Customers who have bought a mattress built using Talalay latex tell us that they enjoy a restful night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Hey Cameron, have any of your customers who bought Talalay latex mattresses told you that they woke up with the absolute worst backache of their lives and can't sleep on the thing no matter what they do, 'cause quite a few posters on this Forum have had that reaction. Talalay latex is not the be-all end-all of bedding materials. In fact there is no one sleep surface that suits everyone's preference or orthopedic requirements.  Some people will do better on Dunlop latex because it is denser and more supportive at softer ILDs than Talalay....

I have had that problem with ALL foam in mattresses I've EVER tried, some last weeks, most average 3 1/2 months and then BAM, low back pain.  I'm only 5'6" and 120# so it isn't about height and weight.  Foam is basically a soft plastic/rubber with air bubbles inside of it.  Every time you compress it some of the bubbles pop into other bubbles and the original firmness starts to disappear.  Latex seems to be less like this than other foams;  I had a Latex(Talay)mattress that took a couple of years to break down.
What I don't like about foam is that it simply sinks under weight...it does not push back to support.  Simply gives and sits there.  I think the right spring mattress is the best bet in the long run.
If this new mattress doesn't last either, then you'll know.

Does anyone know Southerland Mattress? - countingsheep
May 16, 2008 2:27 PM
I'm in Tennessee and we have a local mattress company Southerland Bedding (formerly Nashville Bedding). In business since 1893. Also private labels for Ortho Mattress and has a line the Elizabeth Jordan Collection. Wanted info on their Euro top mattress. Retails for $1399 QN set. Described as: Queen Euro Top -- pillowtop with memory foam, thick 15" mattress. Coil count info is not readily available online. Anyone have experience with this company? Thanks, I know this is not alot to go on. Just leary of purchasing and not knowing much about it's quality. Have a call into a sales rep at Ortho regarding coil count.

I'm bumping this thread just to note that the above body pillow is on a "Friday Sale" for $19.99. Since my original post this pillow has picked up a few negative reviews, so even though the price is excellent I haven't ordered. The main complaint is that it's too big and fluffy and doesn't lose its fluff - apparently many people are accustomed to body pillows that lose their fluff and/or prefer them that way.

I'm still thinking of getting a body pillow ... someday.

I bought one about one and a half years ago... was a memory foam one from Ortho for about $100. I've like it, but as a side sleeper, it's not substantial enough for me as I like my arm that is on top to not collapse into my body, which it still does too much with the one I got. So I got...
foundation for latex mattress - pressurepoints
Feb 2, 2009 12:38 PM
I posted earlier that we bought a latex mattress (6 in core and 2 in topper) from FBM. We tried using plywood over our boxspring, but it still bounces some, esp when we get in bed. So, I'm looking at a slatted foundation. It looks like the Coverest http://www.coverest.com/itemdesc.asp?CartId={78EVERESTC5B21D-E2A7-4B8F-9498-0FBD56F47484}&ic=F1-46&eq=&Tp=
and the ortho mattress at Sleep EZ are the same.

There's also a smartbox foundation at palmetto:http://palmettomattress.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=38 for about 1/2 the price.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Re: Ortho pedic vs. Tempur pedic - zsbhi

We have had three tempurpedic's in the past months. The first, classic we had collapsed after 6 years. They then replaced it in september, and the smell was intollerable even though we aired it on the lanai for a week. Within a month it had serious depressions, my husband is big, but even on my side(180 lb). They then replaced it when the depressions got to be 3/4 inch and were very good about it. Since we thought it might be our Hawaiian humidity, we aired this replacement for a month under dehumidifcation and airing( the smell was overpowering) and it collased after three weeks. They finally gave us our money bach and we are trying latex. So any way you want to go, the thing is going to stink for weeks and with the latx I now feel I can breathe again....

I am escatic I found this forum its very helpful but as I read more the more confused I've became. Initially, I thought tempurdic or ortho were the way to go for the best mattress. I am still having a hard time differentiating from Latex and Foam. Can someone help me clarify the difference? I am 5'9 and weight 105 (I have a small frame overall) so pressure points been a persistent problem since I sleep on my sides or stomach. Would I buy a firm mattress or softer one? Your knowledge and opinion is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Finding a good Latex mattress in the Store, especially the LA area, AND know anything about Aireloom Luxury Latex? - karinham

My husband and I would like to buy a good latex mattress, but my husband does not want to buy on-line.  He wants to go into a store, and lay down on the mattress in order to make a decision.

We have tried the following latex mattresses:

Serta - Vera Wang firm and plush (the firm was too firm, the plush was too plush - why couldn't there be a happy medium...)

Ortho Latex - seemed comfortable, but when he moved, I could feel it.  Not interested.

Aireloom Luxury Latex - seemed good, but I went home to the internet and I couldn't get much information on the spingless models.  In fact, the only customer review I could find, good or bad, spoke about a guy that had a dip problem after 4...

Re: Springs not foam, make the difference - Marybeth

Well, my mattress set from Original Mattress Factory arrived tuesday, and I was totally impressed with the ultra-professional delivery personnel and how efficiently they maneuvered the queen mattress up two flights of stairs and around an awkward turn....without squishing the mattress. The other store who delivered my former Symbol, just crammed it around the bend, pushed it, etc., And last night sleeping was a dream come true. Originally I had purchased a Legacy firm set, for $539 plus an up-charge for split box. But the day before, I drove to the store, about 45 minutes away, one last time for a "sleep" test, and was glad I did! I changed my order and upgraded to an orthopedic extra firm set, for $669. It felt so much more comfortable and I could feel the different type of springs, which were much closer together, under my...
