1 5/8" "Medium" Dunlop Latex topper for sale - jimsocal
Mar 2, 2010 7:16 PM
I am offering this like-new piece of latex for sale that I got from SleepEZ:

"
1.5" Twin 100% Natural DUNLOP Latex Topper 1.5 x 38 x 74"" (this is equal to 1/2 of an Eastern or regular King sized mattress)
I have not measured the length and width but it fits my Twin mattress well, maybe just an inch or so longer than my mattress.
It is, however, 1 and 5/8" thick, not 1.5" as they say.
I was told it was made by Latex Green.

30-32 ILD so they say. As most of you may know I have said on several occasions that this FEELS more like a FIRM to me, but I'm no expert. All I can...

Bryan,

Whether Dunlop is better than Talalay or visa versa is individual opinion.  Some people say that Dunlop is the "tried and true" method of latex production, being the original process developed in the . .  .20s?  Also, some people feel that Dunlop, being denser than Talalay, gives more support for people with back issues.

On the Talalay side of the fence, some people say that the Talalay process is an improvement over the Dunlop process and develops a more consistent, even product, less prone to impurities.  Talalay actually comes in a wider range of firmness levels than Dunlop.  I think Talalay was first developed in the 50s.

For myself, I tried some Dunlop mattresses and did not like them.  I thought they felt "dead."  However there are several on this board who specifically sought out Dunlop and prefer it.  I prefer the springier, more resilient feel of Talalay.

Yes, I've read the SaavyRest...

I talked to Arizona Premium mattress company and they told me their blended latex (not 100% natural) comes from the netherlands, while their 100% all natural talalay comes from Latex International.

My hesitation with Flobeds, arizona, etc  is the idea of buying a bunch of foam layers and having it hold up as a mattress for a long time, just inside a zippered cover. Anyone else concerned about that? Where are you getting yours--Flobeds?

That's interesting information!

I don't see the zippered mattress cover as being any different, really, than a completely sealed mattress.  The latex layers are heavy, and "grippy".  They won't move once encased,  in fact if they were not in a cover at all I don't think they'd move either.

Also, latex has a pretty long longevity record - regularly hear reports of people who have had theirs for 20 years or more and still going strong....

Does Sleepez offer a 100% return guarantee?  I don't remember.  Either Sleepez or SaavyRest does not.  Be sure you have a 100% return guarantee, AND that the cover for your mattress can be unzipped to allow the exchange of core layers, should what you order prove to be too soft of too firm.

All mumbo jumbo about Dunlop vs Talalay and natural vs blended is all secondary.  When it comes down to it, when you're buying latex, what matters is the return and exchange guarantees, IMO....
my Flobed (so far) - lnkholder

I promised the helpful people here I would report back, so here's where we are 2.5 weeks after receiving our CalKing Natural Latex Flobed.

Me:  130 lb, fused spine, chronic lower back pain, side sleeper.  Starting configuration:  F/F/XF.
Husband:  210 lb, occasional ergonomic back pain, back sleeper.  Starting configuration F/XF/XF.

Night 1:  We initially set it up on the old boxsprings because we didn't have the platform bed yet.  BIG MISTAKE.  Neither of us slept.

Nights 2-3:  Covered the old base with plywood.  Better, but still much, much too soft.  Reconfigured to F/XF/F (me) and XF/F/XF (him).  Both woke up with back pain the next morning.

Night 4:  Removed the egg crate layer on the top.  He slept much better, but it was a complete disaster for me.

Night 5:  Replaced egg crate layer after moving all firmest layers as far up as possible.  XF/F/F (me), XF/XF/F (him).

After 2-3 nights I decided that this felt weird...

On suggestions of eagle2 and KimberlyH, I'm starting my own thread. I hope my experience may possibly help someone else as I continue to receive help from all the wonderful posters on this forum.

Summary from two previous posts (edited):

60 yr old F,  5' 7", 128 lbs, side sleeper -- Fibromyalgia. Extreme pressure points in hips, (tingling, burning, numbness, pain). Currently sleeping on aTP Cloud Supreme... not really sure it's right for me (How can something feel so soft when you first lie down, and be so hard a few hours later?). Still have 6 weeks before deciding to either  exchange it for TP Rhapsody (a special "thank you" here to...
