Okay... update on springs...
I can't get the Original Mattress Factory mattress because I live in California.
I went shopping at local stores today. Remember I'm not really shopping for a mattress, just the springs, but I will buy a mattress and just dissect it after I try it out for a while and decide it needs better / different foam on top of the springs. As far as I know, you can't buy just springs, and if I did it would have no box wrapped around them, etc....
So I checked out Ortho just because it was close and they had a sign up as if they were having a big sale. Yeah, right...
I walked in and the guy in there (there was only one as far as I could tell) was a complete ass. He knew nothing about the mattresses and when I asked if they had a spec sheet...

Thanks, jankkdc! Those are a couple of the posts I was remembering, though there was still one someone wrote me specifically about how I needed springs but I can't find that one.
In any case I am convinced I do need springs now. Now I just need to figure out which mattress to buy. I will consider your Original Mattress Factory mattress. So it's still good for you? Someone else mentioned they went for the model "up" from the Legacy, the Ortho Extra. Did you try that one? Why did you go with the Legacy instead? I am inclined to go with the Legacy if you say it works for you.
One comment you made is EXACTLY what I am experiencing. You wrote :

Just wondering if anyone has actually gone ahead and returned a new mattress at the Original Mattress Factory, and paid the 25% fee to get a different model, and how that experience was. I recall Zzzzzzpleazzzzsaying she was going to try to return her ultra plush ortho for a extra firm a while back, but no follow up on this site. I have an extra firm ortho and still find it a bit uncomfortable, and would like some feedback on how OMF handles such a situation. WIth the help of a fiberbed, I have enhanced and improved my bed and the quality of sleep though....

Regarding your post on being still in the process of "breaking" in you OMF mattress: I have had mine now for about 2 and 1/2 months, and am STILL trying to break it in. You are so right about the ones in the store being so much more comfortable....and customers don't spend 8 hours a day on every bed!...Makes me wonder....
I do love the support and quality of the Ortho. extra firm I purchased, but have had to add a fiber bed to "soften" it up. And that has been working out. Amazing how we find ourselves buying a bed, at a considerable expense, and then paying more to doctor it up once we get it home. Good luck and keep us posted as to your success and hope you sleep better....

Dear Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzplease...I recall a month ago you relayed you soon to be delivered purchase of an OMF ortho-extra firm bed, and were eagerly awaiting its arrival around the teens of july. Have you received it yet and what do you think? I would genuinely like some feedback from another user of the same mattress I purchased in late may. I see you are searching for toppers, so I gather that you too may need some added softness to you bed. Mine is still too, too hard and uncomfortable by itself. And I purchased 2 inch fiberbed to solve the problem. I believe you also commented on that too. How is your bed working out for you? And do you know of anyone who purchased those special "latex" pillows that they sell? I am tempted to try one....

I have some input regarding mattress toppers. In late May I purchased a queen, Original Mattress Factory orthopedic extra firm set, and have been desperately trying to adapt to it. I have had back surgery, so I thought I needed the "hardest" thing on the market. Wrong!!! Until this past monday, I have been in a great deal of pain throughout the night because my mattress is too firm.
I turned and flipped it as told by the store, but it didn't help. I used to have a featherbed on my old bed (which was very soft and non supportive) and I loved the firm difference that the featherbed made. But, thanks to a tip from this site, noting that featherbeds are rather "hard", I ordered a "down alternative" fiberbed from HSN last week. I put it on the bed this monday, and had the first "heavenly" nights sleep I've...

Actually, the exchange fee is 25-50% depending on the model you're exchanging your mattress for. I imagine that an "upgrade" would cost you 50% of the original price, while the 25% would apply to a less expensive model. Just my theory, though, you'd have to speak to someone at OMF about it.
I've been waffling on the mattress issue since I have a one year period in which to make an exchange...there's no rush, so I'm taking my time with this. I've been thinking about exchanging the entire set for a flame retardant-free ortho firm set, but that requires a doctor's note. Not sure if it's worth the hassle and extra expense, however, I have been experiencing more migraines lately and the increased frequency does coincide with the purchase of my OMF mattress set, so this is something I need to discuss with my doctor...

Mbubba, I think Mequon Jim is right about the Sensus/Venus swap. Sensus is pink and 5 lbs./cubic ft. The Overstock Venus should be indigo blue. Whichever I decide to go with, I don't think I'm going to go through Overstock. I've read too many sketchy descriptions of their Venus toppers, and for some strange reason the manufacturer is advertised as "Praxis". Foamex makes the authentic Sensus/Venus foam.

Marybeth, I'm glad you've found a topper that is working well for you. :-) I've had good experiences with fiber beds in the past and plan to use the one I've got in storage currently (Cuddle Bed) with an OMF ortho extra firm set.
