Re: Simmons BeautyRest - Early Sag? Deficient Frame? Or, Spine Problem? (Is a doctor in the house?) - cloud9

Without examining the mattress and the frame it's difficult to come to a conclusion. If you have a relative living nearby your mother ask them to take a look at the bed while your mother is lying on it. A sagging frame should be evident if someone is looking under the bed. If that's the case the store should replace it with something more sturdy. However most full size frames don't offer the center support features that queen and king frames do.
The mattress should also be examined for surface "body impressions", as the industry likes to refer to them -- or sags to the rest of us. Unfortunately the policy of most manufacturers is that depressions of less than 3" are considered "normal." And this is a visual 3" too, never mind that 3" visual inches is easily twice that when you lie on the bed. If you read this forum...

A little of both. Yes, there are definitely coils that will give it a firmer or more conforming feel. I originally started out with the individually, pocketed coil (Marshall)..the type used in Simmons. My mattress guy and I came to the conclusion that this type of coil system was just TOO conforming for my back. So, replaced it with the LuraFlex open offset coil. It's somewhere in the middle; more conforming than the Bonnell coil, for instance. Of course, it also depends on the count. I kind of wish my guy had ordered a higher count for me. A 14 gauge in a LuraFlex is going to be different than a 14 gauge in a Bonnell or continuous. Those seem to be more like 12-13.
And, each mattress company will often use different gauge, type and count coils in different models.
As someone mentioned, the type of padding that is...

We ended up with an Englander Tension Ease (pocketed coil) model that is firm/firm plush and are looking for the perfect comfort layer for it. We almost bought the Lady Englander because of the heavy duty springs, but then decided to go for a latex mattress from another store. When the latex didn’t work out, we were locked into a comfort exchange from this same store which did not carry the Lady Englander line. Since pillowtops and mattresses with a lot of padding built in (according to hundreds of online reviews and complaints) end up breaking down in a short amount of time, we decided to add our own. The salesperson told us that he has had several people do the same thing: buying a firm innerspring then customizing the top layer themselves.
It seems that if you were a heavy person, and found that latex or memory foam didn’t work...
Costco Sealy "Sedona Springs Ultra Plush" mattress...I'm at my wit's end with mattresses! - centralpark

First off, I should reveal that I prefer sleeping on my back or on my stomach. I'm about 5'6", in the 130 pound range. I slept on a Sealy Posturepedic mattress for about 19 years that never gave me a problem (I added a foam topper to it), but I let the mattress delivery men take it away when my new Simmons Beautyrest Exceptionale plush mattress was delivered a year or so ago. If I had known then what I know now about the mattressses of today, I would have happily kept my old mattress. The Beautyrest was uncomfortable and didn't provide enough back support...when I slept on my stomach, my back was arching forward too much. I tried a Simmons Westin Heavenly Bed which is a pillowtop mattress that receives rave reviews...I would wake up every morning with lower back pain, but as soon as I got out of bed, the back pain disappeared. When I would wake up on that mattress, I...

Another update -- and I don't work for IKEA; but they're having a sale right now. Bought my mattress in December, but I managed to claim a refund of the difference on my mattress purchase price without any hassle. 25% off is a pretty big deal!...

Cloud9,

You might want to take a look at this. I wrote to Matt at Foamsource and he told me the Nu-rest topper comes from a company named Arpico. It's 15% natural and 85% synthetic. I think the zoning is 22-28-22 ILD. It is another one I'm considering, but wondering if the 28 ILD would be enough pressure relief for my hips (as a side sleeper). Mattress mom seems the most familiar with Dunlop. What does she think?
Arpico is a major Dunlop supplier from Sri Lanka - probably the biggest of the reputable suppliers. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) Take a look at the web sites for Arpico, Latexco, Dunlopillo, Latex International and Sleep Comp.

I don't really know that much about the Dunlop manufacturers. I just know the big names and that I like to sleep on an ILD around the mid...
Want to hear from foam experts with bad backs.... - jimsocal

I have bad back/neck/shoulder problems from a car accident 3 years ago, and no one has been able to help me fix it. I just live with pain, AND with tingling in my arms at night.
Just for background info, 4-5 years ago my wife and I tried them all:
Simmons, Sealy, Spring Air, Flobeds, Latex, Tempurpedic, etc.. None of them helped me with my back pain, and in the end we started using high-density foam and latex to create our own combinations. Of these, I hated Tempurpedic the most, I hate Simmons because they go bad so fast, the Spring Air just wasn't good, and the Flobeds was probably the best of the lot.
However, that also did not work and in the end we bought 2 twin Sealys because they seemed as good as anything else and we got a good price and were tired of messing with it. We got...

1. First, she got two Extra Firm latex mattresses - paid $1600- $1800, top-name brand (I forget which) and sent them both back to store, within two weeks each. Nature's Bed from Rooms To Go-- Getting a deal - auart
Jan 21, 2008 5:51 PM
A good friend of mine who is an attorney bought a King set a couple years ago to put in a guest room. It is a Natures bed (RTG Brand made apparently by Simmons?) Branded, PRINCESS LATEX SLEEP SYSTEM, which is what is on the mattress.Well, he just got married and the new wife is moving in and no room for the KING Bed in the spare room. THE Bed has NEVER had ANYONE sleep on it, just a spare and never been slept on once.
Well, I go look at it and he said he thought it was a Foam mattress... I looked under the covers and see it is Latex. I don't have the specs on it, and cant find them of course online since it is an old model (2 yrs), BUT, when I flip up to look at the underneath side of the mattress there is no...
