Foamsource has 100% natural talalay in 38-42 ILD.  I have purchased the 100% natural talalay from them.  I also own blended talalay.  In my opinion, the blended is a better product.  However they are very similar.  Good luck to you.

Forgot to mention that on my twin experiment I have a Dormeir wool mattress pad on top of the Talatech and then the wool comforter is on top of that....

What happened with me and the Flobed was very weird.  If it was soft enough for me to easily fall asleep and not feel any pressure, I woke up in what I call a smiley-banana shape where my waist/ribcage area sunk too much.  When I firmed it up by switching layers, it was difficult to fall asleep because of pressure and things like my downside arm and ear (yes, ear) would go numb.  But if I persevered and managed to fall asleep, about 4-5 hours later I would wake up in the smiley-banana shape again - it was as if my body heat and pressure (most of our body heat is in our mid-torso because that is where all the internal organs are) somehow softened up even the firmer latex under me to the point where I sank in too much.  Remember, I am only about 100 lb so this...

Anyhow, I live in the Bahamas, on a real small island.  No stores here, really.  I have done a lot of reading here but still am learning.  I think I am going to make do my own modular QUEEN mattress.  I want to buy it in 2-3" layers and am wondering how much latex to I really need?  5", 6"?  I weigh 160-170ish and am 5'9" - triangle body, muscular, big shoulders/chest , tiny waist....I like long walks on the beach....ohhh wait wrong site. :p

Here are my questions:

Okay, then how about a 1" 18ILD Talatech layer?

Closing in on a Purchase - Thoughts and advice needed. - Ser_renely

So I finally got to try out some mattresses out for the first time ever.  It was a pretty interesting experience.   Most of the places I went were pretty car salesmen oriented, but that is neither here nor there.

I went to three stores; my goal was not to try to buy anything, but rather to get a feel for what is firm, medium, soft, and what is in the mattress to make them such.  I plan to make a modular bed and really wanted to get a feel for what all the numbers felt like so when I order I will be getting the correct firmness and materials etc… I am not going the route of a spring bed, obviously.  My objective at this point is to make a bed that I can change in case I don’t like it, but with minimal money...

Long story ahead.  Skip to questions if you want.

So, after many years talking about getting a new mattress, my husband and I went shopping last weekend.  We found a mattress that felt really amazing, but decided to do some research first.  Here is a description of the mattress in question:

Mattress contains the following talalay latex layers: 1" Celsion Talalay Latex, which regulates body temperature so you can sleep comfortably, and 3" Talalay Latex Comfort Block, which relieves pressure on your body so you can rest easier and wake up more refreshed. A 6" Talalay Latex Core with Latex Rails creates proper support for your spinal column so you can sleep with less pain, while the 2" High Density Stabilizing Polyurethane Base Foam reduces motion transfer and stabilizes latex core. Includes intelli-gel foundation.

Concerns with this mattress:

It's a Serta, which...

shovel99, you were not nuts for thinking RMM. The RMM is 100% natural latex and SLAB is Talatech at the price you quoted. The 100% natural equivalent SLAB would have been $222. Need to compare apples to apples....
Fibro pain and latex toppers - sleepy_ella

I was wondering if anyone has had success, or knows of someone who has had success, easing nighttime fibromyalgia pain with latex toppers.  I'm shopping around for a firm mattress to use as my "base" so to speak, and I'd like to create a soft yet supportive sleeping surface with latex.  I have a bunch of talatech samples and am having trouble settling on a perfect combination.  Does anyone know how you're supposed to gauge which set-up is best using samples?  Applying pressure with my hand doesn't seem like it would give a very accurate indication of how it would feel to lie on top of them.  If I rest my head on the layered samples, what feels most comfortable is 4" of graduated firmness, 19, 24, 28, 32 ILD.  Has anyone tried a similar set-up?

Any advice appreciated!
