Re: Suggestion for cutting and experimenting with foam zones, pillows, etc. - BeddyBye

Thanks, Jim! This was good information to know. I have a couple latex pillows that I find a bit too high. I might give this electric knife a try!

A question: Where do you buy your PU foam? Is it online or somewhere local? When you read all the stats for the foam layers in Sealy, etc. they list names like Super Soft and other comfort-layer-names. How would I go about ordering something comparable? While I like my latex layers, I wouldn't mind trying some good quality softer PU foams. I have those in high ILDs for my mattress base. I just want to try something softer and compare how it feels to my latex for my top layer (s).

Thanks again!...
Re: Should I periodically rotate my Sealy ?? - kimmcgov

Yes, you should rotate it. The information that came with our mattress (not a Sealy though) said to rotate it once a month for the first six months, then once every three months after that. Pillowtops are notorious for hammocking however, so eventually (maybe sooner that you would hope) you will end up with body impressions on both sides. ...

Should I periodically rotate my Sealy ?? - Need4sleep

IHi everyone.

Just bought a Sealy Tentation with pillowtop(available only in Italy i guess ,with that name) wich is equivalent to the Westin Heavenly bed in the USA. The mattress feels great,no doubt about it. I've noticed tho that after only 2 months my side has begun to hammock under upper part of my body. It still feel great,I actually enjoy sinking a bit and i wake up very refreshed. Still, you suggest me to rotate the mattress every now and then ? Tell you what,I did it last night and the mattress felt rock hard new again, did not get much sleep. My retailer did not suggest me anything about it,so did not the Sealy's Italian website.

Thank you.

Have you looked at Sealy's Spring Free line? They sell all synthetic latex mattresses with different options for toppers. Stearns & Foster makes the same beds with fancier covers and higher price tags. The big question is the lifespan of the all synthetic latex. It has only been out a couple of years.

You might want to stick with a firm mattress top with no attached topper rather than a Euro/Pillow/Plush top. You can add a removable topper if you think you need one.

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to thank you so much for all the excellent advice I've received.  I checked out a few of the links in this thread.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look as if they ship to Hawaii (and I'm not sure that any mattress company would due to the item's size.)  So with much regret, the only option I have is to purchase a mattress locally.  I know already I won't be able to get the most comfortable bed, but I believe with your assistance, I will get the best sleeping experience I can get!

Are there any recommendations on what kind of mattress I should buy?  I know it isn't "best", but would it be okay to have the top, and just put a latex mattress topper over it?  Out of all of the "S" beds, are there any that are at least decent, as they seem to be the most readily available in Hawaii.  However,...

Latex topper on traditional spring mattress - mpb2000

Let me start out by saying that my wife and I spent several weekends trying out king size mattresses at various mattress stores.  We found several that we were happy with, but they just didn't quite do it for us, not to mention they were all well over $2000.  We finally stopped at a City Mattress and loved the all latex pranasleep, except for the price tag.  That was way out of our league, but that pretty much ended our mattress search since we didn't want to settle on something when we knew we loved the latex mattress.  Sleep EZ seems like a great alternative, given all the great reviews on here, especially since I would prefer my side a little firmer than my wife's.  However, we noticed in one of our recent Costco coupon mailers, a traditional King Sealy Posturpedic for $659, which includes the box spring.  Can't beat...
foam on box springs?? - jimsocal

I was wondering if anyone has tried using foam on box springs? We are going to be getting rid of our 4 year old Sealy Fenway mattresses (2 twiins side by side) and I am thinking about keeping the box springs just to give the mattress some height. We used to just use the foam on the floor. We tried a slotted wood bottom we bought at Ikea 4 years ago when we had foam (Before we bought the Sealy) but didn't care for that.

I'm thinking we could put the latex or high-density HD foam right on the box springs, or we could buy some plywood to put on top of the box springs.

Any thoughts?

In the end, the height is no big deal, but we're kind of used to it now. Makes it nice to sit on the bed to put your shoes on etc....

Hi, and thanks for the feedback.

I posted a lot of stuff on foam 4 years ago under this username. I experimented as mccldwll did. I tried various combinations, zones, latex, HD, etc, all to no avail. In the end I decided that my back was going to hurt no matter what, because I'd experimented for 6 months, our small apt. was full of foam stacked everywhere and I just got rid of all the foam except the toppers and gave up and bought a Sealy.

The Sealy was actually as good as anything else we'd tried. Looking back, I'd have been better of sticking with foam, but I think we just got sick of foam after so much failed experimentation!

MequonJim, I really did not like latex. It was just too hard or something, and we tried MANY combinations. Now I use a 1 and 1/2" or 2" very...

Want to hear from foam experts with bad backs.... - jimsocal

I have bad back/neck/shoulder problems from a car accident 3 years ago, and no one has been able to help me fix it. I just live with pain, AND with tingling in my arms at night.

Just for background info, 4-5 years ago my wife and I tried them all:

Simmons, Sealy, Spring Air, Flobeds, Latex, Tempurpedic, etc.. None of  them helped me with my back pain, and in the end we started using high-density foam and latex to create our own combinations. Of these, I hated Tempurpedic the most, I hate Simmons because they go bad so fast, the Spring Air just wasn't good, and the Flobeds was probably the best of the lot.

However, that also did not work and in the end we bought 2 twin Sealys because they seemed as good as anything else and we got a good price and were tired of messing with it. We got...
