Okay... update on springs...
I can't get the Original Mattress Factory mattress because I live in California.
I went shopping at local stores today. Remember I'm not really shopping for a mattress, just the springs, but I will buy a mattress and just dissect it after I try it out for a while and decide it needs better / different foam on top of the springs. As far as I know, you can't buy just springs, and if I did it would have no box wrapped around them, etc....
So I checked out Ortho just because it was close and they had a sign up as if they were having a big sale. Yeah, right...
I walked in and the guy in there (there was only one as far as I could tell) was a complete ass. He knew nothing about the mattresses and when I asked if they had a spec sheet...

I have a Sealy springfree, one comfort level up from the Weybridge. You can go to this blogsite to read all about Sealy mattresses but esp. the latex: http://blog.pennlive.com/mattress/ It's run by Sealy mattress seller in PN and he does a pretty good job describing all the Sealy products and making recomendations within his brand; he is esp. fond of the Weybridge for most people. I read his blog and this one before I purchased my springfree. It's about 3 years old and I'll tell you what I know. The base latex is not LI but is from their own manufacturing. It is not tallalay and feels closer to dunlop to me. The 3 inch latex on top is softer and may come from LI but I'm not sure. It has a styrofoam edging to keep it from slumping when you sitting on the edge. I know all this...

"Your bed isn't perfectly square, so you cant rotate the cores. Do you have a center support on your frame? How many legs does it have? Oh, and how much does your cat weigh? lol.

Well, my cat is 18 lbs so I'm not denying he may be a contributing factor! Yea, I do have a center support (so three vertically oriented supports) and then full coverage horizontal boards with no gap > a quarter of an inch. I can stand on it. I don't think it's the frame.
"So let me try again.
The business you mention about the crack between the split pieces is a concern of mine as well. However many people have told me not to worry as the friction between the pieces keeps them from giving you a problem. You of course, have your own personal experience, and would beg to differ. Flowbeds seems to...

I may stop by Sleepy's again to test their mattress again. I swear this thing is firmer than what they offered. From things I've read, here and otherwise, the firmness and lifespan of memory foam seems to scale with density. Could the Sealy Tempurpedic foam have the same variable weight problems that I encountered and they just ignore it? Just a question, I have nothing more than a two month old memory of a store mattress to go on, and I certainly doubt they'd let me weigh it without paying for it. But how many people even know to ask what the foam should weigh? And how many of them will actually weigh their mattress? Or I could be totally off base, it wouldn't be the first time.
Anyway, it's been a week. I cannot start thinking about cutting for at least three more weeks. But here's what we...

Also the Sealy has a good core of Latex in them, unlike some of the other brands. I've heard good things about it, but would love to hear some more opinions....

Do you remember what the comfort level (and name if you remember) of your Sealy Springfree bed was? The Weybridge (also know as Brasswood Firm at US-Mattress) is 3.5, and the Garden Vine Plush (US Mattress name) is a 5.0. After trying out the Garden Vine Plush at a local store it seems like a good firmness level and it is also cheaper than the Brasswood. According to the specs the Brasswood has an extra layer of latex instead of the cheaper foam, and that's why it's more expensive and firmer too. The Garden Vine Plush has a layer of foam, is softer and cheaper too. Turn the Garden Vine Plush over and you have the same as the Brasswood Firm (at least that's what CC-Mattress is saying on the Blog).
So....that's why I am wondering what the comfort level of your bed is - that will tell me what bed on US-Mattress...
New poster needs advice on Latex mattress - not a DIY - KimberlyH

Hi all, new poster here. I'm shopping for a new mattress, and after first considering the Tempur bed, I'm now worried about making such a large investment in a mattress that has such polarizing opinions about it.
I'm now thinking about trying a latex mattress. I'm leery of buying a mattress I haven't tried out online, and I don't want a DIY mattress project, I want one I can try locally and buy ready made.
What seems to be available in my area is the Sealy Spring Free, the Sealy PurEmbrace (I don't understand the difference between these two lines) and the Healthy Back BackTex (which is a rebranded Spring Free as far as I can tell). I tried the BackTex P5 (plush) in the Healthy Back store and loved it, though my husband said it was too "marshmallow-y" and he wouldn't buy it.
Another brand that seems to be locally available is...

I am searching for a Latex mattress as well.
What I am learning is that the Big-3 S's advertise latex mattresses, but when you look at the layers, there is only "some" latex - like 2-3" only, the rest being PU or fiber padding on top. This will lead to faster breakdown.
So check out the true composition of the mattress. The dealer doesn't always know. Look at Mfg websites and US-Mattress.com which often has layers described.
I'm focusing on Flobeds right now. Still researching....
Bed that won't "lump" in the middle - fender4645

Hi all. My wife and I have a cal king Sealy (not sure what kind) standard spring with a pillow top. We've had it about 5 years but after a year, a distinct "lump" formed down the middle. Basically, right in between where we both sleep. We're looking for a new bed and we want one that won't create such a lump. We've thought about going all out with a Tempur-Pedic but I've heard those sleep pretty hot. My sister has a King Koil with a built-in foam top that she swears by. Does anyone have any recommendations? Don't really trust the sleep store salesmen since I'm sure if a lump formed, it would be out of warranty.
Thanks!...
Thanks!...

Thanks for posting Blago97.
Last week I went into a Sleeptrain and was considering purchasing the Sealy Glen Marie. It was listed for $1449. I told the salesman that that was too expensive and I want a better deal. He looked online and supposedly found it for about $1200 at Mattress Discounters. After the 5% discount it came out to $1140 + tax. He said he had to bypass some warning message and that his manager wouldn't be too happy about this. He said he'd also include the boxspring and bedframe.
You're telling me I could have gotten it for $800 out the door??? And that they paid only like $400 for it??????
Now I know what price I can really get it for.
Thanks for posting this info. And does anyone know where I can find a comfortable and afordable latex mattress?...
