$572 for Simmons is O.K and their coils are well made but you might have picked a very firm one.

Your local Walmart or Department store should carry some kind of regular egg-crate foam.

Air inflated mattresses can be adjusted to your body at very small increments till you get the right support & contouring rather than adding or reducing layers of foam.

Reconsider your budget for a good night's sleep.

Re: Beginner Questions - inquisitive

HI all,

Am doing research to get a mattress and I thought the above few threads gave some great advice. I'm thinking about the following possibilities (all mentioned above) and have some questions:

1. get a firm mattress and buy top layers that can be changed.

I am confused about this because does that mean that I just choose the firmest mattress without regard to comfort because I am going to use a topper? How do I know if I am going to like the topper and is there a place to try those out, or do I just go on recommendations and order it online?

2. Where do I get a foam mattress? I went to a local highly rated mattress warehouse and the selection was all Simmons, Serta, and Therapedic, with one...

This has been such a long saga for you -- is there a happy ending now?

Well, I haven't been coming here and reading obsessively, so I guess the mattress situation can't be too bad now.... (Instead, I'm in the midst of a badly needed organizing/decluttering spree.) smiley

It's not great, actually, but even if I wake up a little sore, it doesn't last all day and I haven't been feeling crippled by the mattress, so that's an improvement. Also helps that I finally went to see my LMT, who does trigger point therapy, and got some serious knots loosened up (ow).

I've been migrating toward the middle of the mattress lately, instead of sticking to my side, so maybe that'll help break it in more evenly. I might still wind up taking out...

Here's the thing.. there is no bed of equal value to exchange for.. other than a tempupedic that felt exactly like my I Comfort.. too soft.. Mattress 1 directed me to the one I have because of support when there was another one 1000 cheaper that was much firmer.. but they said I needed the one I am on.. ya know make that commission..!!!  at my expense.. I had a defective Sealy Spring Free for 1 12 years and it bowed across the center.. thus they gave me 1600 credit and I had every intention of exchanging it for a new coil mattress.. however they said no because of my back issues.. and I fell for it and had to come up with another 1500 to get into this beast..  so now looking at Simmons Classic.. Hillsgrove, in another store.. the junk that they have in Mattress 1 is useless... I...

Well I found out first hand today why I will never shop at Sears again. We followed the warranty departments instructions and found a mattress that closely matched the comfort level of our original mattress we just had replaced a week ago under warranty. As I mentioned in our origianal message the replacement mattress was the same in brand and model only. The comfort level wasn't anywhere close to the same. We found a mattress we liked that was very similar to our old mattress. Only issue is it was a Simmons Beautyrest instead of a Sealy. The warranty department then informed me that I would need to pay the difference in price between what we paid in 2010 for our Sealy and the current price of the Simmons Beautyrest, even though the Simmons Beautyrest is less expensive than the current Sealy model we were delivered. As if that wasn't...

I read that pillowtops will leave impressions sooner than regular tight tops.  Is this true?

I called Sleepys and I basically found a comparable Sealy Posturepedic with more coils for $1,200...

My Sleepy’s story is like so many of the other customer complaints that I feel responsible to provide you with other details and recommendations in hope that future consumers can avoid what so many others (including myself) have experienced when purchasing a mattress at Sleepy’s.

First our story:

We purchased a Simmons NxG mattress set from Sleepy’s in 2008. The total purchase price was over $3000.  Yes, $3000 - sleep is important to everyone and a basic essential to human health.  We felt this was an investment in ourselves, our health and well-worth the expense.

Yes, we had the same experience with delivery and mattress removal fees not being clear in the sale process.  We paid without squabbling because frankly, the mattress purchase process in the Sleepy’s store was enough of a game that we just wanted...

Hello,  I am Anthony and am a retailer of Carpe Diem Beds, Tempur-Pedic, Hastens, Simmons Black, etc.. Of course I have vested interest in Carpe Diem, so I will give you fact and not my opinion.

It is very easy to assume a sleep set is overpriced when you hear it retails for tens of thousands of dollars, I at one point thought so myself. However lets brake down how a Carpe Diem Bed is made and compare it to any other sleep system.

We will start with other sleep systems. Take Tempur-Pedic and Sterns and Foster. Two very different mattresses, however they both utilize an idea of using a soft material to comfort the body and a harder material to support the body. Let’s think about that for a moment. I'm not a big guy at 5'8" and 170lbs....

Well sir I own a mattress store and truthfully most memory foam mattresses if they were laid side by side you could not tell the difference they are so close in quality and warranty . However there are vast  new improvements in all and the new cool gel are the best yet and  the cheapest companies are Therapedic and Corsicana we sell the King set at $1099 a set...   With Serta.. Simmons...Sealy...Tempurpedic  the name will cost double!

Good Luck.

You may want to look into the Simmons Comforpedic.  It is half the money and just as comfortable with the air-gel & memory foam.  My wife & I bought the loft and are very happy.
