Re: Firmness comparision - talalay vs Dunlop - jimsocal

I think I answered this already but yeah, they go by the same ILD scale but Dunlop FEELS a lot firmer. For me Dunlop is intolerable, at least at 32ILD it is.

There was a whole thread on SleepEZ vs. Flobeds just a few weeks ago with that title. Look for it.

As for the same manufacturer I am not sure. I am pretty sure they do both sell some Latex International. Pretty sure flobeds no longer sells Dunlop processed latex but don't quote me on that. SleepEZ does sell Dunlop made by Latex Green. But to be sure, always call or write and ask them. I think Flobeds has options for Natural or Talatech Talalay, but again, check to see. I'm sure it's on their web site. If not they are very welcoming to inquiries by phone. SleepEZ could be a little hard to reach...

Thank you very much for the response. The Olivia Plush/Firm uses alternating rows of 13.75 gauge coils and braided 17 gauge coils from what I have been told. The salesman at one of the "more" trustworthy shops says that the Black line uses upholstery grade foam for cushioning layers. It is listed as visco memory foam and transflexion foam, not sure what that consists of. From what I understand pretty much every mattress made uses some polyurethane foam. It seems to me then that it would depend on the quality of the foam, which unless someone were in the industry it would be pretty hard to know. I like the idea of the Springfree latex, but I am getting a little turned off by some of the reviews I have read and by the fact that they use dunlop latex instead of talalay.

Why not get 2" of the 24ILD, then add more if you need it.  But you might find you would rather have a 1" of say 19ILD if you find 24ILD not soft enough.  Not sure if you said your weight, but the heavier you are the higher ILD you will want (from what I have been told).  Like if you are over 200 lbs. they recommend 32ILD for top layer.  Edit: okay I see you did say your weight, so what you said in option #5 (I think it was) sounds okay, except 3" for top may or may not work.

Dunlop is firm, so you may need 32ILD over that, and then the 24ILD of the natural or blended talalay on top.  See if you can get samples.  I didn't get samples of Dunlop and it is firm.  I did get samples of natural and blended...

Re: Latex mattress that doens't "canoe"? - eagle2

This is the first time that I have heard the term "canoe" associated with latex mattresses, or any mattress for that matter, that had formed body impressions.

I have happily owned a FloBeds 100% natural, botanically grown, Talalay process, latex mattress for almost 10 months now. I have not experienced any kind of body impressions in my California King mattress. I am 6'2" tall and weigh approximately 200 pounds.

budgy knows what it's talking about as he is a retail mattress business owner. You need to do a lot more reading about what constitutes "natural latex" 100% naturally grown latex, blended latex, and synthetic latex. There are a lot of differences.

But purchase from one of the reputable dealers that are referenced on this site, quite frequently, such as FloBeds, Savvy Rest, SleepEZ, Habitat, and Foam Sweet Foam, and you should not go wrong...

I have both a Flobeds and a Sleepez mattress, and can directly compare the two covers.  IMO the Flobed cover is much nicer than the Sleepez and has more wool.  The Sleepez only has wool quilted to the top of the cover, whereas the Flobed has the same wool quilted cotton knit on all sides of the cover.

However, they are both quality mattresses.

Decisions about one vs the other would be made on the basis of whether

~you want the 2" soft topper covering your latex cores

~you prefer the idea and feel of a soft knit cover to a woven cover

~you like the idea of the wool quilted all around the mattress instead of just on top

~ you feel the extras you get with Flobeds is worth the extra cost.

Some of...

All of this information is on the Flobeds and Sleepez website.  You can do your homework and at least look at their websites before coming here.  Both Flobeds and Sleepez sell both Dunlop and Talalay latex.  They both source their Talalay from LI.  Both sell Dunlop, 100% natural Talalay, and blended Talalay latex mattresses.

There are differences between the Flobeds and Sleepez mattresses.  The Flobeds mattress will be three layers of 3" latex plus a 2" soft topper.  The Sleepez mattress will be three layers of 3" latex (if you get the 10000 model, or four layers of 3" latex if you get the 13000 model).  Sleepez doesn't put a soft 2" topper on top of their mattress like Flobeds does.

Flobeds has a different mattress cover, it soft knit cotton with, IMO, more wool, quilted on all sides of the cover.  The Sleepez mattress cover...

Re: What is the closest latex bed to a Flobed product, something I could - KimberlyH

Not only is it the case that the major "S" brand mattresses are not 100% latex, I believe that the latex they use is 100% synthetic, not 100% natural or blended latex like LI manufactures.

When I was shopping for my latex mattress, I REALLY had to hunt around for a mattress I could try.  I found two local (within an hour drive) companies that manufacture their own latex beds, and I found two national brands I could try - Land and Sky, which makes dunlop latex beds, and I think it was called Sweda, made by Lady Americana.  You might try those.  They are not exactly the same feel as a 100% Talalay latex bed, but closer than what you will get from a major S brand.

Also, Vera Wang makes several latex mattresses.  Some of them are part latex, but I've heard that the...

I think you made a good choice with the 100% natural talalay.   You also have to be careful with the firmness descriptions.  Sleepez tends to be a little firmer than most.  From the Sleepez website their soft is 19-22, medium 30-32, and firm 38-40.   I think my XF from Flobeds was 36ILD, so that is even a bit softer than Sleepez's firm.  Medium at Foamsweetfoam is 24-28.

I think your combination is pretty good if you like a slightly plush feel for side sleeping.  That is probably the combination I would order for myself.  If you need a pretty firm mattess due to back issues, then I could see how you might want it a bit firmer.

I need a soft bed, so S/M/F felt wonderful but caused a lower backache, I called FloBeds and was told to try M/S/F. They said it firms up the bed (either 7% or 17%, sorry can't remember which), and the layers would be fine. My layers are 3" Natural Talalay.

If the M/S/F feels really good to you keep it for a few more nights to be certain. I've found that one or two nights on any configuration is not enough time to be sure if it's right. You can always call Sleepez just to reassure yourself about the layer compression.

Hope you find the comfort you love,

Natalie
