OK, so I just did some math over at Foam by Mail, and I could get a 6" firm (covered) plus a couple 3" toppers and another cover for probably less than $700. That would leave me extra money for a platform bed frame.

Reasons why I shouldn't this (other than the cover is not as nice as the wool covers, no layer exchange, not certain about the quality of the latex)?

I was in your shoes about 8 years ago. I read this forum and wanted to try latex but didn't want to spend the $ on a flobeds even though I wanted to be able to try various layers.

Here's how I decided to go with flobeds. I thought:

Ask yourself if you want returned layers, do you?  If not do you mind $50 copay for new layers from Flobeds?  No payment for new layer required for Sleepeze. You said you don't want convoluted layer.  You still have to pay $30 or so to return shipping the layers you return.

Have you ever tried latex before Cynicaljones?  If not perhaps you do need to be able to exchange layers.  Both places will do that.

Have you thought of building your own?  You can build one for $1200 or under for a 9" latex bed.  You can make a 12" for $1600.  I am estimating at $400 a layer which is Foamsweetfoam's price (natural talalay).  RMM is cheaper for the less ILD layers.  You could have an extra layer in the closet for swapping layers out for $2000.  There you are up to almost a Flobed...

Leo3: are you addressing me?  I'm currently sleeping on my Serta Perfect Night with occasional forays to the guest bed/husband's bed which is an older foam mattress with a Costco MF topper.  I guess I still haven't completely given up the dream of a latex mattress that would suit both of us because next week I am going to another city to check out the Essensia mattresses. Yes, the Flobed I had tried a few years ago was the blended Talalay.  Also, just recently I was intriqued by Flobeds customizable vZone (you couldn't customize it when I tried it out before) so 10 days ago I bought one and have been playing around with it on top of a pretty much brand new medium-firmness pocket coil twin mattress that we have in another guest bedroom.  It hasn't been any better for my back than the Serta...

I'll give you my thoughts here.  It's unfortunate we can't walk into a showroom and view these models side by side.

1) Whichever company you decide to go with, CALL them to discuss the blended vs natural issue.  The guy at Flobeds sleeps on a blended (I forget which one) and Sleepez flat out recommends the blended over the natural.   I have not had any issue with my blended.  I think the natural is a fine product too, and to me it comes down to whether the idea of all natural is important to you.  It will cost you a little extra at Sleepez.  At Flobeds it supposedly cost more, but when I talked to Dave/Dewey (I forget which) about the blended vs natural issue, he just offered me the natural at the same price as the blended.

2) COVER.  Now this is where it gets...

I have not tried the 100% botanical Talalay, though Eagle is a fan of it.  The owners and staff of Flobeds and Sleepez will tell you that they feel the same.  The owner of Flobeds has a blended Talalay bed.  The owners of Sleepez advocate blended as combining the best benefits of natural and synthetic.

Flobed/Sleepez Comparison - KimberlyH

Ok, tonight we put together the new Sleepez Twin bed for my daughter.  So now I have BOTH a Flobed (mine, queen size) and a Sleepez (twin, daughter's) and I can do a direct comparison.

First of all, let me say that both beds are blended Talalay latex, so that is the same.  They are both sourced from LI (or so Sean told me).

The bed I have from Flobeds is this one.  Three layers of Talalay latex plus a 2" convoluted topper, all encased in organic knit cotton cover quilted to 2" of wool.  This bed in a twin would be $1,299.00 plus shipping and tax (I live in California).  I don't know how much shipping would be for a twin; it was $99 for my queen size bed.

The bed I got from Sleepez is this one, with the

We received delivery of our California King SleepEZ 13000 Organic earlier this week. I ordered over the phone from Shawn, and was not really impressed with the customer service I received. Shawn was professional and friendly, but seemed to rush me through the ordering process. He didn't ask me any questions unless I prompted him and seemed hurried. I hung up feeling uncertain about my purchase. That uncertainty continued when a few days later I had not received any sort of email order confirmation or receipt for my purchase. Given I had charged over $2300 to my credit card, I was uncomfortable having no receipt of my purchase. I did however, receive a email notification of shipping from UPS, so at least I knew something was on it's way to me. I called SleepEZ and spoke to Shawn again to request a order confirmation or receipt be emailed to me....

I'm almost ready (I hope) to make a decision. I compared both SleepEZ's 10,000 and 13,000 models with FloBeds' Posture Select & Posture Deluxe models in both blended and natural/organic. I've made myself a pro/con/price chart between SleepEZ & FloBeds, and SleepEZ comes out way ahead on the price, which is a huge deal for me. Including foundation, legs and shipping, SleepEZ's top of the line product comes out for less $ than FloBeds' cheapest product. There are no sales right now at FloBeds, and I know people have said they followed the site daily and ended up getting refunds as sales occurred but I probably won't do that for 90 days.

Unless someone can tell me something that makes the $$$ difference worth it, lets assume I'm going with SleepEZ. But I have just a few more issues and hope anyone with experience can help me out.

Is your daughter's Sleepez bed the Natural Talalay, or did you just get the organic cover?  Your Flobeds is blended, as I recall - if your daughter's bed is Natural Talalay, they could feel a bit different, couldn't they?

My side is M/F/XF, and hubby's is S/M/F.  I thought my side felt too firm the first few nights, but I wasn't feeling well today so I took a nap... and no bed has ever felt as good to me as mine did this afternoon.  Hubby's side, although it feels good to me for a little while, is definitely too soft for me - I'm, er, well-upholstered.  That said, I will not rule out the possibility of adding an inch or two of soft natural Talalay topper down the road, "just for snuggles" (to quote my Granddaughter). Heck, I think I could fit another inch or two inside my...
