Re: Select Comfort vs. Comfortaire - BobJ

I have a Comfortaire GS 900 queen size.  I'm not sure how it compares with the Opulence but I am very pleased with it.  I have had it about 13 months now.  I can tell you I have posted on this forum before. I was struggling to find a bed that was comforatable for me and had tried several kinds - including "normal" mattresses, the Flobed and I even had a Select Comfort a number of years ago (it was one of their lower end beds).  My Comfortaire has a latex convoluted topper - not the memory foam topper.  The air mattresses in it are not as deep as those in the Select Comfort - they are maybe 3" - 4" deep.  I think the depth of the mattress, the latex topper and the thick mattress cover have a lot to do with the comfort.  I often sit up in...
Poly foam types...Yankee Mattress - requin

Anyone buy a mattress set from Yankee Mattress Factory in MA?  What was your experience if so?

I was there the other day and spent a few hours (!) talking w/ the guy; there was no one else in the store. It's a small local business (they have a number of stores, but all in the western MA area I think??). Low overhead, etc.  They make about 10 different mattress sets, a few have latex and/or memory foam but most don't.  I want something w/out so this worked for me.  Then you get your usual selection of firmness, amount of plushness on top, etc.

The rep was very low-key, non pressure, not slick or any of that. We talked a lot about types of materials. He said they use 1.8 or 2.8 high quality foam (soft or firm depending on the bed).  Can anyone comment on...

  • Please help w/ natural latex mattress choice (sleeptek vs bella sera vs sleepez) - 4foxes

I'm looking to switch to a king size 100% natural latex mattress without any chemical additives, flame retardants, etc

I've been researching for weeks but it feels like the more I read the more confusing it gets! There aren't any retailers nearby where I would be able to try out a mattress so I'm going to have to make a decision and cross my fingers that its not a $3k mistake! We are ~175lb people who side/stomach sleep and dont generally like a super soft mattress. I need to keep the price around $2500 or less.

As of now I think I have narrowed the choices down to the following. Any help, reviews, comments, cheaper/better mattress suggestions - anything - that will help me feel confident in this decision would be very much appreciated!

Select Comfort vs. Comfortaire - ctd104
Feb 14, 2011 6:21 AM
My wife and I are about to spend a good deal of money on an air mattress and just want to get an idea of anyone's experience with Select Comfort or Comfortaire?

I have been searching the Internet for days looking for comparisons and can not find any good ones.  Can anyone give me some insight on the differences between the two companies and which one may be a good value.

We are looking at the Select Comfort Innovation Series Limited Edition and the Comfortaire Opulence.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks!...

After extensive Internet research (including this forum), we ordered this from SleepEz:

Select Sleep Cal-King 13,000 100% Natural Talalay Latex Mattress
my side:Soft/Medium/Firm/Firm
husbands side:Medium/Firm/XFirm/Xfirm

Some days we woke up fine, other days my lower back was throbbing in pain and husband felt "achy all over" (he said he never felt like this on any other mattress and he travels alot). I tried his side and it seemed way too firm for me. We also tried different layer combos from the above. I was confused on keeping it or not because some days we felt fine, but the 90days was running out and I got nervous, so we returned it.

I keep thinking maybe we should have kept it and tried other layer combos, but I honestly don't have a lot of time/patience for that and...

We really liked the guy at Metro Mattress off of Central Ave. in Albany/Schenectady. He dropped the prices a ton if you ask what the best he can do is (we talked to Ken) and they also price match or beat competitors. We also liked the selection at Capital Mattress and Waterbed. Lots to look at, but they weren't as flexible on their prices. If you find a mattress you like somewhere, go other places to check them out.

The Olender place we went to had a few problems:

Dirty - its located downtown schenectady, and was not that clean inside or out. Dirt on the floor, beds, and junk inside.

Small selection - only sold englander beds, and insulted "the other guys" who sold other beds.

Rude staff - the 2 people that were in there (and we...

Need help ... rebuild current mattress - trumpolt

Hello everyone, I guess i will start off with some information about myself.

I am 29 6'5' and 240lbs. I sleep on my back most of the nite, but i sometimes do toss around and end up waking up on my side.

I currently own a Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme, its one year old and worn out and unusable.

I have a very physically demanding job and with my current mattress i simply do not get any restful sleep anymore and it is seriously killing me.

So my plan now is to somehow work in stages to build myself a new custom mattress and in the process use parts from the old one since I really don't have the money to buy a whole new setup at the moment.
