Re: Got my foam layers from SleepEZ - jimsocal

Okay! Here's the deal....
Sorry I did not post yesterday, I saw that I had 11 replies in the afternoon but was busy and could not post until today.

First of all thanks to all for your opinions. It really helps to have other people to bounce ideas off of here and get feedback from others.

So it seems - based on most opinions here -  that I would not be out of line by asking for a refund on either or both of these pieces.

Although Budgy has pointed out that not all Dunlop is firmer or "deader" than an equal piece of Talalay, nevertheless this piece is exactly like the piece I tried many years ago: compared to the medium Talalay piece it is - how do I say this? - less "springy" and more "rubbery". It is denser. It is harder. Whereas the natural Talalay piece is...

Budgy, I have a question re latex that I'd like your opinion on.

I found this page at sleepez.com :  (http://www.sleepez.com/latex-mattress-buyers-guide.htm ) for an interesting discussion of various types of latex and processing. I'd be curious as to your opinion of this page's info.

Now: I was going to buy a Natural Dunlop 1" layer from them but I found a review that makes me wonder about the quality of their latex. I'm not asking you to comment on sleepez as a company but rather I'm curious as to how this could have happened. This is what I'm talking about:

A member of this forum (who no longer seems to post here) bought some latex from Sleepez and then wrote a great review but then later had problems. (By the way Sleepez has now successfully addressed the complaint and made the clients happy. But there is no explanation as to what...
Re: My latex twin XL latex topper weights 10 lbs... - Leo3

Very interesting, because I was confused as it is very dense, firm; not at all like the talalay 24 ILD (that was marked).  But as I remember we weighed each twin XL on a human scale with a body plus latex, then without.  So not really that accurate I suppose.  I just know I have a 4 lb. density 1" memory foam and it is as light as a feather (didn't weigh it).  So guess this won't solve if it is Dunlop natural, or Talalay natural or synthetic.  My feeling is that it is Dunlop or Natural Talalay.  I do have a Natura 1" and it is Talalay, as well as the 24ILD Latex International topper.  By the way it is  truly acurately actually 1.5", not less than either.

That is a grab bag for you LOL.  I do feel like it is a decent quality, other than misplaced holes, and...

There is no 100% latex mattress on the Overstock website that I could see.  If you are talking about the ECO latex mattress, the description is:

ECO latex full mattress is made from 2-inches of natural latex on 6-inches of high density foam for a comfortable and restful nights sleep.

If this is not the mattress you're referring to, perhaps you could provide a link?  Then we can all look at it....

It is interesting to hear you say that the latex bed might be warmer (than the Tempurpedic?).  Makes me think I am not totally crazy.

If it is softer, and you are sinking in more, that will make it sleep warmer.   I have found that an extra thick mattress pad helps a bit (they sell some at overstock and possibly costco).   It does change the feel somewhat, so that is the downside.  There is no miracle cure.  The firmer side might sleep slightly cooler.

I am surprised that you think this latex mattress sleeps hot. I have had mine for several weeks now and it is definitely not hot. We don't "sink" down in the mattress like you do with foam. We had ordered a Memory Foam and it was terrible. Very hot and you do sink way down. We took it back after the second sleepless night....

you mean this product right here?  yeah, the mattress is 8 inches thick, and does contain latex.

but here is their info on it:

ECO latex twin mattress is made from 2-inches of natural latex on 6-inches of high density foam for a comfortable and restful nights sleep.

I cannot find any other latex mattresses on overstock other than this and the 10 inch version which also only contains 2 inches of latex on the base core.

okie dokie...good thing i had a day off from work today lol.  I will try to my best to answer some of these new questions.

cityskies:  I feel it is a limited number of people you will find that think dunlop latex is deader feeling.  It is also hard to compare without all the usual variables.  I am gonna say trying my very best to compare apples to apples most customers find the mattresses in our showroom that use dunlop all the way through to be bouncier than ones that use some talalay on top of a dunlop core.  The same is true in my house, I room with my brother who I also work with.  My latex mattress is all naturally sourced rubber, 2" soft talalay on top of a 6" firm dunlop core, my brother also has an all natural latex mattress although the rubber comes from a private...

Hi Budgy,

Thanks for the info...it's very informative.  I have been posting on the "Just bought a new Flobeds" thread and so I am finding your info helpful.  Thanks for reconfirming that I am not imagining that my all natural Talalay is bouncier.  I made some changes and it's doing better but I am wondering if this "bouncier" effect is part of the reason that the hip area is giving way more than the rest?  (Or is it just a sign that I enjoyed the holiday eating too much as my friend suggested this am?! LOL. ) Seriously, since I am 5'7" and about 135 lbs  (and female)...I wouldn't think that there is an extra weight issue so I am wondering what your thoughts are.

Also, I apologize if I am repeating something already said somewhere but it has been a lot of information to take in but I didn't realize there was an...

I agree with everything you have written jst4fun.  My Cal King Latex mattress from Costco arrived on Friday the 22nd.  I didnt order it with a foundation we just used our existing box springs and I am going to go to Home Depot and purchase 3/4" plywood to cover them soon.  When my wife and I tried it out for the first time after it arrived we really enjoyed it after all we had been sleeping on a 12 year old sagging sealy inner spring mattress.  After the first night of sleeping on it I would have to say we are pleased with it.  It feels FIRM but my back felt better and I suffer from restless leg syndrome and it didnt seem to bother me but it comes and goes.  The second night was pretty much the same as the first as we slept well and not...

Mine finally arrived yesterday!!! (ordered Jan 1).

Couple quick points...

1. the foundation is VERY stout, with a nice cover.  I don't love the plastic style top to it, but it is functional, and it gets covered, so it doesn't matter.

2. Delivery company (here in Sacramento, California area) said they are supposed to assemble the foundation at the shop, but customers have told them they don't like that, and now they are assembling on site, and I'm glad they did.  Less chance of losing anything.

3. The Cal King mattress came in full size mattress box AND THREE LAYERS OF PROTECTION.  They aren't messin around!  Outer cardboard box, inner THICK blue tarp like cover, then inner clear plastic cover.  They said they typically fold it in half and carry like a taco.  I suggested we just slide it while vertical and still in the blue tarp-like cover. Not easy because...
