Zortania, I know how you feel since when Rockaway Bedding Delivered the Simmons Roosevelt Mattress, I was amazed at how I could not breath when I was in the same room as the mattress. I tried airing it out and covering it but sleeping on it made me cough and get so hot and nauseous. I had to sleep on the floor in my storage room and was better there despite my allergies to dust and dustmites than in my own bedroom that had that mattress. I guess they use a lot of fire retardent chemicals and the polyurthane outgassing in a smaller space than in a store must just bother people like you and me that must be chemically sensitive. I used to always have a stuffy nose on my very old spring mattress but nothing like I experienced with the new bed that I had to send back...

I do not feel well but it looks like I will not get much work done anyway so I will try to respond to this question and then make sure I am in bed early tonight.
I would not go with the adjustable foundation. I went with the split pine slat foundation with 10" legs and this is just fine. But at first the pine smell bothered me (did not bother my allergies but I just do not like any smell when I am sleeping but most new stuff has a smell at first ... even the natural latex cores I had to air out for a few days but then they never bothered me and never bothered my allergies) but after several days it went away and now I no longer smelled the pine smell.
The less latex core layers the firmer your surface will be since you will be closer to the slat foundation. ...

Congratulations, novahelp! I hope the added cushioning will make if perfect for you! Keep us posted down the line, okay?
Got the latest mattress yesterday, a Serta. It's great. Supportive and yielding. Maybe it will only last 2 yrs, at this point that's fine with me! I slept on it last night with no foam and it was acceptable. I will likely add 2 or 3" of some memory foam (or maybe keep a soft latex foam layer from the Sleepez kit) to give it a bit more cushioning and it will be great.

It feels significantly different than the mattress I tried in the showroom. Much firmer which is GOOD. But it made me realize what a waste of time it is bothering to test a mattress in the store! They are all being pounced on for years, so they are pretty much useless as...

Hi folks,
I took a long time off due to an internet stalker that had nothing to do with this forum. I know the person in real life and had to get that handled. The loooong story with my latex bed is a comedy of errors. My salesman (who is a truly nice guy) did not accept a first inspection and called for a second one. That inspection proved that yes, the core was shot. By then we were sinking well below the sides of the mattress and I had actually injured my back trying to get out of bed one morning. We traded that in for a Beautyrest Exceptionale plush. Within a week the top layer of coils was sliding off the bottom layer. Since the bed was so comfy, we decided to replace it with the same model. guess what is happening only a month later? Yes, the top...

They are all being pounced on for years, so they are pretty much useless as test models. In hindsight, I should have just ordered any Serta Plush mattress as this was the mattress type I had been using for many...

I've suspected the same thing myself and I think there might be something to it. When I was mattress shopping I inspected the tags of the one I was considering and it said "Floor Model" right there. Why would it say that if it was no different from any other mattress? When I got mine delivered and lay down on it it felt softer in the center than the one I had tried out in the store for a good two hours! I don't think it was my imagination. I have to wonder if the floor models are made with HR foam rather than the cheap PU foam they put in the regular mattresses, just to make them feel more substantial and hold up better while customers test them out.
Some floor models are there for YEARS. When I was considering the W Hotel bed (Simmons beautyrest...

Well, I see Simmons still makes the JUNK they have always made... I had a Simmons once and it was pure junk, went bad after about a year.
If I were you I would buy the bed with the least amount of foam padding, the best springs, and then as soon as it goes bad - probably within the year - do surgery on it.
See my thread on doing surgery to my Sealy mattress. This has worked out great for my wife and I. We now both have configurations we are very happy with. It costs very little and you have total control over your bed when you rebuild it yourself over the springs!...
Re: SleepEZ 8500 - Dunlop or Talalay Blended 65/35? - Philly888

If I had it to do over I would go with the Dunlop. For me Talalay was too pushy and jiggly. At the softer ILDs it never felt stable enough to provide adequate support. At the firmer ILDs it exerted so much pressure on my body I ached all over. This experience really surprised me having slept on Dunlop latex for many years prior to getting a Talalay bed, and having loved it. Dunlop will give you much better support at much softer ILDs. While I wouldn't go so far as to say it feels like PU foam--it's still rubber--like PU, it is passive rather than active in that it has a less demanding resilience to it. I found the SleepEZ 10,000 Talalay mattress in the medium/firm/xtra firm configuration to be so resilient it was painful. I would ask Shawn how that configuration would correspond to Dunlop.
You do get one comfort exchange with SleepEZ, so...
Re: Has anyone used "Foam by Mail" latex topper? - bob100

Thanks to this forum I purchased a foam by mail 2 inch soft latex topper and have slept comfortably since (well for about a week anyway).
I see that the OP ordered already but in case others are considering purchasing here is my story.
Originally I ordered a Simmons cal king firm spring mattress that turned out to be way to firm. After some research I went ahead and ordered a foam by mail topper. It arrived within about a week and turned out to be very comfortable. Unfortunately I have no idea if the specs are the same as foambymail.com or not, but it looks like good quality and covers the entire mattress. As stated on their website the cal king has 4 inches or so glued to make the proper size but the join is very strong and hardly noticeable.
Not sure about a full mattress, but I'd definitely recommend...

Runerroad, I saw you post on epinion.com from Mar 14, 08. . . it's below. Are you a salesman? (naughty naughty!)This is a great mattress set. We got a king size set. This was our first mattress from verlo. Our last one was a Simmons and it was a no flip set by 6 months we had 2 people size holes in the mattress and they came to look at it and told us there was nothing they could do. That was a $1200 mistake. Now that we have our verlo we have no problems. It is so nice to flip our bed and keep it flat. The sales man was very smart and knew his product well. Every thing we great. I will never own another mattress set from any one else. I am getting my kids beds there once we get our tax return...
