Re: Should I return my bed (less than 1 yr old) or buy new frame? - jimsocal

Any bed you do buy will require a strong frame unless you put it on the floor, so I'd start by getting a new frame and see how that works. IF the springs are damaged, then yes it's damaged permanently. If it's just the foam that has broken down then you can do mattress surgery on it and replace the foam with latex.

If that doesn't work, and you can still return it, then try returning it. Or just return it and start fresh.

Didn't know you could return a bed at CostCo after nearly  a year, though...?

What kind of latex does Select Comfort use? If you like it and it's good latex, it might be a way to go. Most people around here don't seem to like Select Comfort but I have known people who do. If you do, then maybe that's...

I felt bad nobody answered this, but this question has been covered many times.  Have you done a search on the forum for latex toppers?  Lots to read here.

I all still searching and our opinions are just that opinions.  However the quality of the latex has differed from place to place.  Rocky Mountain latex looks beautiful-- from Latex International.  Sleep like a bear has Latex International blended talalay.  Flobeds sells LI, quality mattresses, opinions do vary on sleeping comfort.  These places seem to sell top quality products.  As for comfort that is really a personal selection that we all differ on.  It depends is it going over good springs, old springs, shot springs?

Also our bodies are all different, ages, females/male, weight and physical problems.  Needs are different and changing as we get older ;-)

My springs are hard, and I am still searching for that answer.  Zoning may be the next...

No idea where you're getting the 9" of cotton, but I agree that the best person to answer the question of "what Flobed should I buy" is the guys at Flobeds.  I have a Flobeds mattress, and yes, I called them, and yes, they recommended the V-Zone, and no, I didn't buy it (for one thing it was more expensive and for another, that v-zone layer was more complicated than I wanted to deal with).

I basically chose my mattress based on my budget, they don't have *that* many models.  I eyeballed them, picked a budget and bought the mattress that fit it.  I called them and discussed my height, weight, and sleeping position, they recommended firmness levels that ended up being pretty much spot on.

My mattress is made up of four layers of latex.  Three layers are roughly 2.75" each, and they are layered directly on top of each other. ...

My understanding is that they re-use latex for exchanges.  Not sure if a new purchase would have any returned pieces.  You would have to ask about that.

Re: Are those of us who won't tolerate sagging PU-foam mattresses a small fringe group? - budgy

These are exactly the kind of mattresses that my family focuses on carrying because they generally meet peoples expectations when they are sold (higher end, sag resistant).  From higher up executives from many other companies in the industry I think we are often dismissed because we are 'pandering to a niche market'.  There is definitely some truth to this.....you probably wouldn't believe how skeptical some people are of my claims when most places they go to they are told a thicker pillowtop mattress will easily last 10+ years...and then I tell them the average is 5 years, although it could be anywhere between 3 months and 10 years. There are quite simply a lot of people that probably just don't believe me when I say that.  It's a risk I take but my integrity is on the line.

I would venture to say that if major retailers were...

i love that page.  the two funniest are probably the "Vera Wang Designer Mattress" (made by Serta) because it just illustrates that these mattresses really all look the same inside despite the price difference.

And of course at the bottom the Select Comfort air mattress....LOL too funny. ...

I have an "S" brand mattress that's about 13 years old now. The whole time I've had it, it's been on a captain's bed with a bunky board, and for the last 3 years or so I've had a 3" memory foam topper sitting on it. That last step was mainly because, at the time, I didn't have the savings handy to buy a cheap mattress, never mind something like a TempurPedic, but my lower back was so sore every morning that I had to do something. It's worked pretty well until fairly recently, but for several months I've been tossing and turning more and once again waking up with pain in my lower back every morning.

My wife and I went to the local Sleepys to try out the mattresses and start the ball rolling on buying a new one. Long story short, I literally laid down on...

What is the best firm innerspring mattress from the S brands? - kimutt01

Hi everyone!

I have been a long time lurker and this is my first post.

Let me share my story with you first as to why I am not asking for a latex or memory foam mattress (which would be my choice).

A year and a half ago my fiance and I bought a new Spring Air Four Seasons Ultra Plush mattress from J.C. Penny.  We spent about $1,300 for the mattress and loved how amazing it felt in the store.  Prior to this, I had a Plush Sealy Posturepedic that was about 10 years old and still was great, but when we moved in together I sold my furniture as my cal king bedroom set was too big for the bedroom.  Since my plush Sealy Posturepedic was so comfortable and durable, we though that an ultra plush Four Seasons would be the ultimate luxury.  Oh...

Thanks for all the info. Today, I rotated our Tempurpedic Deluxe and took off a water proof select comfort pad. It has microfiber top with a thin waterproof plastic type feel below that. I learned here that this pad may be making the tempurpedic feel more firm? Worth a shot until I can try the Costco latex to hopefully soften it up. This tempurpedic deluxe has basically 4" of 5.3 memory foam on top.

I realize this costco sleep science latex has a different feel than tempurpedic memory foam, but will it feel softer for my wife since she is a side sleeper and softer for me, but supportive since I am a back sleeper?

Also, while on sleep numbers website, I noticed some pretty good prices in thier outlet on Natura Toppers and comforters. In case anybody is looking here is the link:

Should I return my bed (less than 1 yr old) or buy new frame? - af830
Mar 30, 2010 6:17 AM
Hey all,

I purchased a Sealys Posturpedic Mattress (and box spring) from Costco less than a year ago and i am unhappy with it. It is slumping in the middle, however, I just realized that my bed frame may not be adaquate enough. My father gave me an old steel frame that does not have a center support bar. I am convinced this has something to do with why I am so unhappy with the mattress. It is a comfortable bed with memory foam on top (i think).

Now I have the option of returning it for a full refund at Costco. I also went to Select Comfort and checked out the queen size mattress there and also have a $1000 coupon off their P6 bed (3" breathable laytex top). Grand total $1500 + $60 (delivery) + $80 (feet for the foundation) +...
