Really, people do this? And really, people actually are interested in what the outcome is. Really? I thought it was bad enough I read through this. Please don't tell me you told anyone else except this forum what you do in your spare time. No offense, but seriously....

HI S. You can read my experience here: Sealy Posturepedic Reserve, Firm - Reserve, Queen size, Firm
I had a $500 or so Serta that lasted for seven or so years and served me well. Instead of letting the company of my new bed haul it away, I kept it, and I decided to tear it apart to look inside. From bottom up:
(1) a little over 12 springs/ sq foot.
(2) 1/2" layer of cotton batting
(3) 1/2" layer of polyurethane (PU)
(4) padded quilted cover (probably some PU in it)
Compare with my new firm Sealy Posturepedic Reserve
(1) 25 springs per square foot.
(2) a thin 1/8" sheet of a polyethylene.
(3) 1" layer of egg-crated polyurethane foam (dense.)
(4) a 2.5" layer of egg-crated polyurethane foam (soft) with a strip of Visco memory foam 1/2" x 19.5" x 59" going across the hip section.
(6) There is an edge guard running around the perimeter of...

I question the effectiveness, for support, of switching layers like you did. Have you tried taking out the 20ILD and sleeping on the 36ILD? Also, I also get lower back pain if I don't have enough support. In my Sealy, each time I took out a layer of polyurethane the better it got. I took it all out and replaced it with medium latex. Much better.
I am curious if anyone has tried slicing up a layer of foam and putting a firmer layer in at only the mid section of the bed, from knee to the small of your back, for support. Would you feel the bed is lopsided? I am currently sleeping with two 1" layers of medium firm (32ILD) latex over the springs. It's pretty good but I thought replacing just the lower level latex only at the midsection with a firmer latex might be perfect. Anybody try...

Hello all, there is a dealer around here called Mattress Firm that I have been checking out for a new mattress. They offer a 90 day comfort guarantee and have Sealy and Simmons mattresses. I am looking for a 'plush' mattress and have narrowed it down to the following
Sealy Posturepedic Seaview Pines Plush--Queen listed at 899
Sealy Posturepedic English Arbour Plush--Queen listed at 1099
Simmons Beautyrest Lilac Plush--Queen listed at 699
Has anyone dealt with this company before? If so how was your experience?
I know that these 3 mattresses probably have about 20 different names from different retailers, but I am going to assume that they are all the same in the 'plush' category in this price range from these manufacturers.
Is this a safe price range to shop in? These are the prices listed on the site http://www.mattressfirm.com/Mattresses.aspx
What kind of price can I expect to negotiate...

Hi All,
I found this website from it's sister website "what's the best hot tub" and have some questions.
We have a Simmons mattress that's about 11 years old and we believe that it's time to replace it. We went shopping today and found a Simmons "Hamlet" that is sold by the Sleepys chain that we thought was comfortable and are considering purchasing. We also looked at Sealy and Serta but liked the Simmons better. The Simmons that we like is from the Beauty Rest line vs "world class" but has a viscus foam layer that seems to be an option at this level. The comfort level is a plush firm. We don't like the Tempur-pedic mattresses but I'm thinking a little memory foam may make the bed more comfortable.
We did bring some pricing from the internet with us but it seams (which I was prepared for) that cross referencing is a...

Howdy. I just found this site and it appears as if many of you are versed in mattress comfort. I am 5'5" 128 pounds--a relatively fit and healthy person who has never had sleep problems until recently getting rid of an old mattress and boxspring (traditional boxspring, flippable--my boyfrend and I slept on this little full size thing for 10 years!--Unfortunately I don't know what kind of mattress it was--i.e. firmness, etc. although I know it was an S brand).
Anyhow we purchased a 100% natural latex mattress from a local bedmaker-Mulligan's Mattresses--he claims it was Dunlop (however, I saw some packaging in his store that was Talalay and when I questioned him he was vague--. We also purchased a platform frame from West Elm.
Anyhow, my spouse thought this new get-up was the most comfortable sleep he had ever had (queen sized, medium fimness with softer 2" topper).
While...

My girl friend and I have been shopping for a Queen mattress. I have visited several stores and the price of mattresses have really surprised me. I don't seem to have a whole lot of preference toward innerspring or latex but don't particularly care for the memory foam beds. Part of that could be my fear of it being hot to sleep on.
For the most part we both end up liking the firmer models. I am a back sleeper about 5'9" 210 lbs. and she is mostly back sleeper but occasionally side and is 5'2" 120 lbs. Even the medium ones seem to let your but sag down a lot and we both agree that they seem a little too soft. The only mattresses that I have thought were too firm was the firmest Sealy Latex (salesmen said it was a very firm model and was not comfortable selling it to the average customer) and a...

Recently, i just bought the Stearn's & Foster Estate Collection king size mattress from Sleepy's. It is a lux firm mattress w/ 1" of memory foam. After a few days, I've noticed some deep body impressions on my side of the bed. I'm 5' 7" - 160lbs, my gf is 5' 95 lbs. I have a few weeks to make decision if I want to keep it or not, but I'm kinda hesitant. Is it really that difficult to find a good mattress?
If I decide to exchange it, what you guys recommend? I'm looking for a mattress that has good support but has alittle softness. Probably, in between a firm and a plush mattress. I'm hesitant getting another mattress that has memory foam b/c of the sinkage. Will I get the same depressions w/ innerspring mattresses w/ latex foam?
Here are my options:
1. Stearns & foster w/ latex foam instead of...

Like many of you, I've come here looking to get the most out of the $1000 - $2000 I'm about to spend on a bed for me and my wife. We currently have a innerspring plush pillow top, and it's not working out for us - both of us are getting back pain while sleeping and then after we wake up. We decided that we want a firmer bed, and I've been looking at Latex beds. I went to a local store, and tried out the three Sealy Spring Free beds they have, and two of them were way too soft while the Weybridge was perfect. It was $1899 after $400 rebate, so it's definately pricey, especially considering I went to the Original Mattress Factory and found an innerspring I liked for $670. Nevertheless, I like the idea of a latex bed, and a...
