality of stuff today....

First of all, if you think that the problem is that the mattress is too soft, there's not much you can do in the way of a topper, etc to make it firmer. That is why it's ususally better to start on the firm side, as it can be made softer with a topper of latex, foam or memory foam. There are people that just can't sleep on a foam type bed, not sure if you are one of them from what you've described.
You say that it is 3" of latex over 7" of foam. Is there also a pillowtop on the mattress over all of this? If so, the pillowtops are usually a few inches thick and are made of cheaper PU foam, they will feel very comfortable in the store.... but upon sleeping on them will often times end up being way too soft. They also form a 'rut' or...

The Marriott bed supposedly has latex, pu foam (mostly), and maybe a bit of memory foam in it. I think if you google it you'll find some things, but i wasn't able to find the exact specs. Try calling Jamison to find out..I'd love to know....

No, not on the Stearns and Foster now - sent it back. Long story.
What we're sleeping on now - is a stop-gap measure: a better-than-average hide-a-bed mattress on the floor, over an old 3-inch foam pad (foam pad on the bottom). It looks ridiculous because it's surrounded by the king size wood frame, footboard, and headboard. Obviously we're sleeping much closer together than usual! No room to spread out.
My DH has joked that we went from climbing "up" onto our bed to now climbing "down" to get to our bed. I retorted that - hey - it's Job One to keep his life exciting and he'll just never know what to expect! :) Fortunately, I think he can sleep on just about any mattress.
So - now waiting for the convoluted latex mattress topper to arrive. We have an old, fairly firm mattress and box springs set downstairs that we can...

Thanks for your response Bill. The info about the topper is helpful, at least to know it won't help! :-)
I did do some research before buying, and it is NOT pillowtop. And I did lie for a while on the mattress I bought, in two different stores. The back problems only seem to have emerged after sleeping all night on this mattress...
There is no option for return, which I found at all the places I looked. But, I not really sure what the reason for the problem is... Anyone else have any suggestions?...

Help with new latex/foam mattress from Jamison - Cindy

I've had my new Equalizer mattress from Jamison for three nights (which I know is a short time). It is composed of a 3" Talalay Latex (24 ILD) top over a 7" foam core. I bought the box that came with the mattress. I previously had a 10-year old Sealy Posturpedic innerspring mattress that was too hard for me as a side-sleeper.
My new mattress seems comfortable at first but I seem to sink too much, and I am waking up with lower back pain which I did not have before. I sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs. I am 5'6" and about 195 lbs.
I am not sure if the Talalay Latex is too soft, or if the problem is that I am sinking through to the foam core which is too hard.
At this point, I want to know what my options...

I slept on the Marriott Bed at a Fairfield and loved it. I'm not sure what the bed was made of but it felt great.
You can buy it at http://www.shopmarriott.com/category.aspx?&category1=MarriottBed&category1Name=Marriott+Bed&category2=Mattress&category2Name=Mattress+%26+Boxspring+Sets&categoryLevel=1
I guess a company called Jamison makes them.
Does anyone know of a bed that is comparable to it? (cheaper?)
Does anyone have the website of a company called Joya (I think)...they are suppose to be like Tempurpedic (sp?) but not be as hot and expensive. Anyone heard of this company?...
