Re: Dormia ? - jimsocal

I checked out their site.
Problem is, they don't really give you enough details to know what is really inside the mattress.
They never quite say there is ONLY latex and memory foam inside. So I suspect there IS some poly foam in there.
They mention that they use wool but I can't see how much wool.
They mention using a tri-zoned Dunlop latex layer but is it the core or is it just one of those $100 Dunlop tri-zone toppers I've seen on sale on some web site?
Maybe they just don't bother to tell us these things because they figure we don't need or want to know. OR maybe they are hiding the truth. Who knows?
All I know is, I would have to ask a lot of detailed questions before I would buy one.
I also don't like that they don't give prices.
My GUESS is that this is a mattress with poly foam...

I recall about 9 years ago when we bought our Sealys (BIG mistake!) that one store was trying to sell me a Spring Air that had "zoned" springs, I believe. Softer at the shoulder, firmer at the hips, something like that. I could be wrong, maybe it was the foam, but I'm pretty sure they showed me the springs.
That mattress my friend had that I liked so much was a Spring Air from 15 years ago. It's called a Majestic. But he had no info on the springs, only what was on the label. I guess the most important thing was on...

Hi, I had a helluva time finding out the info on Englander mattresses. Pretty screwed up company it seems to me. But all I care about is their springs so I'm willing to deal with them anyway. (But see my soon-to-come RANT re mattress salespeople in this forum!)

As someone who owns several omf mattresses, I'm not sure that I would do that. Check around your area and make sure that there isn't a small manufacturer near by. If you do go with them, go with the orthopedic extra firm. it has some pu foam but not a lot. I think the ultra firm is too hard for most people. You might as well just sleep on a board. I say the orthopedic, because it is the better springs....

Jim, it looks like you have it under control. Have you laid on the mattress at all? how much foam is in there? I wouldn't worry too much about the difference in guage if it the mattress feels good and there isn't too much foam in it. If you decide to do surgery on it, go will a small amount of foam (1-2") at first then build it up from there. I went with the legacy because it was the most comfortable. the orthopedic extra firm was good also. Keep us updated....

Hi Kimberly and Others, Thanks for the update. Maybe I'm not remembering but I thought you had said awhile back that your husband loved the Flobed (while you were the one who wasn't so sure)? Anyway, I was wondering what happened... did it just started feeling less comfortable to him or what (or am I not remembering correctly?) Here's an update from my experience. I kept my Flobed even though I can't say it's totally perfect... but then I don't think any bed set-up is (at least not for me). As I mentioned in a post awhile back, since obviously it wasn't possible to take what I felt was best (as per my needs) from several different companies, I picked the one I felt overall most confident about in terms of both product and customer service (and which allowed returns). And...

Has anyone heard of the brand Summerhill and Bishop? I guess it's a joint brand produced by Simmons and Ortho Mattress but I can't seem to find any literature on it.

Option 1 is a queen Summerhill and Bishop "Elgin" pillowtop that has 980 individually pocketed coils, 12.75 gauge double tempered, 2 1/2" high density (not sure on type or actual density) foam and 1" memory foam encasement, 10 year warranty.

Option 2 is a S & F "Maple Leaf" which I'm guessing equates to their Luxury Innerspring line, 825 coil count with 5" memory foam and 2.5" foam encasement which I am also unsure about in terms of specs, 10 year warranty. No gauge was given by the rep.

Figure a $300 increase for Option 2, both were comfortable for my primary backsleeping, sometimes side sleeping body position in the 15 minute nap test. Primary concern is durability,...

I have a Nexgel bed and it sleeps wonderful. I have had it now for about a month and I have my choice of beds to sleep on. I was skeptical that the bed could stack up against some of the other beds that I have slept on. don't get caught up in the hype over Intelligel and orthogel...they were invented by the same company. I don't think that a polymer will break down even with the harshest use in less than 20 years. I also use the Roll N Go seat cushion when I am at work....
