Glad the springs are helping.  There is just a different feel of support with them than with plain foam.  I was also thinking that people who pay big bucks for a product typically don't complain about it much, because in so many people's minds, you get more if you pay more.  But what you pay for something often has no relevance to how it will perform or last!!!  I believe in getting the most for the least possible, BUT won't accept crap.
In this economy it is so important to get value for your hard earned money, waste needs to be a thing of the past.   Spending thousands of dollars, multiple times, on beds that don't perform and actually cause chronic back pain is just unacceptable.  I met a nice woman who lived across from my parent' s old house when we were moving my mom...

Bedhater, I feel you pain.
Rather, I HAVE felt your pain. Now that I've done surgery on my mattress I am 90% better.

Granted, I am a big fan of mattress surgery, and I know you said you don't want any big hassle, you just want a simple solution.

Unfortunately I really think, after reading your posts again, that there is no simple solution.

The first bed was too soft. That sounds right because the beds they make now are almost always too soft.

So you bought the Plush Firm and now it's too firm.

I think you have to face reality, and that reality is that it is not going to be easy to find comfort with a herniated disc.

I have had 3 car accidents all affecting my back, neck and shoulders (and through nerve damage, also my arms). I have struggled for years with my mattress and tried about everything. That's...

FBM Foam & Latex 1 year update - LatencyMachine

My wife and I have been sleeping comfortably for over a year now on our FoamByMail/FoamDistributing custom foam bed (E King). From bottom to top I have 2x 1" HD36-HQ, 5" LUX-HQ, 2" Medium Latex, 1" Soft Latex, CuddleBed. I originally had the HD36 over the LUX, but as the bed wore in, we felt that the HD36 softened up too much, so we moved it to the very bottom. If I were doing this build again, I would omit the HD36 and just get another section (2") of LUX.

I'm 5'8 165# side, back and stomach sleeper, my wife is 5'7 125# side sleeper. All issues I had last year with tossing all night, waking in the morning and limping to the shower because I was all stiff, etc, have been gone since sleeping on this bed. An added bonus that I did not expect,...

Webbiscuit - Final configuration?  Don't have one yet.

My wife loves what I described above.  I hate it.  Since she's visiting family, I'm messing with the bed.  I have a 1/2" layer of Lux foam (ILD 50) with a 2.5" layer of HD-36 eggcrate (ILD-35 for the solid foam) on top of the original Lux and egg crate, replacing the 3" 5.5 lb memory foam.  But after two nights with this configuration I don't have a verdict; I loved the original for the first week.  The idea with the egg crate was, the two layers add up to 3", so I can cut the memory foam and this stuff in half, and have side by side layers for that part of the bed, then put the 4.5 lb memory foam on top so there's hopefully not that sharp of a transition between the two sides.  My side, her side.  Plus the...
Re: Flobeds is in my area, I have questions - KimberlyH

Randy,

When you are asking about Flobeds vs. Tempurpedic, what you are really asking is, latex mattress vs. memory foam mattress.

Although both are foam mattresses, they are made of different material and have quite a different feel to lie on.

A latex mattress is made of either natural rubber from a rubber tree, synthetic rubber, which is chemically identical, or a blended latex made up of both natural and synthetic rubber.

A Tempurpedic mattress is made of visco foam (memory foam).

They feel quite different.  In a Tempurpedic bed, the foam is heat responsive.  As your body warms up the foam, it will soften, and your body will "sink" into it somewhat and cradle it.  Some people liken it to lying on sand.  There is very little motion transfer between you and your partner.  People either love or hate Tempurpedics.  People who love them say they would never sleep on anything else again, and...

Here are a few suggestions.  You might be able to search in your area and find a dealer who carries Land and Sky latex mattresses.  These are Dunop processed latex mattresses.  Lady Americana manufactures a latex mattress called the Sweda you may be able to find locally.  I tried one of these and i think it's Talalay.  OMI manufactures a certified organic latex mattress using Talalay latex.  Or, if you have an Ikea near you, they have a latex mattress that will give you a good feel for how latex is to lie on.

I wouldn't particularly recommend any of these mattresses to buy, just to get a feel for latex. Another option is to walk into a mattress showroom and try a Sealy Spring Free mattress - they have a latex core topped with a bunch of cheap foam you don't want, so this would just be to get an...
Re: Dunlop vs. Talalay - shollis13

Talalay is a process and Dunlop is a process.  The difference in the 2 is the one step that Talalay does in freezing theirs to make it consistent.  Freezing the foam makes its cells stay in the area it is meant to be.  For instance.  If you take a snow globe and shake it, now with all the particals in the space evenly it is instantly frozen whih makes for a more consistent and better product.  As the particals settle and clump up in the bottom of the globe they are very inconsistent which is the Dunlop process.  If you look at a piece of the 2 side by side you can see the difference in the cell structure.  Usually the Dunlop is much more dense at the bottom of the piece and Talalay is evenly dispersed through out the piece.  Talalay is the GOLD STANDARD of foams.  It is...
Re: Dream Easy mattresses? - Katherine

Yes, I agree there is little information about Dream Easy for a consumer to make an intellegent purchase decision. As of today's date, the the Dream Easy website is still not developed and no information is available about the construction of their beds, warranty, etc. It seems Dream Easy is competitive to Dream Star. Both are Canadian companies. I purchased a top of line-$$$-Sealy Posterpedic, only for it to breakdown in less than 2 years. The warranty was not honoured because no visual indentation was obvious, even though we sunk inches into the centre. The Sealy mattress reduced in height by 4". Yes, 4 inches! The mattress edges collapsed. Our backs-in pain: We will never knowly purchase a Sealy product. I will be buying the Dreamstar Latex bed this week because an inquiry e-mail to their company was promptly replied to, they...
Is it worth it to try to augment an innerspring mattress that feels too firm to begin with? - lauren_09
Oct 13, 2009 5:25 AM
So, i recently purchased an older (second hand) sealy posturepedic "firm" mattress. I intentionally bought a second hand one because I am using it on a lofted (aka really high, I can stand under it) platform bed and wanted my mattress to not be too thick, so it wouldn't create a problem with ceiling clearance when i set up. This mattress i bought is in good condition. The only problem is that when i was testing it out, it felt ok, but now that i've gotten it home it feels.. well.. too firm. It has not been used often, and I can't feel the springs, so it's still in relatively good shape (besides apparently being too firm for me.)

I'm a side sleeper, and i've been having a lot of weird symptoms lately - numbness in my hands and feet (peripheral neuropathy) that sometimes lasts...
