Jim, I'm intrigued by your point about the latex being good if it were turned over but I'm completely new to the idea of surgery. I wish you were
closer by.

If I were to be able to take a photo of the inside of my mattress would you be able to tell what the ILD is?

Many thanks.

One cannot tell an ILD from looking at it, one has to feel it. Even then, it takes someone very familiar with latex. I could guess but might be off by as much as 5 ILD which is too much. An expert could probably guess it within 1-2 ILD, I am guessing.

As to mattress surgery, unless you really need to keep the mattress what have you got to lose?

My first surgery was on a Sealy. I had no idea if I would end up with anything usable or not....

Not sure about the Bamboo, but often if you call someone and let them talk, you'll get the whole story.
My bet is that the others are being sold because they are pillowtops and they have body indentations, even tho they are nearly new.  Such is the way of beds.
You should be able to research each bed online separately.
If you get one of the pillowtops, choose which one has the springs you like the feel of because you will probably be doing mattress surgery on it.  Oh, and check out bedbugs.  They are apparently a problem these days and you sure don't want those things in your bed!!!

Hey, Alexander!
I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate your being on the site with your knowledge of the beds out there and the bedding industry in general.  The dissatisfaction you hear from us is frustration from having wasted money time and again, knowing that there are beds out there that feel good, but unable to sort through the bs to find one.  Other than you, there is only one other bed-person online to ask questions of, and he's quite biased toward Sealy and Stearns & Foster.  It is supremely helpful to many of us to be able to figure out what is in a certain bed we've tried that worked great, and to be able to re-create the feelign in our own bed.  Many of us, especially those who have performed mattress surgery, myself included, have lost faith that any of the big guys offer any product that...
Re: latex or memory foam? - Alexander

Hello Fubu,

The comparitively thin layer of memory foam found in the model you're looking at will not overly affect the temperature at which the bed sleeps. The ticking of the bed will have a greater impact. That model does not sleep excessively warm.

That said, if temperature is a defining need in your mattress purchase and you tend to sleep warm naturally I'd recommend something with a bamboo or silk top. The Sealy Natural Origins series is comparably priced to the World Class. If you can find the 7-turn model instead of the 5-turn it'll even have a similar feel albeit a touch softer.

Goodluck!

George,

If you decide to go with a firm model just make sure that the core is still Talalay. Oftentimes the differences between a plush and firm is a PE core in the firm. You want an all latex bed.

Desperate for sleep - Herniated disc sufferer looking for mattress/topper solution - bedhater
Sep 18, 2009 7:06 AM
Last spring I started experiencing back issues. Since hubby was too, we thought it was time for a new mattress. After it was ordered, but before it was delivered, I stopped sleeping through the night. That was May 27 - for the most part I get no more than 3-4 hours of sleep per night since then. I soon discovered I have a herniated disc - L/4-L/5 that I am trying to survive without surgery. Hope that the new bed - a Sealy Boheme Plush - would help me sleep didn't last long. It was waaay too soft. After a few months we traded it in for a Sealy Dorinda Plush Firm. Not to sound like Goldilocks, but it was too hard. I could barely eek out 3 hours of sleep on it at first. After a couple weeks we...

Actually apparently the Serta bamboo thrive is brand new in plastic, no box spring and apparently has no defects.  How is it so cheap then? It seems too good to be true. Does anyone know how Mattress sellers work and where they get their mattresses?...
Buying a second hand mattress (Sealy posturepedic, Simmons dreamscapes Cierra or Serta Bamboo thrive?) - Byron7777

Hi,

In the classifieds in my city there are one of each of the above mattresses with box springs being sold between $300 and $400.

I don't know much about beds and i'd like to know which is best. They are all apparently fairly new.

I guess I like a fairly firm mattress but overall comfort is maybe more important. Again, the mattresses are all similar in price. What's the best one? and best deal? Could I get a little info on each?

Much appreciated. Thank you.

Byron. Montreal....
