Re: Has anyone bought the Westin Heavenly mattress or Simmons Dakar Pillowtop Classic? (its clone) - Kait

You can look at the tag on the mattress in the hotel to find out when it was manufactured. I always do!!! Oddly the two I've slept in that were lovely(one at the Brown Hotel and Spa in Denver, one at the Awahnee hotel in Yosemite Nat'l Park) were five years old! No, they don't seem to replace them that frequently!

Me and my husband have a spring air mattress that is 17 years old and we need a new one. I don't sleep well during the night and have so many aches and pains. The problem is that we have been looking for 3 weeks and are so confused. We like the Simmons Beauty Rest but heard bad things about it. We looked at Sealy and it was like eeee. We looked at Serta, the Orginial Mattress Factory. We can't make up our mind. Guess after spending a lot of money on one we want it to last and be comfortable. Can anyone steer us to what we should buy? Since we had the spring air should we look at that? We are so confused! HELP!!!
Welcome.
From your post I would suggest that you put your active mattress looking on hold for awhile and read through this...

We quit trying to learn about latex when we decided it wasn't for us.
Interesting that all Sealy "latex" mattresses only have something called "luxury latex foam" and so far I can't find a definition of what that means. I suspect it is a marketing label for fake latex. Looking online at latex mattress comparisons of the S-mattress companies only Simmons uses descriptions that seem to show that they use natrual latex in their mattresses.
Reading posts from forum members that are much more experienced with latex it looks like the way to go is avoid the big name mattress makers. You can find 6 inch natural latex cores starting at around $600 and if we were ever going to try latex we would buy a core and put a softer foam topper on top of it if we found it necessary but we both are comvinced that for our personal tastes...

More coils doesn't mean better. There are a lot of other things to consider such as the quality of the coils, the gauge, how many turns per inch, whether or not they're tempered, etc. Simmons is generally held in low regard around here for its coil mattresses, which contain non-tempered springs.

Re: ComforPedic - anyone tried it? - adrian973

I recently purchased a Simmons Comforpedic Original Mattress, after an exhaustive search for a new mattress. We tried traditional spring, latex, tempupedic, hybrids, and everything imbetween. The comforpedic is the only one that was firm enough for me yet soft enough for my partner. It also didn't seem to sleep as hot as the Tempurpedic, and cost considerably less. I've only had it for 2 weeks, so I can't comment on the durability, but my lower back hasn't felt this good in years....
Sterilized Contents? on Label - SimmonsBlack

I need some help... I recently purchased a bed from Mattress Discounters ... One, it was a Simmons Beautyrest Black Gabrelia. I've notice a couple of strange things.
1) The bed does not have an oval "Simmons Beautryrest Black" logo on the side. In the showroom, it did.. but, the one delivered did not.
2) The label with the percentage of material was different from the one I saw in the 2 showrooms. One had 70% of xyz.. and the one on my bed is 59%. of xyz.... I've seen both variants when going to different stores. But, all stores have the logo (see above)
3) The label notes that its all new contents.. but, I've seen multiple beds.. and in the middle, I see "content sterilized". It was denoted as a new bed. Again, at the showroom, it was not the case. I saw another bed, and it had the same thing....

Hi everyone!
I'm going to purchase my first mattress soon and have been doing research on Sealys, Simmons, Serta, memory foam, toppers, latex, have read articles online and in Consumer Reports, went to a mattress store today, and I had absolutely no idea there was so much to know and how many options there are! Hopefully with some research I can get a great mattress that will provide great sleep. I'm also thinking more about quality of sleep, initially I was planning on buying a cheap mattress but having done some research I think it makes more sense to get a quality one to improve my sleep.
I have a number of questions and I tried to do searches on the forum here but have not been totally successful in finding what I'm looking for.
1. How do you distinguish between coils and upholstery? When I go back to a mattress store...

I am going through the agony of finding the right bed for my wife and I. We just couldn't take our soft S&F any longer and purchased a Simmons world class
Firm Pillow top...Cape is the name I think...... It's sagging in less than a month and my wife is having issues with pressure points.....This bed is too hard for her and good for me except the nice whole I am in already....My question.
I went to the store a laid on a Tepurpedic for about a hour. Its the pillow top Celeberty......I like it. Seems to be supportive yet soft....My wife liked it as well, but........
She thinks we should buy and likes the newer softside waterbeds with the zipper tops to remove and replace top inserts with foam or latex......
Why don't more people buy these? It seems nice and for $2000 you can buy a dual core king bed with all...

My back hurts. I need advice. - mybackhurts
Apr 12, 2009 9:52 PM
Hi everyone, I'm new here. I think I need a new mattress. I have a CA King Simmons Beautyrest (I don't know the model), but it's a pillowtop and quite soft. I'm about 6'3" and 175 lbs, 30 years old. The mattress is about 4 years old. It sags in the middle. Every morning, the middle of my back hurts for a few minutes after waking up, which is crazy because I'm in very good shape and have never had back problems before. The pain goes away after a few minutes of getting out of bed. This is crazy. The mattress industry confuses the hell out of me.
But I think I need a new mattress. I'm currently sleeping on my guest room twin bed, even though my feet hang off the edge. That bed is fine, and it is pretty firm. This leads me to believe maybe I need something...
